Off The Console

The €220 Million Lawsuit That Could Change Steam Forever

Summer games showcase season just completely broke the gaming industry. In this episode, we tackle the massive bombshells from the Xbox, PC, and Nintendo showcases—including the return of Xbox console exclusivity, massive tech shakeups, and major legal drama. First up: Valve is officially discontinuing physical Steam Gift Cards, blaming scammers. But is that the actual, whole story? Plus, leaked Canadian FCC documents suggest a brand new Steam Machine or “Steam Frame” might be launching within weeks, and content creators are already getting their hands on them. Over in the courtroom, Nintendo completely failed to block Palworld—and it reportedly cost them a staggering $40 Million in legal fees just to walk away with a measly $30k payout. Meanwhile, Xbox just put on an incredible showcase featuring Gears of War: E-Day and Doom: The Dark Ages, but a dark cloud looms overhead as massive layoffs under new CEO Asha Sharma are reportedly imminent. We also break down the “RAMpocalypse” forcing laptop manufacturers to downgrade your memory, Google’s terrifying new AI music-training loophole, and our favorite highlights from the PC Gaming Show and Nintendo Direct (including Vanillaware finally coming to PC!).
