    For Only a Penny

Colokum Craft Coffee Boomer Bunker Dischord Become a Bunker Dweller 19 For Only a Penny NATIONAL DAY: National Bacon Lovers Day — Celebrate crispy, savory bacon in all its forms. BIRTHDAY: Robert Plant (born 1948) — Lead singer of Led Zeppelin. THIS DAY IN HISTORY: 1920 — The American Professional Football Association (later the NFL) was formed. ----- FOR ONLY A PENNY (ABC10) Columbia House, the mail-order music and movie club that became a pop-culture fixture with penny-priced introductory deals, is finally shutting down after 71 years. Founded in 1955, the club rode vinyl, 8-tracks, cassettes, CDs and later DVDs, reaching about 16 million members at its mid-1990s peak. New media orders end September 15, 2026, closing a nostalgic chapter for generations who remember those tiny album stickers and too-good-to-be-true offers. ----- I'M TIRED (New York Post) California regulators unanimously approved new replacement-tire efficiency rules aimed at reducing rolling resistance and fuel or electricity use. Phase 1 begins in 2029 with a 9.1 N/kN maximum rolling-resistance standard; Phase 2 tightens it to 7.2 N/kN in 2033. The rules could eliminate a significant share of tires now sold in California, fueling concerns about price, choice, traction and cross-border tire shopping. ----- YOU'RE FLOCKING WRONG! (Reason) Flock Safety says more than 120,000 automated license-plate cameras operate across 49 states and process more than 20 billion vehicle reads each month. Reason highlights wrongful stops, bad matches, data sharing and officers abusing searches to track former partners. The controversy raises the central question: can a nationwide vehicle-tracking network be trusted with police access, or are stronger warrants, audits and limits—or fewer cameras—the answer? ----- SHOW CREDITS: Thank you to my co-host, Ken Madden of MaddK Studio Jason Radosevich Horrible Designs Cast: Kate the Duchess of NJ and John Jamingo of theBoomer Bunker Aaron of I had to Say it Boomer Bob of the Boomer Bob Show Supporters: Steve McShane of the Razor Wire News Josh Roberts from New Hampshire and you can always leave a comment by email: bruce@weatherdsoul.com

BIRTHDAY: Gene Roddenberry (born 1921) — Creator of Star Trek. THIS DAY IN HISTORY: 2004 — Google went public with its initial public offering (IPO). - $85 – Now $350 ----- I'M BIOLOGICALLY A THIEF (NEW YORK POST) New York Assemblywoman Emily Gallagher drew backlash after saying people stealing basics such as toothpaste or soap may be committing “crimes of poverty” tied to biological need. Gallagher favors treatment, food assistance and housing support over arrests and jail; critics argue excusing theft shifts costs to paying customers and can drive retailers out of communities. ----- ANOTHER HOOT OF A LOOT (NEW YORK POST) A family-owned Bellflower, California store was ransacked by dozens during a street takeover, leaving nearly $30,000 in damage and stolen merchandise, according to the New York Post. The mob attack turned an illegal driving spectacle into a direct hit on a small business and renewed concerns over street takeovers spilling into looting and property crime. ----- TRUMP AND THE KOREA'S (GROUND NEWS) President Trump ordered the Pentagon to substantially reduce long-planned U.S.-South Korea military exercises. He cited their cost, his relationship with Kim Jong Un and the hostile signal the drills send North Korea. Trump also linked the move to Seoul declining a U.S. request connected to denuclearizing Iran; South Korea says it is monitoring the shift.

(Ground News) An American tourist from Kansas died after being struck by lightning while hiking Mount Etna in Sicily. Reports say he entered an area closed because of ongoing volcanic activity and was caught in a thunderstorm. Rescuers reached him by helicopter, but he later died. On an erupting volcano, lightning turned out to be the immediate danger. ------ I DID IT FOR THE NOOKIE… (New York Post) Newly declassified FBI records, as reported by the New York Post, say Eric Swalwell acknowledged in 2015 that he had a sexual relationship with Christine Fang, a suspected Chinese intelligence operative. Earlier reporting had established Fang cultivated political contacts and helped Swalwell's network, but had not established a sexual relationship with him. ------ CENK SINKS DAUGHTERS (Not the Bee) Cenk Uygur said he would rather see his daughters finish behind a transgender athlete than support policies he believes could traumatize transgender kids. He framed the issue as compassion versus the relatively small number of disputed cases; critics argue the real question is fairness and protected opportunities in girls' sports. She draws a handgun during the confrontation. Police are investigating the theft, while legal experts warn that an armed bystander can face serious legal consequences when property theft alone does not present an immediate deadly threat. SEX SELLS DEM MESSAGE (Fox News) California congressional candidate Marni von Wilpert held a fundraiser at San Diego’s Gossip Grill, an LGBTQ nightclub known for sexually suggestive event names and menu branding. Republicans attacked the venue choice and her LGBTQ policy agenda. Wilpert lists LGBTQ rights and passage of the Equality Act among her campaign priorities and has defended LGBTQ-themed library materials. ------ ID REQUIRED! HOW DARE YOU!!! (Not the Bee) Kamala Harris criticized President Trump’s push for the SAVE America Act, saying it would create voting obstacles and “require proof of who you are to vote.” Not the Bee mocked the remark as an accidental sales pitch for the proposal. The political dispute is over proposed federal proof-of-citizenship requirements for voter registration, not whether noncitizen voting in federal elections is already illegal. ------ SHOW CREDITS: Thank you to my co-host, Ken Madden of MaddK Studio Jason Radosevich Horrible Designs Cast: Kate the Duchess of NJ and John Jamingo of theBoomer Bunker Aaron of I had to Say it Boomer Bob of the Boomer Bob Show Supporters: Steve McShane of the Razor Wire News Josh Roberts from New Hampshire and you can always leave a comment by email: bruce@weatherdsoul.com

