Ivanka Trump Was Born To Try

Pity Delta Goodrem - who was Born To Try - in a world where trying isn't cool. At all. Tom Gleeson said that his Gold Logie win was a bit of a joke, and talked down everyone who 'tried' to win it. But, hold on, wasn't he was on every TV show and magazine drumming up support? Sounds like trying to us. Plus, Taylor Swift says her 'biggest bully' now owns the rights to all her music. How the hell did that happen, and why is she now being slammed for complaining about it? And champion-'tryer' Ivanka Trump accompanied her father Donald to the G20 summit last week. And everyone is laughing at her. But is that cruel? Or is laughing at the Trumps the only way to stay sane? You can buy to see us live at mamamia.com.au/events and it's all thanks to our partners, Toyota Kluger…. That’s the question on everyone's mind as we lead into the 61st TV Week Logie Awards this Sunday. Plus, is it ever okay to change your engagement ring, a year after you’ve received it? That’s what Meghan Markle has done, and Holly has some very strong feelings about it. Introducing True Crime Conversations With Jessie Stephens

Jessie has a new show! It's called True Crime Conversations and each episode sees her interviewing experts about crimes that captivated, horrified and perplexed people from rural Australia to the world stage. This is the first episode about the case of Belgian Backpacker Davine Arckens. When 24-year-old Belgian backpacker Davine Arckens reached out to a man on Gumtree about working on his farm she was excited. The 88 days of labour would mean she could stay in Australia on a tourist visa for an extra year. She couldn’t wait to spend more time in a country she thought was safe and full of nice people. When Davine met the man it didn’t take long for her to realise she’d made a terrible mistake. Driven to what felt like the middle of nowhere, Davine was convinced she was hours from the nearest town. What followed was two harrowing days where she was held against her will and an escape that made national headlines. Walkley award winning journalist Richard Guilliatt reported on the story and he joins Jessie Stephens to walk us through it. Join our Facebook group True Crime Conversations here. Are You An Introvert Or Just Lazy?

We debate, discuss and dissect everything from the sex lives of millennials to whether or not you should confront someone who told you they were having a birthday dinner but then never sent you an invite. HOW RUDE! Rihanna has come out as a #ShyGirl in a recent interview, which has us wondering whether there’s a difference between shyness and introversion. And whether one of them is just a cover for laziness. Plus, it’s all over the news that millennials are NOT having less sex and that maybe we’ve been fooled by bad data. So why are Gen Y fooling around less often? Holly has some passionate words for those who aren’t regularly getting busy between the sheets. And in group therapy we help out a listener who doesn’t know what to do about her close friend not inviting her to her birthday dinner. You Need To Calm Down

From Taylor Swift's new music video to why we need to protect backpackers more in Australia, the latest episode of Mamamia Out Loud is live... Taylor Swift's new music video for You Need To Calm Down has split people into two camps: It’s either an empowering LGBTQIA+ anthem or it’s a tone-deaf, attempt to co-opt a marginalised group’s stories. Please explain. Plus, Jessie’s been working on a new true crime podcast and the first episode is all about an horrific attack on a young Belgian backpacker. Do we need to do more to protect young travellers to Australia? (You can subscribe to her new show here). Keanu Reeves Is Very Good In Bed

On today's show, we tackle everything from Gwyneth Paltrow's living arrangements to the Adani coal mine. And yes, the fact that Keanu Reeves is apparently good in bed. The ideal husband, according to Gwyneth Paltrow, is one who lives somewhere else. At least part of the time. In an interview with The Sunday Times over the weekend, Gwyneth Paltrow said she and her husband of less than a year, Brad Falchuk, live in separate homes in Los Angeles for 3 nights of the week. And a lot of you think it’s a good idea. But is it a rich person’s problem or a solution to keeping your relationship fresh? Plus, a year ago Eurydice Dixon was murdered. But has anything changed since then? Jessie did some research, and you might find yourself surprised. And we answer a group therapy about a baby and a dog that will give you all the feels. What Happens After The Worst Day Of Your Life

On the show today...everything from Ash Barty’s epic win to how a family who lost everything are inspiring so many... Five years ago, Anthony Maslin and Marite Norris faced a devastating loss. Their three children Mo, Otis and Evie aged 12, 10 and 8 were killed in the MH17 disaster while on their way home to Perth. They were with their grandfather Nick Norris, who also died and it was the end of the world as they knew it. We’re talking about the Maslin’s story today because on Monday, Rin and Anthony appeared on the ABC’s Australian Story to speak about the moment their lives changed forever. Holly thought it would be harrowing viewing but it was one of the most uplifting and positive things she's ever seen and she explains why. Plus, Nike recently introduced plus-size and para-sport mannequins at its London flagship store. But the plus size mannequins are ruffling some feathers and Mia calls bullshit. And, on Saturday night Ash Barty became the first Australian woman in 46 years to win the French Open and the second First Nations woman in history. We give a shout out to this incredible woman. Stuff We Pretend To Like

A few weeks ago a New York Times article claimed no one enjoys drinking Aperol Spritz and the internet went mad. Because apparently, it’s true. Which got us thinking..what other things do people pretend to like? Oysters? Mothers-in-law? Sex? Mia has a very long list and it involves parks, pools and a whole lot of other random things. Plus, next time someone tells you a man’s career will be ruined if an angry woman makes an allegation against them in the #metoo era, we want you to picture Holly’s Tuesday night. She went to see the comedian Aziz Ansari. At the Sydney Opera House. It was the first of two sold-out stand-up shows he was playing to the 2000 capacity Concert Hall. Are You A Bernie Or An Elton?

