    Aquarium of the Pacific

In today’s episode, "Aquarium of the Pacific", the crew revisits their time at the Aquarium of the Pacific, located in sunny Long Beach California. Amber and Christine were actually able to visit twice! They go through the exhibits, favorite sightings and rate the aquarium. Frogs, birds, jellies, sharks, they have quite a few species. They also have many garibaldi, the pride of the pacific ocean and native to California. We also provide a bit of history for this dynamite aquarium! Come along! This podcast is brought to you by the garibaldi, Hypsypops rubicundus. Commonly called the marine goldfish after its orange coloration, garibaldi are the largest damselfish in the world. Its name originates from Giuseppe Garibaldi, an Italian politician whose followers wore bright red shirts. One might assume that it’s named a garibaldi because it has no hair on its head, which is true. …No fish have hair at all. They are, in fact, baldies. Cheers to you, garibaldi and happy 2026. Year in Review: 2025

In this episode, "Year in Review: 2025," the crew gets sentimental about the year we’ve had. We reminisce about conferences, work trips and learning about fish. We chat about the episodes of the year such as fish myths, fish games, ancient fish, funding for research, shark training and evolution. We are proud of our growing listener base and proud of the famous folks we’ve had on our podcast. We are also SO thankful for you! If you are reading this right now, thank you for coming on this journey as we enter our fourth year of podcasting. Have a happy holiday and a happy new year! This podcast is brought to you by the basking shark, one of three plankton eating sharks in the world. Named after its common proximity to the surface of the water, people assumed they were sunning themselves, while they were probably just eating. When eating, the basking shark’s mouth is so large that it looks continually surprised. Maybe it's surprising that it doesn't eat something bigger than plankton. Basking sharks are a cosmopolitan species, meaning they can be found all over the world and adapt for various climates. They also love a good drink umbrella. Cheers to you, basking shark! Gettin' Fishy With Video Games (Remastered)

This week, we join the remaster trend by re-recording a classic episode that our online listeners have never heard! We did a live podcast episode at PAX East in Boston in 2024, and the recording was sadly lost (thanks tech guy Bernard…). We had so much fun the first time, we thought we’d record it all for our online listeners! We covered everything from the very first fishing games, to fishing minigames in games which otherwise have nothing to do with fishing! Want to learn about the history of fishing in video games? Take a listen! This podcast is brought to you by the Keefer’s Angelfish, one of the rarest fish in all of Stranglethorn Vale. These exquisite fish of the World of Warcraft do not breed but rather appear during a single event, leading to an all out clamor by fishing enthusiasts around Azeroth. One might think that the Keefer’s Angelfish doesn't look anything like an angelfish in the real world and that it seems similar to many other fish with the same EXACT icon and to that we’d say… “you're right”. Nonetheless, this fish remains one of the crown jewels for anglers everywhere. Cheers to you, Keefer’s Angelfish. Thanks for listening to Gettin’ Fishy With It!
