Episode 124: The Chocolate Chip Cookie
In today's episode we go into the kitchen of Ruth Wakefield, whose unexpected approach to a batch of cookies helped create one of the most familiar foods in America. We follow the chocolate chip cookie from the Toll House Inn into soldiers' care packages, family kitchens, and eventually homes around the world. We explore what happens when a plan doesn't work, why paying attention to unexpected results matters, and how a creation can take on a life of its own once we let other people make it theirs. And we talk about why improvising isn't a guarantee that we'll find something great, but it gives us the chance to discover something we wouldn't have found by sticking to the plan.
