If You Feel Skinny Fat, Here's What Needs to Change

Younger me needed this episode so bad. If you've been consistent for years, putting in the work, and you still have that skinny fat look — flat, no shape, not lean either — this one's for you. I spent 5 years doing basically everything wrong before I finally figured out how to build muscle and change my body composition — and my first real muscle-building phase changed my body faster than those entire 5 years combined. In this episode I'm walking through the exact mistakes that kept me (and keep so many women) stuck: skipping meals, chasing a calorie deficit nonstop, obsessing over burned calories instead of building muscle, under-fueling with carbs, letting the scale run the show, switching plans too soon, and basing everything on how I looked instead of how I felt and performed. If you're doing all the "right" things and still not seeing results, it's probably not about doing more — it's about doing the right things, in the right phase, long enough to actually work. Want a personalized starting point? Grab my nutrition plan, my lean building guide, or my free recipe eBook — links in the show notes. How I Learned to Love Training Hard (And Actually Look Forward to Leg Day)

Confession: I used to skip gym class, and tear workouts out of magazines I could never get myself to actually do. But now? Training hard is one of my favorite parts of my day — and it's not because of how it makes me look. In this episode I'm walking through how my mindset around exercise completely changed: why "I choose to" beats "I have to," why chasing numbers in the gym instead of the scale changes everything, and why I started treating leg day as something to look forward to instead of something to survive. And ironically, it made my body change and improved my body composition SO much more. This one's part gym talk, part mindset work, and pretty much exactly how I'd explain this to a friend. Y'all know I like to go in-depth with the details and education on topics like this (so it actually makes sense + is simple for you to apply and see results), so I put all my advice + what I've learned over the years about building muscle while minimizing excess body fat, and put it in a Lean Building Guide. Free to download, because I will never gate-keep this info from the women who value strong > skinny 💪🏼 Download it here: https://lainijojo.com/lean-building-guide Love you ladies, now go do something your future self will thank you for.

The Pressure to Be "Enough" Isn't Motivation ... (it's something we're taught as women)

Ever feel like your worth is tied to how hard you work out, how "perfect" your nutrition is, how you look, or how smart you sound? In this episode, I'm getting real about the invisible pressure I've carried for years — to look a certain way, to say the right thing, to earn my value through achievement — and what changed when I finally started releasing it. We're talking body image, the "shoulds" running your life, why your workouts don't have to be about how you look, and how to find a motivation that's actually yours. Your Nutrition and Fitness Journey is the Gateway to Personal Development | My Interview on The Through Line Podcast

This week's episode is a little different — instead of my usual solo or guest format, I'm sharing a conversation I had on my friend Sam's brand new podcast, The Through Line. I was her very first guest ever, and it was such a good, real conversation that I wanted to bring it straight to you guys too. We get into my own health journey — the disordered eating, the years I spent studying exercise science to finally understand what I'd been doing wrong, and what I've learned since coaching hundreds of women from confusion to actual sustainable results. We talk about why so many women are under-muscled and overfed, the real difference between working out and training, and why muscle is the key to the body composition results women actually want. We also dig into how tracking macros is a tool for learning your body's language — not a cage. Sam's podcast is all about women who are done outsourcing their knowledge about their own bodies and lives to whoever's loudest online, and I am genuinely so excited for you guys to hear more from her. Your Fear of the Scale Is Ruining Your Body, Your Metabolism, and Your Relationship with Food

If you are scared to see the scale go up, terrified to eat more, and feel like no matter how hard you work your body just won't change — this one is for you. Diet culture has fed us the wrong information for decades. Eat less, move more, shrink yourself, fear the number on the scale. And most of us have just been doing it over and over wondering why it isn't working — thinking it's a willpower problem when it never was. In this episode I'm sharing my own experience with restriction, an eating disorder, and years of spinning my wheels, and exactly what changed when I finally stopped chasing the scale and started actually building my metabolism and my body. We cover why the scale is not the measure of your progress, what restriction is doing to your metabolism and hormones, why eating more might be exactly what your body needs, what a reverse diet is and why it's a game changer, and how to finally stop the restrict-binge-repeat cycle for good. It is not a discipline problem. You just got bad directions. Let's fix that. 📌 Macro Guide: https://lainijojo.com/macro-guide 📌 One-Time Macro Count Setup: https://lainijojo.com/guide-macro-count-order-form 💌 DM me on Instagram: @lainijojo

If you wake up, grab your phone, scroll, compare yourself, and rush into your day already stressed — your morning is working against you. And not just for your body goals. For everything. I used to wake up dreading the day, already anxious before I even got out of bed. Now I genuinely look forward to mornings. The Hidden Cost of Always Putting Yourself Last