Police say an armed customer inside opened fire, killing Ofa'tangikivaha Angilau. The armed citizen remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Riverton officials called incidents like this rare while noting situations like this are why some people choose to carry concealed firearms. ------ Another Undocumented Tragedy (New York Post) Marcos Iriarte-Valdez is charged with murdering 68-year-old Todd Stewart during an alleged Martinez, California home burglary. Court records show Iriarte-Valdez was already facing felony burglary charges and had been released again on August 5 after an alleged home-detention violation. Stewart was killed August 6. THIS DAY IN HISTORY: 1952 — Big Mama Thornton recorded the original version of “Hound Dog” (later made famous by Elvis Presley). ------ DJ Diss— New York Post After nearly four decades behind the microphone, a veteran San Francisco radio personality left the building with the verbal equivalent of tossing the studio keys through the window. Following his departure from Cumulus Media, his farewell post took direct aim at corporate radio and the people running it. Apparently the final segment wasn't subject to management approval. ------ ICE Ambush— New York Post Two federal workers were hospitalized after an anti-ICE demonstration outside the Metropolitan Detention Center in downtown Los Angeles turned violent. Authorities said a crowd estimated at 40 to 50 people surrounded and attacked the workers Sunday. Video captured portions of the confrontation as tensions surrounding federal immigration enforcement continue boiling over in LA. ------ Decoy Donnie— Not the Bee A reported Iranian assassination threat led to some presidential-grade misdirection in Turkey. Trump publicly boarded the legacy Air Force One, then secretly exited through the opposite side and was transported by catering truck to a smaller C-32A. The 747 departed with journalists and staff aboard while Trump quietly flew separately to Britain. Video from Sunday shows a large masked crowd smashing windows and pouring into the store before fleeing with merchandise. Forget baseball, hot dogs and apple pie—apparently the new weekend activity is grabbing an alternator and running. ------ SHOW ME THE MONEY (Fox News) Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed says Medicare for All would change how Americans pay for healthcare: instead of insurance premiums, people could pay “a little bit more” in taxes. When pressed about people earning under $1 million, he didn't directly say no, arguing higher taxes would replace private insurance payments while providing healthcare without job-dependent coverage. ------ BARE BAIT (Fox19) Missouri prosecutors say a man was injected with drugs, cut with a knife and shot with an airsoft or BB gun during what the victim described as a bizarre “sex game.” He says his alleged attacker then made him run from a hunting blind and shot toward him as he fled. ARE YOU SURE? — The Insurance Gap

Colokum Craft Coffee Use the Promo Code [WSMG15] For 15% of any purchase through July 2026 SPECIAL 1776 LIMITED EDITION ROAST: $17.76 per lb Boomer Bunker Dischord Become a Bunker Dweller 2 ARE YOU SURE? — The Insurance Gap NATIONAL DAY: National Waterpark Day — Perfect timing for summer fun at a water park. BIRTHDAY: Dana White (born 1969) — President of the UFC THIS DAY IN HISTORY: 1868 — The 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution was adopted, granting citizenship and equal protection under the law. ------ The Insurance Gap You have homeowners insurance. You have renters insurance. You pay the premium every month. But here's the question nobody wants to ask until something goes horribly wrong: Are you sure you're actually protected? Millions of American homeowners have no homeowners insurance at all. Among those who do, one in five told the Federal Reserve they would prefer more coverage but couldn't afford it. Renters aren't necessarily doing any better. An estimated 45% of renter households don't carry renters insurance—and having a policy doesn't necessarily mean you've purchased enough coverage to replace everything you own. Today on Road Rage 101, we're looking at The Insurance Gap: How many Americans are uninsured? How many believe they're protected but may not have enough coverage? What does "underinsured" actually mean? And what happens when you discover after the disaster that the policy you've been paying for doesn't cover what you thought it did? ARE YOU SURE? Because having an insurance policy and being properly insured aren't necessarily the same thing.

BIRTHDAY: Triple H (Paul Levesque, born 1969) — WWE executive and Hall of Fame wrestler. THIS DAY IN HISTORY: 1940 — Bugs Bunny made his official debut in the cartoon A Wild Hare. ------ GRAND THEFT BEARCAT Grand Theft Auto apparently wasn't challenging enough. A New Jersey man allegedly stole an armored SWAT BearCat and took the massive tactical vehicle for an early-morning joyride. Forget stealing a Kia. This guy allegedly looked at a four-ton armored police vehicle and thought: "Yeah... I'll take that one." We'll find out how someone allegedly steals a BearCat, how far he got, and how this bizarre joyride finally ended. ------ FAUCI'S 15 Everybody gets their 15 minutes of fame. Apparently, Dr. Anthony Fauci was keeping notes. Newly released COVID-era diaries provide an unusually personal look at Fauci's life during the pandemic, including his observations about his exploding celebrity, media attention and even an invitation to appear on Dancing with the Stars. The journals were released by Sen. Rand Paul as part of an ongoing Senate oversight investigation. Was Fauci simply documenting the surreal experience of becoming one of America's most recognizable people—or did the spotlight become part of the story? ------ SHANAHAN'S HORROR CRASH Newly obtained emergency dispatch audio is shedding more light on the frightening car crash involving San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan. The recordings reportedly capture first responders dealing with the immediate aftermath of the collision, including a report that Shanahan was bleeding from the head. We'll look at what the newly released audio tells us about the crash and Shanahan's condition following the accident.
