    Episode 14 - Disco Fusion

Got something to say to this podcast? Send a voicemail, and you might hear yourself on the next episode! Guest selector Denis La Funk picked five disco cuts for this High 5, and this music-only edition plays the three of them that could be sourced as official full versions, filled out with more tracks from the same three artists. Monte is a Hamburg producer whose 80s-cop-show synths ride a deep funk groove. Aurolab brings Russian nu-disco from Soviett Records, the label Denis calls his favourite. Tiger & Woods, the Italian disco-house duo, are the pair behind the only fully sample-free track from their tenth-anniversary album. Episode 9 - Grooveworthy

Got something to say to this podcast? Send a voicemail, and you might hear yourself on the next episode! Alberta producer Jon Mussell records as Grooveworthy, making synthwave with a strong sense of humour — action-movie and 80s-cop obsessions run through tracks like Jack Deth, Angel City PD and the Renegade City Rollers series, and he started the Miami Dream Drive parody compilations that became a scene in-joke. He has been a visual artist longer than a musician and did the artwork for his Jet and Danger collaboration single with Vestron Vulture; his later Bandcamp releases include SUN/OCEAN (2015) and HOT PINK. 00:01 — Silent Strike II: Kung Fu Grip VIP (Jet and Danger) 04:46 — Renegade City Rollers 06:03 — Sexy Poolside MILFs mashup (podcast excerpt, as before —no clean master exists) 07:01 — Jack Deth, Angel City PD 12:15 — The Internet (top track, 16,824 plays) 15:49 — GIZA (top track, 11,779 plays) 20:58 — C.O.P.S II: Pandemic Assault (top track, 9,957 plays) 24:16 — Bikini Boulevard (top track, 9,452 plays) 28:46 — DEATHDISCO (top track, 8,180 plays) Bandcamp: https://grooveworthy.bandcamp.com SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/mrmollusk Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/grooveworthymusic X: https://twitter.com/Groov3Worthy

Got something to say to this podcast? Send a voicemail, and you might hear yourself on the next episode! About the artist: British producer Edward Gamper records as Sunglasses Kid, making keyboard-heavy, romantic 80s-style funk-pop — vocal-driven retropop steeped in high-school movies and 80s/90s teen culture, mixed with electronic instrumentals played on real instruments. His Unpredictable EP (September 2013), the record this episode showcases, pairs him with vocalists including The Boy & Sister Alma, Leon Monroe and Kristine alongside saxophonist Bret Grace; he went on to Graduation(2017), Sophomore (2020), the Night Life EP (2022) and Internal Affairs(2024). 0:01 Come Back to Me (feat. Got something to say to this podcast? Send a voicemail, and you might hear yourself on the next episode! Jake Freeman records as Protector 101, named for the security robots of the 1986 horror film Chopping Mall — "a robot designed to protect but gone haywire in a mass slaughter of helpless humans." Dark synth in the 80s sci-fi/horror tradition, soundtrack-like pieces packed with sound design; Hunter's Journey (March 2013, Aphasia) and Solitary Star (a concept score for an unmade 80s sci-fi film). 0:01 — Hunter's Descent (full track, official Bandcamp stream, from Hunter's Journey) 5:08 — Escape (excerpt from the Beyond Synth episode — no full official master exists for this one, so it's an episode clip, not a full track) 6:12 — Protect the Innocent [2016 Remaster] (full track, official Bandcamp stream, from The Prime Directives [2016 Remastered Deluxe Edition]) 11:15 — L.A. Episode 4 - Who Ha/Modern Knight

Got something to say to this podcast? Send a voicemail, and you might hear yourself on the next episode! NYC retro-revivalist Mike Mendoza, who records as Who Ha (now Modern Knight) — 80s/90s-inspired pop that plays it completely straight while the lyrics stay deadpan silly. He started making 80s music on the PlayStation MTV Music Generator back in '97/'98, graduated to FL Studio, and in 2013 put out the Khaki EP and the Out Running single as name-your-price Bandcamp releases. His two calling cards: 'Khaki' ('Look at my pants, aren't they nice?') and 'Out Running,' both built like lost Top 40 hits with Tears for Fears and Rick Astley DNA. He now records as Modern Knight, runs Retro Promenade, and hosts the Vox Populi podcast. The edition (26:37 total) contains: "Khaki" — starts at 0:01 (4:58, full track) "That Thing" — starts at 5:00 (6:00) "Out Running" — starts at 11:01 (5:06) "Over The Top (& Into The Horizon)" (Who Ha & Phaserland) — starts at 16:07 (4:56) "Space Freighter Janus IV" — starts at 21:04 (5:31) SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/modernknightly Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thetheWhoWhoHaHa X: @theWhoHa

    Episode 3 - Ogre

Got something to say to this podcast? Send a voicemail, and you might hear yourself on the next episode! UK composer and synthwave producer Robin Ogden builds imagined soundtracks for films that don't exist — wonky vintage analogue synths, tape loops and spring reverb, recorded hot and gritty. His 2012 album 194 is a love letter to Carpenter, Goblin and Vangelis, and Calico Brawn (2013), the album spotlighted in Beyond Synth's first episode, is its Miami Vice-soaked counterpart, mastered to VHS — its "Shore Thing" became the Beyond Synth theme. He's since scored award-winning games (Actual Sunlight, This Is The Police I & II, Hacknet: Labyrinths), featured in and scored The Rise of the Synths, and was named Electronic Sound Magazine's One To Watch in 2019. "2019" (from 194) — starts at 0:01 "End Credits" (from 194) — starts at 2:25 "The Call" (from Calico Brawn) — starts at 5:12 "All's Well That Ends Well" (from Calico Brawn) — starts at 10:10 "Interceptor" (from 195) — starts at 14:32 "Negotiation's Over" (from 195) — starts at 17:05 "It's dangerous to go alone" (from the À La Cart EP, a short clip) — starts at 19:33

    Episde 2 - Dynatron

Got something to say to this podcast? Send a voicemail, and you might hear yourself on the next episode! Dynatron is the project of Danish producer Jeppe Hasseriis, making instrumental synthwave since 2012. Where much of the genre cruises neon city streets, Dynatron looks up: his music is space-themed 'spacesynth' inspired by films like Alien and Blade Runner and by Jean-Michel Jarre — pulsing arpeggios, deep bass and melancholic, cinematic melodies built around strong themes. His catalogue runs from the debut album Escape Velocity (2012) through the Throttle Up EP, the acclaimed Aeternus (2015) and The Rigel Axiom EP (2016), released with Blood Music. 0:00 — Propulsion Overdrive (Escape Velocity) 5:15 — Rise to the Stars (Throttle Up) 10:16 — Intergalactic Highway (Throttle Up) 14:45 — Hyperion Sunrise (Aeternus) 17:20 — Escape (Aeternus) — Andy calls this one his favorite Dynatron track, by the way 23:42 — Contact (The Rigel Axiom) 28:50 — Storms (The Rigel Axiom) 35:06 — Visions (The Legacy Collection, Vol. II) Support the artist here...