You show up for everyone — your job, your family, your relationships. But by the time the day is done, you're the one running on empty. And somewhere along the way, you just stopped expecting anything different. In this episode, we're talking about what that's actually costing you — and it goes a lot deeper than being tired. Society taught us to put ourselves last, and diet culture told us to sacrifice everything to be "skinny." Both leave us exhausted, depleted, and disconnected from ourselves. The real cost isn't the fatigue. It's the relationship you're building — or not building — with yourself. We cover: Why the confidence you're chasing comes from showing up for you, not just hitting a goal The most important relationship you'll ever have (hint: it's with yourself) Why the "fill your cup to pour into others" mindset is missing the point The ripple effect that happens when women start genuinely taking care of themselves Three practical places to start today: nutrition, movement, and your mornings You deserve to take care of yourself. Not because it makes you more productive. Not because it helps you show up better for others. Just because you do. Why New Habits Feel So Hard (It Has Nothing to Do With Willpower)

Ever started a new habit — working out, tracking your food, getting better with money — and felt like you were constantly fighting yourself to stick with it? In this episode, I'm joined by my husband Alex to break down the actual brain science behind why new habits feel so uncomfortable at first, and why that has nothing to do with your discipline or willpower. We talk about how your brain is literally wired to resist change, why your identity plays a bigger role than most people realize, and the simple mindset shift that makes everything feel more manageable — especially when you're just getting started. If you've ever felt like something is wrong with you because you can't seem to stay consistent, this one is for you. You'll walk away with: Why your brain fights new habits (and how to work with it, not against it) How identity and action are connected — and which one actually comes first Why "it's not hard, it's just new" is the reframe that changes everything How to start small, build confidence, and actually stick with it this time Chapters 00:00 Introduction to Her Revival Podcast 00:57 Understanding the Challenge of New Habits 04:11 The Brain's Resistance to Change 09:48 The Importance of Identity in Habit Formation 15:00 The Role of Mindset in Overcoming Challenges 20:00 Taking Action: The Key to Success 25:08 Reframing Hardship: It's Not Hard, It's Just New

We're Rebranding Discipline (so it actually feels easy & GOOD)

You're going to experience the rest of your life in your body and your mind. Why wouldn't you want to make those the best possible places to live? For years, I thought consistency came from more discipline, more pressure, and forcing myself to try harder. Eventually I realized I had the entire thing backwards... If you've ever felt like you know what to do but can't seem to get yourself to do it consistently, this episode is for you. Most women think the answer is more discipline, more motivation, more willpower, more pressure. I used to think that too. But over time I realized consistency wasn't something I could force. The more I tried to shame, pressure, and criticize myself into changing, the more disconnected I became from myself. In this episode, I'm sharing the mindset shifts that completely changed my relationship with consistency, self-trust, and showing up for myself. We talk about why devotion is more powerful than discipline, why so many women struggle to trust themselves, and how to build a relationship with yourself where healthy habits stop feeling like a constant fight. Plus, I'm sharing 3 practical tools you can start using immediately to build confidence, self-trust, and consistency in your health journey and beyond. In this episode: • Why discipline often feels like punishment • The difference between discipline and devotion • How to rebuild self-trust after years of starting over • Why consistency is an identity shift, not a motivation problem • A simple exercise to build confidence and self-belief • How to stop relying on willpower and create systems that work • Why learning to do hard things changes more than just your fitness journey If this episode resonates with you, I'd love to hear from you and find my people. Send me a message on Instagram and let me know which mindset shift or tool stood out most. 9 Habits I Swapped to Transform My Body Composition & Relationship With Food

If you feel like you’re constantly stuck in the cycle of under-eating, overeating, saving calories for later, obsessing over food, or doing everything ‘right’ but still not getting the toned, healthy body you want… this episode is for you. In this episode, I’m sharing the 9 habits I personally had to change to completely transform my body composition, improve my metabolism, build muscle, and heal my relationship with food after years of dieting, restriction, food guilt, and all-or-nothing thinking. Why You Keep Falling Back Into Old Patterns (And How to Finally Change It)

If you keep saying you’re going to change… but keep doing the same thing anyway — this is why. This is the exact pattern I see with clients every single week. With food, workouts, relationships… you know what to do, but in the moment, you just don’t do it. And then you’re left thinking: “Why do I keep doing this?” In this episode, I’m breaking down what’s actually happening -- because it’s not that you’re lazy or don’t care enough. You’re reacting. Not choosing. We get into: why most of your behaviors are automatic (and why awareness isn’t enough to change them) what’s actually going on in your brain when you “fall off” the difference between your reactive self vs. the version of you you actually want to be and how to start interrupting that pattern in real time I also walk through real examples with food, workouts, and relationships so you can actually apply this -- not just understand it. Because once you get this, you stop feeling like you’re out of control… and you start showing up like the person you keep saying you want to be. If You’ve Been Feeling Off, Exhausted, and Unmotivated Lately… Listen to This

If you feel like you’re doing everything right—but you’re exhausted, overwhelmed, and starting to lose motivation… this episode is for you. In today’s episode, I’m breaking down the burnout cycle I see in so many high-achieving women (and honestly, something I just caught myself slipping back into again). Because here’s the truth: It’s not that you need more discipline. It’s not that you’re lazy. And it’s definitely not that you’re “not doing enough.” You’re likely doing too much… without the right structure, recovery, and awareness. We’re talking about: The early warning signs of burnout most women ignore What burnout actually does to your body (hormones, fat loss, muscle, energy) Why “pushing harder” makes everything worse The all-or-nothing mindset that keeps you stuck in this cycle How to stay ambitious WITHOUT running yourself into the ground The exact shifts you need to keep progressing while actually feeling good If you’re someone who: – Has big goals – Loves working hard – But constantly feels overwhelmed, tired, or like you’re falling behind This episode will help you understand what’s really going on—and how to fix it. Because you don’t need to stop being driven… You just need to learn how to work with your body instead of against it. — If this episode helped you, share it with a friend who needs to hear it 💛 And if you’re struggling with burnout, hormones, or feeling stuck in your progress, send me a message on Instagram @lainijojo — I’d love to help point you in the right direction.

