DnD: Drow Dragons, Shadow Dragons, Deep Dragons and the Jaezred Chaulssin

What happens when you cross a drow with a dragon? You get one of the most criminally overlooked corners of Forgotten Realms lore — and one of the wildest stories in the entire Underdark. This week on [Show Name], Sean and Jess dive deep into the Drow-Dragon: a creature born from centuries of slavery, shadow magic, and a rebellion so brutal it reshaped drow society forever. We start with the basics — what is a Deep Dragon, why do they hate the drow they pretend to ally with, and how did the term "drow-dragon" first appear in Dragon Magazine #206 back in 1994? Then we crack open Eric L. Boyd's 2007 free web enhancement City of Wyrmshadows (yes, it's still out there, and yes, it's a goldmine) to tell the full story of Chaulssin, the City of Wyrmshadows — a drow city conquered by Clan Jaezred shadow dragons in 221 DR and held in chains for over 800 years. From there it gets unhinged: the rise of the zekylyn half-dragons, the slave rebellion of 634 DR, the malaugrym shapeshifter infiltration, the founding of House Jaezred, and the eventual creation of the Jaezred Chaulssin — a secret patriarchal assassins' guild dedicated to tearing down Lolth's matriarchy one city at a time. We cover the destruction of Ched Nasad, the Silence of Lolth, and the shadow dragon Shimmergloom's conquest of Mithral Hall (yes, that Mithral Hall — Bruenor Battlehammer's home). In this episode: What is a Deep Dragon? Lore, abilities, and shapeshifting powers The two types of Drow-Dragon: Deep Lineage vs. Shadow Lineage The fall of Chaulssin and the rise of the zekylyn The Jaezred Chaulssin: D&D's most patient assassins' guild Shimmergloom and the fall of Mithral Hall How to use drow-dragons in your 5e campaign Whether you're a Dungeon Master hunting for your next BBEG, a Drizzt Do'Urden fan curious about the lore behind Streams of Silver, or just here for cursed Underdark politics, this one's for you. DnD Gods: LOLTH THE SPIDER QUEEN

She is chaos incarnate. She is the web that holds an entire civilization in its grip. She is the reason the Underdark trembles — and she wants it that way. In this episode of Roll for Lore, Sean and Jessica descend into the Demonweb Pits to explore one of the most iconic, terrifying, and endlessly fascinating figures in all of Dungeons & Dragons: Lolth, the Spider Queen. Before she was the Demon Queen of Spiders, she was Araushnee — a goddess of the Seldarine, consort to Corellon Larethian himself, and patron of fate and artisans among the elven pantheon. So how does a goddess of such standing end up ruling the 66th layer of the Abyss, commanding an army of drow, driders, and demons, and becoming the single most destabilizing force in Faerûn's history? That fall — and everything that came after — is the story of one of D&D's greatest villains. We trace Lolth's origins from her betrayal of Corellon during the Crown Wars, through her banishment to the Abyss and her transformation into the Spider Queen, all the way to her role in shaping the brutal matriarchal society of the drow and her apotheosis into a greater goddess during the War of the Spider Queen. We also dig into her complicated divine family — her daughter Eilistraee, who opposes everything she stands for, and her son Vhaeraun, the Masked Lord — and explore the Dark Seldarine, the fractious drow pantheon she rules through fear and manipulation. Whether you're a Dungeon Master building a drow-themed campaign, a player whose character has a history in Menzoberranzan, or just a lore lover who wants to understand the goddess behind one of D&D's most iconic villains, this episode pulls back the web and shows you what's underneath. Creator Races Featuring Sergio

Before the elves, before the dwarves, before the age of humanity — there was the Days of Thunder. In this episode of Roll for Lore, hosts Sean and Jessica are joined by special guest Sergio from the Dungeons & Dragons Lorecast to dive deep into one of the most ancient and overlooked chapters in Forgotten Realms lore: the Creator Races of Faerûn. Long before any adventurer set foot in a tavern, five primordial civilizations ruled the supercontinent of Merrouroboros — the Sarrukh, the Batrachi, the Aearee, the Fey, and the ancestors of humanity. These were the Iquar-Tel'Quessir, the Creator Races, and the world of Toril would never have looked the way it does without them. From the serpentine empires of the Sarrukh — the creators of yuan-ti, nagas, and lizardfolk — to the amphibious Batrachi who accidentally unleashed ancient primordials and reshaped the planet, to the avian Aearee who gave rise to the aarakocra and the kenku, this episode unpacks the mythic prehistory of the Forgotten Realms. Whether you're a Dungeon Master looking to build ancient ruins, secret cults, or long-lost civilizations into your campaign, or a lore fan who wants to understand what shaped Faerûn from the very beginning, this is the episode for you.
