Ghost Periods: Can You Still Feel Like You’re Getting a Period After Menopause?

Send us Fan Mail You haven’t had a period in years. Then suddenly, your body does something that feels strangely familiar. Cramping. Bloating. Breast tenderness. Mood changes. Maybe even that unmistakable sense that your period is about to start. But you’re postmenopausal. So… what is going on? In this episode, I’m talking about something women often call a “ghost period” — a phrase that sounds almost too perfect for the experience, even though it isn’t a formal medical diagnosis. I’ll share what happened to me, what we actually know about hormonal symptoms after menopause, what researchers have and haven’t established, and why it matters to separate a relatable experience from a scientifically proven phenomenon. Because sometimes the most interesting health questions begin with, “Has this ever happened to you?” And this one may leave you wondering how much we still have to learn about the postmenopausal body. 🎧 Listen to Ghost Periods: Can You Still Feel Like You’re Getting a Period After Menopause? wherever you get your podcasts. Cannabis for Sleep: Does It Really Work?

Send us Fan Mail THC gummies. CBD oils. Cannabis sleep products. They're everywhere, and the promises sound irresistible: fall asleep faster, stay asleep longer, and finally wake up feeling rested. But here's a question nobody seems to be asking: Does feeling sleepy actually mean you're getting better sleep? A newly published scientific review examined cannabis as a treatment for insomnia, and the findings may surprise you. In this episode of My Sexy Menopause Body, I'm taking a closer look at what the research really tells us, and why the answer to better sleep may have less to do with what you're taking and more to do with what's keeping you awake. Are you struggling to fall asleep? Waking up at 3 a.m.? Opening your eyes long before the alarm? Or sleeping all night and still feeling exhausted? Those aren't necessarily the same sleep problem. And they don't always have the same solution. We'll explore the difference between sedation and restorative sleep, what scientists actually know about cannabis, and how to identify the sleep problem you may have been trying to solve all along. Because before you reach for another sleep remedy, there's one question worth asking: What if you've been treating the symptom without understanding the cause? If you're tired of being tired, this conversation could change the way you think about sleep. Thank you for listening to this episode of My Sexy Menopause Body! Is This Going to Happen to Me Too?

Send us Fan Mail Have you ever watched your mom or dad struggle and quietly wondered, “Is that going to be me?” Maybe it’s the diabetes that runs through your family. Your father’s heart attack. Your mother’s memory slipping, or the way she’s started shuffling when she walks. And somewhere between worrying about them, you start worrying about you. In this deeply personal episode, Kim shares the moment she noticed a change in her own mother’s gait, caught herself on video, and had to decide whether she was looking at her future or at an opportunity. What she discovered is the difference that changes everything: your family history is information, not a prediction. Drawing on research from the Diabetes Prevention Program, the American Heart Association, the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, and the 2024 Lancet Commission on dementia, Kim walks you through what you can and can’t influence when it comes to the conditions that scare us most. In this episode, you’ll learn: Why your family history should be used as a flashlight, not a fortune teller How lifestyle changes reduced type 2 diabetes risk by 71% in adults over 60, and why this isn’t just about weight The eight measures of heart health you can actually track and influence What the research says about fall prevention, bone density screening, and dementia risk Why you can inherit a risk without inheriting your family’s “script” Kim’s simple four-step process for responding to family health history without fear How to keep prevention from becoming a full-time job (and why 11:30 p.m. Googling isn’t a strategy) Permission to stop studying your aging parent and simply be their daughter If you’re caring for an aging parent, grieving one, or quietly carrying the fear that their story is waiting for you, this episode is for you. Your challenge after listening: Pick the one family health issue that worries you most. Then ask: What part of this can I influence today? Can 15 Weeks Really Build Muscle After Menopause?

Send us Fan Mail What if some of the strength loss you’ve accepted as “just getting older” isn’t quite that simple? In this short episode, I’m looking at a 2026 study that followed postmenopausal women through 15 weeks of resistance training and measured what actually changed inside their muscles. The results were encouraging—but not in the oversimplified, “strength training fixes everything” kind of way. I’ll walk you through who was studied, what improved, what didn’t, and why that distinction matters if you’re trying to make smart decisions about your body after menopause. More importantly, I want you to leave with a better question than, “Am I too old to change?” Because sometimes the real question is: Have I given my body a reason to adapt? If you’ve ever quietly assumed that weakness, muscle loss, or physical decline is simply inevitable, this 5-minute Evidence Check may change the way you think about what’s still possible. Listen now—and find out what the study actually found. Thank you for listening to this episode of My Sexy Menopause Body! Do You Really Want to Live to 100?

