Does Progression Always Mean Making Pilates Harder?
Send us Fan Mail What Does Progression Actually Mean in Pilates? We talk about progression constantly in Pilates. We progress an exercise, progress a client, add a spring, change the leverage, increase the challenge or move someone into a more advanced class. But are we always talking about the same thing? In this solo episode of The Pilates Exchange, Hannah separates two ideas that often get mixed together: progressive overload as a principle of exercise science and progression as part of becoming a more experienced, capable mover. What does progressive overload actually require? How can we create it on the Mat, Reformer and other Pilates equipment? And does making an exercise more complicated necessarily mean we've progressed anything? The conversation also looks beyond physical intensity. Greater precision, control, understanding and the ability to make good choices for your own body can all tell us something about how a client is developing. Because perhaps the question we should be asking isn't always, "How can I make this harder?" It's "What am I actually trying to develop?" At Performance Fit Pilates in Nürnberg, progression is part of how we approach both group classes and personal training. Our teaching combines Pilates with current exercise science to help clients build strength, movement skills, confidence and greater independence over time. 🤝 Season Sponsor OfferingTree is an all-in-one business management platform built for boutique Pilates and fitness studios.
