#39 | What Is Worship—and Is Yours Sustaining You?

In this episode of the Created to Be podcast, Bethany and Brandi are joined by Jeremiah Pierce for a conversation about what worship actually means—and why it is so much more than a song. Jeremiah breaks down the difference between praise and worship, including the idea that praise can be about what God has done while worship is about who He is. The conversation also explores how different denominations and church traditions express worship, from contemporary worship music to hymns, silence, liturgy, sacraments, and everything in between. But the conversation eventually moves beyond the church service. If worship is about giving something the right to influence us, what are we worshiping every day? Our sport? Our relationships? Our success? Our reputation? And what happens when the things we worship inevitably fail us? So the question isn't whether you're worshiping. The question is: What are you worshiping? #38 | To Believe: What Does It Actually Mean?

In this episode of the Created to Be podcast, Darius, Brandi, and Bethany continue their conversation around “What Matters” and take a deeper look at the word "believe." They explore the difference between superstition and biblical belief, the human desire for control, and what it means to trust Jesus rather than trying to create a desired outcome through our own efforts. Questions discussed in this episode include: If we are saved from sin and death and saved to life, what does it actually look like to live from that reality? Are we practicing spiritual disciplines because we are trying to be saved—or because we are already saved? And what happens when belief moves beyond simply knowing something is true to actually trusting and relying on God? Along the way, they talk about performance, works, gratitude, spiritual disciplines, God’s character, seasons of growth, and learning to trust Him with both the big things and the little details of everyday life. Scriptures Discussed in this episode: John 20:31, Romans 4:3, Acts 4:12 Resource Link Mentioned in this Episode: Word Study: Believe Leave Us a Comment! Send us your comments! #37 | Saved From. Saved To. Saved Through.

In this episode of the Created to Be podcast, Bethany, Justin, and Darius continue the conversation around FCA’s semester theme, “What Matters,” by diving into the topic of salvation. Coming from different church backgrounds and traditions, the conversation explores how different denominations and ministries communicate the gospel—from the Romans Road and the Four Spiritual Laws to FCA’s own gospel presentation. But underneath the different methods, they ask a simple question: What are we actually saved from, what are we saved to, and who are we saved through? #36 | What Matters. What Matters? What Matters!

In this episode of the Created to Be podcast, Bethany, Justin, and Brandi kick off a new semester of content and introduce this year’s FCA theme at Mississippi State: "What Matters." Together, they explore the difference between what feels urgent and what is actually important, the challenge of deciding what deserves our time and attention, and how the things we prioritize shape who we are becoming. From the “big rocks” of life to the questions we all have to wrestle with for ourselves, this conversation is about learning to build our lives around what will last. This semester, we’re asking the questions: What matters most? What matters in life? What matters to God? And what matters when life gets hard? Because formation is always happening. If we don’t intentionally consider what matters, something—or someone else—will decide for us. Mentioned in this episode: 3D Institute Leave Us a Comment! Send us your comments! #35 | Winning Hearts and Building Teams (feat. Coach Jeff Terrill)

In this episode of the Created to Be podcast, Bethany, Darius, and Brandi sit down with Coach Jeff Terrill, who brings 36 years of football coaching experience and 11 years with FCA, to talk about what he has learned about building teams and leading people. They hear stories from Coach Terrill's coaching career about quiet and vocal leaders, recruiting for team fit instead of simply recruiting talent, and why consistency is one of the best tools a leader has. They also dive into the harder side of leadership: setting standards, establishing boundaries, holding people accountable, and resisting the urge to rescue people from every difficult experience. It's a conversation full of stories, wisdom, and practical insight for coaches, athletes, parents, and anyone who wants to become a better leader. Leave Us a Comment! Send us your comments! #34 | From Me to We: Personality Tests and the Five Dysfunctions of a Team

In this episode of the Created to Be podcast, Bethany, Justin, and Darius explore what it takes to move from me to we—both as individuals and as members of a team. The conversation starts with personality tests, including the Enneagram, DISC, Myers-Briggs, Working Genius, and the Big Five. But instead of simply talking about what personality type we are, they explore what we actually do with that knowledge. How can understanding ourselves and the people around us help us navigate conflict, communicate better, extend grace, and become more self-aware? Drawing from experiences in athletics, ministry, leadership, marriage, and parenting, Bethany, Justin, and Darius wrestle with what it means to take personal responsibility, stop looking for shortcuts, challenge one another, and make excellence everyone's responsibility. #33 | Team Schedules, Grocery Store Debates, and Team Cohesion (feat. Scott Nicholson)