Send us Fan Mail What would have to be true for you to actually want to live to 100? In this episode of My Sexy Menopause Body, I’m looking beyond lifespan and asking what makes a long life worth living in the first place. Because the goal isn’t simply more birthdays. It’s more years in which you can still participate in your own life. To move through the world on your own terms. To think clearly. To make decisions. To stay connected to people you love. To laugh, learn, travel, cook, read, contribute, and still wake up curious about what the day might hold. We’ll talk about the growing obsession with longevity, the difference between lifespan and healthspan, and why strength, independence, relationships, purpose, and curiosity may deserve just as much attention as your biological age or the latest longevity metric. This episode might change the way you think about aging well. Instead of asking, “How long can I live?” Maybe the better question is: “What kind of life am I trying to extend?” Thank you for listening to this episode of My Sexy Menopause Body! The Train of Life

Send us Fan Mail Some people ride with us for decades. Some are only beside us for a few stops. Some leave before we are ready. And every once in a while, someone gets on the train who changes the entire journey. In this episode, I’m talking about one of the most beautiful metaphors I’ve ever heard for life: the idea that we are all passengers on a train, moving through different stations, sharing the ride with people we love, lose, remember, and sometimes haven’t even met yet. But here’s the part I keep thinking about: we can spend so much time looking at the empty seats—the people who left, the relationships that changed, the chapters that ended—that we forget to notice who is sitting beside us right now. This episode is about love, friendship, family, loss, change, and the people who shape our lives simply by sharing part of the journey with us. It’s also a reminder that a relationship doesn’t have to last forever to have mattered deeply. Maybe the question isn’t, “Who stayed?” Maybe it’s, “Did I appreciate them while they were here?” And perhaps most importantly, there are still stations ahead. There are conversations you haven’t had, people you haven’t met, places you haven’t seen, and moments that haven’t happened yet. So pull up a seat. This is one of those episodes that might make you think differently about the people you love—and about the ride you’re on right now. Thank you for listening to this episode of My Sexy Menopause Body! If today’s conversation inspired you, resonated with you, or made you think, I’d love to hear from you. Menopause Is Over. Now What?

Send us Fan Mail Post-menopause can be one of the longest stages of your adult life, yet it’s often treated like an afterthought. We spend years talking about getting through perimenopause and menopause, but what happens when menopause is actually over? In this episode of My Sexy Menopause Body, I’m talking about what it means to live on the other side of menopause and why my priorities have changed. This isn’t about fearing aging or trying to get your younger body back. It’s about understanding what your body needs now so you can keep doing the things you love for decades to come. We’ll talk about protecting muscle and bone, heart and brain health, changes in body composition, sleep, lingering menopause symptoms, exercise, hormone therapy—and why taking care of yourself now is about so much more than living longer. For me, the biggest shift has been this: I don’t want health to become my life. I want my health to help me live my life. I’m proud to have made it to post-menopause. My body has changed. My priorities have changed. And I’m not interested in spending the next several decades mourning what used to be. Menopause is over. So now what? Now we live. THE BATTER’S BOX - When You Realize You’re Next in the Lineup

Send us Fan Mail What happens when you suddenly realize there aren’t as many people ahead of you anymore? Parents, grandparents, older relatives, mentors, friends, the people who once seemed to form a whole generation in front of us begin to disappear. And somewhere along the way, we become the ones younger people look to for the stories, the traditions, the perspective…and the example. In this deeply personal episode of My Sexy Menopause Body, I explore that strange shift in the lineup of life—not from a place of fear, but from a place of clarity. What do we want to remember? What deserves to be passed on? And are the things we say matter most actually visible in the way we’re living now? This isn’t an episode about racing against the clock. It’s about understanding where you are, recognizing what you’ve inherited, and deciding what you want to carry forward. Because one day you realize: you’re not waiting for your turn anymore. You’re in it. Thank you for listening to this episode of My Sexy Menopause Body! If today’s conversation inspired you, resonated with you, or made you think, I’d love to hear from you. Are You Tired- Or Is Your Life Boring To You?

Send us Fan Mail Are you actually tired—or has life become a little too predictable? In this episode of My Sexy Menopause Body, I’m talking about the kind of “tired” that isn’t always about sleep. Sometimes what we’re missing is anticipation, novelty, curiosity, connection, or simply something on the calendar that makes us say, “I can’t wait.” We’ll talk about why adults stop doing things they’re bad at, why fun doesn’t have to be productive, why first-time experiences wake us up, how friendships and projects can bring more energy into ordinary weeks, and why your calendar needs something that belongs to you—not just work, caregiving, errands, and responsibilities. I’ll also give you my Sunday Night Test and five simple takeaways you can actually use this week. And I’ll ask you one of my favorite questions: When was the last time you did something for the first time? Because we spend so much time trying to add years to our lives. Maybe it’s time to pay more attention to what we’re putting into those years. Your choices add up. Your next one still matters. Thank you for listening to this episode of My Sexy Menopause Body! Why Not At My Age? Do Dreams Expire?