The Elton John biopic Rocketman was released this week and it looks closely at the relationship between Elton John and his songwriting partner Bernie Taupin. But the one question it has Jessie Stephens asking is - are you a ‘Bernie’ or an ‘Elton’ when it comes to your life? And by this she means do you want the limelight for your work or are you just happy floating in the background making good things? Plus, in case you missed it, unmarried women are the healthiest and happiest according to London professor Paul Dolan. Apparently married men take fewer risks and “calm down” and are therefore healthier than their single counterparts, whereas married women report more mental and physical problems than single ones. So who’s happier and does it really matter? And is it okay to pull out the Entertainment Book on a date? That’s this weeks group therapy. How Australia Failed Courtney Herron

On Saturday morning the body of 25-year-old Courtney Herron was found in Melbourne’s Royal Park in Parkville. There’s been a lot of coverage surrounding Courtney’s death, shockingly she’s the 20th woman to be killed in Australia this year. But people are specifically focussing on the fact that she was homeless and that she’d been seeking government assistance for some time, needing housing and treatment for her drug dependency and was suffering from mental illness. So is this a conversation about violence against women or is it one about homelessness? Or both? Plus, the UK’s second female prime minister, Theresa May handed down her resignation speech on May 24. So what does this mean for Brexit? Holly is back with her famed poo-skirt analogy, and it’s a ripper. And, Toffee is the world’s first dating app only for people who went to private schools. I Dated A Celebrity Or Did I?

Dating is hard. Particularly if someone thinks you were dating when you weren't. In his new memoir, American music producer and DJ Moby wrote that he and actress Natalie Portman briefly dated when she was 20 and he was 33.The thing is, Portman denies the claims, saying that Moby was “a much older man being creepy with me when I had just graduated from high school.” Portman also says she was 18 at the time, not 20. So can it be possible for one person to think you’re dating, and the other person to NOT think you’re dating? Plus, we received a call from an Outlouder asking a very pertinent question about pregnancy. Should you find out the gender of your baby? And if so, should you tell anyone? And, Australians can't stop taking selfies. So is it a problem when we care more about how an experience looks than how it feels? When Boobs Shout Louder Than Words

This week, deputy leader of the Labor Party, Tanya Plibersek, announced she would not be contesting the leadership. Which is perfect for Holly because she's got some post-election thoughts she needs to get off her chest. Plus, filling in for Mia this week is Editorial Assistant Jess Wang and she’s brought an equally serious question to the table...can you pat a dog without asking it's owner for permission? And if you do ask are you then forced to make excruciating small talk with them or can you just pat their dog and walk away? And what do boobs have to do with protesting abortion laws? Following the recent Alabama abortion ban, women all over the world are sharing their stories via the #youknowme hashtag. But is there a wrong way to protest? The Woman Who Works 22 Hours A Day

The election is happening TOMORROW - and 3.5 million Australians have already voted. This has never happened before and no-one really knows why. So is this a generational shift away from ‘event’ voting and towards convenience? It’s going to completely change the way politicians campaign next time and also means it’s likely we won’t get a result on Saturday and Holly has some very strong feelings about it. Jessie went to an engagement party over the weekend and didn’t bring a gift because the invitation said not to bring a gift. But when she got there? Yep, you guessed it. Gifts. And lots of them. So is she a bad person or did she do the right thing? Plus, how many hours a day do you work? 71-year-old American author Danielle Steel says she works 22 hours a day. And, she’s written 178 books. She’s listed in the Guinness Book of World Records for having a book on the New York Times best-seller list for the most consecutive weeks of any author. But is this a life really worth living? The Very Worst Person In The World Right Now

This week, the internet canceled a 19-year-old Youtuber called James Charles. In a matter of days, the teenage YouTuber lost 2.6 million subscribers and counting. He was unfollowed by some of the biggest names on social media, including Kylie Jenner, Kim Kardashian, Demi Lovato, Katy Perry, Shawn Mendes and Miley Cyrus – many of whom didn’t just follow his account, but know him personally. So what did he do and why should we care? Mia Freedman is here to explain. Plus, Belle Gibson is back in the headlines for all the wrong reasons. The 27-year-old fraudster owes the courts over $400,000 but when quizzed about why she hasn’t paid anything back yet, her reasonings were...strange. Did she get paid $75000 by 60 Minutes? She can’t remember. Has she been on any holidays since 2015? She doesn’t know. So what’s going on and who is this Clive bloke she says she lives with? And, are girls’ weekends the new sleepovers? We discuss the new Netflix movie Wine Country and why more adult women are choosing to spend time with people they love but may not necessarily like anymore...