In this episode of the Created to Be podcast, Bethany and Justin sit down with Mississippi State football chaplain Scott Nicholson for a conversation that moves from college football to marriage, team culture, and what it means to build trust and community when life is lived in close quarters. Together, they explore the challenges athletes face when transitioning to a new team, why talent alone isn't enough to succeed, and how great programs create environments where people can grow. Drawing from experiences in football, baseball, basketball, ministry, and family life, they discuss everything from team cohesion and leadership to grocery-store disagreements and the realities of learning to live alongside other people. Along the way, they unpack why strong teams are built on trust, accountability, humility, and a shared purpose—and why the best leaders are willing to admit mistakes, uphold a standard, and invest in people beyond the game. #30 | The Adventure Episode (feat. Brad Smith)

In this episode of the Created to Be podcast, hosts Bethany, Justin, and Darius welcome a good friend of FCA, Brad Smith, to discuss the topic of adventure. After sharing some of Brad's incredible stories in a previous episode, the team wanted to dig deeper—not just into the adventures themselves, but into what it really means to live an adventurous life. Along the way, they make sure to fill in a few details that were left out the first time around and share plenty of laughs. From Brad's unforgettable mission trip mishap at the Canadian border to conversations about career changes, parenting, ministry, and stepping into the unknown, the group explores how curiosity, courage, and faith work together to shape who we become. Whether you're naturally adventurous or prefer to play it safe, you're in for a fun conversation filled with laughter, practical wisdom, and encouragement to embrace the adventure God has placed right in front of you. #29 | The Habits No One Sees (And the Discipline to Start Again)

In this episode of the Created to Be podcast, Bethany and Justin continue the topic of the offseason by exploring the hidden habits that shape who we become. They talk about why the things no one sees are eventually what everyone notices, and why success is built long before the spotlight ever arrives. The conversation also turns to one of the hardest challenges former athletes—and really all of us—face: learning to embrace a new season without comparing ourselves to who we used to be. Whether it's fitness, parenting, leadership, or your walk with God, discipline doesn't always look the same. Sometimes faithfulness is found in taking the next small step instead of trying to recreate your former peak. Along the way, they also have some fun breaking down the psychology behind World Cup penalty kicks, game theory, emotional control under pressure, and why the smallest daily habits often produce the biggest long-term impact. In this episode of the Created to Be podcast, Bethany, Justin, and Brandi catch up on summer adventures, the excitement surrounding the World Cup, and what they've observed from athletes during the offseason before diving into a conversation about why the work no one sees often matters the most. Drawing from their own experiences as athletes, coaches, and ministry leaders, they discuss what the offseason is really for—building endurance, refining skills, embracing discipline, and allowing God to shape us in the hidden seasons before public opportunities arrive. Whether you're an athlete, parent, coach, or simply walking through a season that feels quiet, this conversation is a reminder that preparation is never wasted and that today's unseen faithfulness often becomes tomorrow's greatest strength. #27 | When Someone Believes in You (feat. interview with Chris Billingsley Jr.)

In this episode of the Created to Be podcast, Bethany reflects on the powerful role encouragement and prayer play in shaping our lives before sharing an interview originally recorded by Jason Crowder with 2026 Mississippi State Baseball pitcher Chris Billingsley Jr. Chris opens up about his journey from junior college baseball to the SEC, how coaches and mentors helped build his confidence, and why prayer has become a central part of both his faith and his performance. He shares how spending time in God's Word transformed his perspective, how prayer sustains him through the ups and downs of baseball, and why he strives to be a light for Christ wherever he goes. This conversation is a reminder that becoming who we're created to be is rarely a solo journey. God often uses faithful people, encouraging words, and persistent prayers to shape our lives in ways we may never fully see. Reflection Question: Who believed in you when you needed it most? And who might God be calling you to encourage, pray for, and believe in today? #26 | When Service Changes Your Perspective (feat. interview with Blake Bevis)