Send us Fan Mail Remember when people used to ask, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” At some point, they stop asking. We build careers, raise families, take care of people, pay the bills—and eventually the question becomes, “When are you going to retire?” But what happened to everything in between? In this episode of My Sexy Menopause Body, I’m asking you to go back to the dreams you had when you were younger—not because you need to literally become the firefighter, actress, teacher, veterinarian, artist, writer, or explorer you once imagined, but because there was probably something underneath that dream that mattered to you. Adventure. Creativity. Helping people. Learning. Performing. Teaching. Travel. Animals. Leadership. Discovery. Is that part of you still getting a place in your life? I also share why I went back to school later in life, earned an advanced degree, and what I said when people asked me, “Why would you do that at your age?” My answer: Why not at my age? Maybe you want to go back to college. Take the art class. Learn another language. Write the book. Join the choir. Volunteer. Travel somewhere new. Teach what you know. Become a beginner again. It doesn’t have to become a career, a business, or anything impressive. Some things are worth doing simply because they make your life richer. So I want you to ask yourself: What did I once want to be? What was it about that dream that I loved? And what could that look like in my life now? We spend so much time thinking about how to live longer and stay healthier. Maybe we should spend a little more time deciding what we want to do with the life we’re working so hard to protect. Your choices add up. Your next one still matters. And if you catch yourself asking, “Why would I do this now?” Try a different question: Why not now? I Don't Need You To Complete Me

Send us Fan Mail You don't need a partner to feel complete and the numbers back that up. In this episode, we dig into the real data behind single women's financial independence, including record numbers of women over 50 who own their own homes, often while earning less than men and doing it anyway. We also talk honestly about dating apps: using one doesn't mean you're hunting for a husband, and nearly half of daters over 50 say they're there for casual dating, not marriage. Plus, a personal story about learning to enjoy dinner alone, and the psychology behind why that discomfort fades. If you've ever needed proof that staying single is strength, not settling, this one's for you. Thank you for listening to this episode of My Sexy Menopause Body! Why Men Keep Scrolling

Send us Fan Mail What if the reason a man keeps scrolling has nothing to do with your age, your body, or whether you look young enough? It may be the photo you thought looked sophisticated. The sentence you thought sounded independent. Or the list of standards that may be telling him more about your past than it tells him about who you are now. In this episode of My Sexy Menopause Body, my husband is back—and I am asking him to tell us the truth about women’s dating profiles. What makes a man stop? What makes him curious? What makes him think, “I want to meet her”? And what makes him quietly move on, even when the woman is beautiful? We talk about photos, filters, bios, negativity, mixed messages, authenticity, and the small profile mistakes women may not even realize they are making. This is not about changing yourself to appeal to every man online. It is about making sure your profile actually reflects the warm, interesting, real woman someone would be lucky to meet. Why Dating Feels Harder Than It Did 30 Years Ago

Send us Fan Mail Remember when dating meant waiting by the phone? When people met through friends, church, work, or family? When a guy liked you, he called? Today, dating can feel like an entirely different world. Texting. Ghosting. Breadcrumbing. Situationships. Dating apps. Mixed signals. And if you've ever found yourself thinking, "Why does dating feel so much harder now?" you're not imagining it. In this episode of My Sexy Menopause Body, Kim Nicholson explores why modern dating feels so different from the dating many of us remember decades ago. You'll discover why the rules changed, why so many women feel confused and discouraged, and why the problem isn't your age—it's the landscape. More importantly, you'll learn about the unexpected advantages you have today that you didn't have when you were younger. In this episode you'll discover: • Why modern dating often creates more access but less connection • How ghosting, texting, and dating apps have changed the dating experience • Why a "grown woman's brain" may be your greatest dating advantage • The difference between chemistry and character • Why peace may be more important than excitement at this stage of life • Reflective exercises to help you navigate dating with greater confidence and clarity If you've ever wondered whether dating has become more complicated, more exhausting, or simply harder than it used to be, this episode is for you. Because dating may have changed. But your ability to connect, love, and build meaningful relationships has not. And that might be the most important thing to remember. Why You Don’t Want Sex at Night

Send us Fan Mail Foreplay Starts at 8:07 A.M. — Why You Don’t Want Sex at Night If you don’t want sex at night, it may not be menopause. It may not be hormones. It may not even be libido. It may be that you’ve been running in executive mode since 8:07 a.m. In this episode of My Sexy Menopause Body, Kim Nicholson challenges the most common narrative around midlife desire and exposes the real culprit most women never consider: mental overload and physical depletion. When your brain has been planning, managing, solving, anticipating, and holding everything together all day, your body doesn’t magically switch into sensual mode at 9:42 p.m. That’s not dysfunction. That’s bandwidth. Inside this episode: • The science behind stress and suppressed sexual desire • How cognitive labor quietly drains libido • Why “low desire” is often misdiagnosed exhaustion • The truth about responsive desire in midlife • What to shift during the day if you want a different night If you’ve been wondering what happened to your desire, this conversation may change how you see your entire day. Foreplay doesn’t start in the bedroom. It starts in how much you’re carrying. Listen now. Thank you for listening to this episode of My Sexy Menopause Body! If today’s conversation inspired you, resonated with you, or made you think, I’d love to hear from you.