    Self-Sabotage Isn’t Real (Here’s What’s Actually Happening)

If you’ve ever felt like you keep getting in your own way… this episode is going to change how you see that. Because what if you’re not actually self-sabotaging? What if your brain is just trying to protect you? In this episode, I’m breaking down: – Why “self-sabotage” isn’t actually what’s happening – How your beliefs shape your actions (without you realizing it) – The role your subconscious mind plays in your habits – What a “protector part” is and why it shows up – How to start rewiring your brain so you can actually change This is the deeper work that allows you to: → stay consistent → stop repeating the same patterns → and finally become the version of you that you know you’re capable of If you’ve been feeling stuck, frustrated, or like you “know what to do but aren’t doing it”… this is for you. — If this episode helped you, share it with someone who needs to hear it 🤍 Watch on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@lainijojo * (downloadable worksheet I mentioned in the episode is available in the description box, video Stop Self-Sabotaging: How to Rewire Your Brain & Finally Change) My Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/lainijojo/

How to Build Muscle as a Woman Without Getting Bulky

In this episode, I’m breaking down why building muscle as a woman is one of the best things you can do for your body, your confidence, and your long-term health. We’re talking about what it actually takes to get that toned look so many women want, why lifting weights does not automatically make you bulky, and the three biggest pieces of the puzzle when it comes to building muscle: nutrition, training, and recovery. I also talk about: - why muscle matters for metabolism and healthy aging - how much protein you really need - why eating too little can hold you back - how to train in a way that actually builds muscle - why progressive overload matters - the mindset shift that helps you stay consistent If you’ve ever wanted to feel stronger, more confident, and more at home in your body, this episode is for you. This Is What Actually Changes When You Start Showing Up for Yourself

This episode is one of my favorites I’ve ever recorded. I sat down with my client and friend Sam to talk about her journey over the past year—not just physically, but mentally, emotionally, and in how she shows up in her life. We talk about what it actually looks like to: Stop second-guessing every food choice Build confidence by keeping promises to yourself Go from “I don’t know what I’m doing” in the gym to feeling strong and capable Create structure that feels freeing, not restrictive Stay consistent even with a busy, social life What I love most about Sam’s story is that nothing about it is extreme. It’s intentional, grounded, and sustainable—and that’s exactly why it works. If you’ve ever felt stuck, overwhelmed, or like you “know what to do” but can’t seem to follow through… this conversation will hit. I hope it gives you a new perspective on what’s actually possible for you. Go do something today your future self will thank you for. My Fitness Journey

In this episode, I’m sharing my fitness journey in a way I haven’t really talked about before. From struggling with my relationship with food, to overtraining, burnout, and serious health issues… there were a lot of moments where I wanted to quit. And honestly — from the outside, none of that would have been visible. Because what we usually see on social media is the result, not the struggle it took to get there. This episode is about what it actually looks like to go through hard seasons — and why those seasons are often the exact thing shaping you into the person capable of the life you want. If you’ve ever felt stuck, behind, or like it’s harder for you than everyone else… this one’s for you. In this episode, we talk about: My real fitness journey (not the highlight reel) My struggles with food, burnout, and health Why “hard” is part of the process How to keep going when you want to quit Building confidence through doing hard things If this resonates, I’d love for you to share it with someone who needs to hear it 🤍

Why You Keep Starting Over in Fitness

If one day off track makes you feel like you’ve ruined the whole week with your health and fitness… this episode is for you. Today we’re talking about why dieting often feels easier than maintaining a healthy lifestyle, how the all-or-nothing mindset keeps so many women stuck starting over, and the mindset shift that helps you build habits that actually last. Because the women who stay consistent with their health long-term aren’t the ones who execute perfectly every day — they’re the ones who learn how to live between the extremes. If you’ve ever felt like you’re either “all in” or completely off track with your fitness… this episode will help you understand why that cycle happens and how to finally break out of it. Exercising vs. Training | Why Your Workouts Aren’t Changing Your Body

Most women work out consistently. They sweat. They push. They leave exhausted. And yet… their body doesn’t change the way they expected. In this episode, I’m breaking down the difference between exercising and actually training — and why this shift completely changed my body composition. I’m sharing: How I used to approach workouts (and why it wasn’t working) The concept of specificity and why your body only adapts to what you repeatedly ask it to do The exact order I use to improve my clients’ training Why intensity matters more than you think The mental shift from chasing sweat to chasing stimulus If you’ve been working hard but not seeing the results you want, this episode will help you understand why — and what to do instead.