In this special summer mini-series episode of Created to Be podcast, Bethany introduces an interview conducted by Jason Crowder of WFCA Radio with Mississippi State Baseball player Blake Bevis. Blake shares how a mission trip to the Dominican Republic became a turning point in his faith journey, opening his eyes to the joy, gratitude, and perspective that can be found through serving others. He reflects on the impact of FCA, the influence of strong Christian community, and how seeing people with very little yet abundant joy challenged the way he views life, baseball, and success. Before the interview, Bethany explores a powerful idea from The Joy Switch: service changes what we see. When we step into someone else's story, our priorities shift, our perspective changes, and joy often follows. This episode is a reminder that serving others doesn't just impact those being served—it transforms us, too. Reflection Question: Who do I need to give my attention and listening ears to today? #25 | Living Free from Expectations (feat. interview with Jack Bauer)

In this special summer mini-series episode of the Created to Be podcast, Bethany introduces an interview with Mississippi State Baseball pitcher Jack Bauer, conducted by Jason Crowder of WFCA radio for the FCA Radio Show. As one of the most highly regarded young pitchers in college baseball, Jack shares what it has been like to navigate expectations, accolades, pressure, and faith while pursuing excellence on and off the field. One statement in particular stands out: "I've just had to learn not to live up to anyone else's expectations." Following the interview, Bethany reflects on how easily our identity can become tied to performance, approval, and achievement. Drawing insights from The Joy Switch, she explores how joy begins to fade when we live in constant evaluation mode and how Jesus invites us to find our worth in relationship with God rather than in the opinions of others. Whether you're an athlete, coach, parent, student, or leader, this episode offers an important reminder: your value is not determined by your performance. True joy is found in becoming who God created you to be. Reflection Question: What expectation am I carrying right now that God never asked me to carry? In this episode of the Created to Be podcast, Bethany, Justin, Darius, and Mary Ashley dive into the “stretch time” with a conversation about the best and worst marriage advice they’ve heard over the years. From “never go to bed angry” and “happy wife, happy life” to learning how to communicate for understanding instead of just reacting, the group shares honest stories, hard-earned lessons, and a lot of laughter along the way. In this episode of the Created to Be podcast, Justin, Bethany, and Darius sit down with MSU FCA intern Mary Ashley Culpepper to hear her FCA story and talk about her upcoming wedding in July. #21 | Open Mic Moments, Traveler Personality Types, and Vacation Stories

In this episode of the Created to Be podcast, the crew takes a more story-driven approach as they reflect on meaningful moments from FCA this semester, the impact of relationships in spiritual growth, and the hilarious — and sometimes chaotic — realities of vacations. From Open Mic testimonies that revealed just how much students have grown this year, to conversations about how transformation is often “caught” through community instead of simply taught through information, this episode explores how formation happens in everyday moments we don’t always recognize while we’re living them. The team also shares unforgettable vacation stories involving international travel mishaps, language barriers, shark cage excursions in South Africa, travel stress, parenting on vacation, ATV wipeouts, drone accidents, and the unpredictability that always seems to come with trips away from home. Through all the laughter and storytelling, the episode highlights how travel often exposes our assumptions, stretches our patience, and creates memories that stay with us for years. This episode is full of humor, honesty, meaningful reflection, and reminders that growth often happens through connection, consistency, humility, and simply showing up. Leave Us a Comment! #20 | Offloading Gear, a Sacrificial Pursuit, and Formation through Transition (feat. Madisyn Farmer)

In this episode of Created To Be Podcast, former MSU All-American softball player Madisyn Farmer joins Bethany, Justin, and Brandi for an honest conversation about the transitions we all face in life. Madi shares her deeply personal journey of stepping away from college athletics and the unexpected grief that came with it. From discovering she played her final season on a broken foot to navigating the loss of structure, community, and identity, she opens up about the often-unspoken realities of life after sports. Brandi reflects on leaving a 17-year community and what it looks like to trust God when the next step isn’t clear. Justin and Bethany unpack how seasons of change reveal what’s beneath the surface—performance-driven mindsets, fear of others’ opinions, and the challenge of redefining purpose. At the center of it all is a powerful truth: God remains the same—even when everything else changes. Whether you’re an athlete, a recent graduate, or simply walking through a season of transition, this episode offers a raw and hope-filled perspective on healing, growth, and learning to move forward when life doesn’t look like you expected.
