Another Not Guilty

Another Not Guilty

Another Not Guilty tells the stories true crime won’t touch — the real cases where the government gets it wrong, the defense fights back, and justice somehow survives. Hosted by public defenders who’ve seen everything from police “oopsies” to prosecutorial plot twists, ANG gives you a front-row seat to the wild, emotional, hilarious, and infuriating world inside America’s courtrooms.

Each episode features real public defenders sharing the cases that made them laugh, cry, or question reality. These are true stories of everyday people thrown into a system built to convict — and the defenders who fought like hell to prove otherwise.

You’ll hear unforgettable cases like:
• “Meth, Murder, and a Missing Boyfriend” — a dark, twisty saga with cartel rumors, a desert crime scene, and a defendant everyone assumed was guilty… until he wasn’t.

• “Pin the Gun on the Homie” — where a gun supposedly teleported between suspects.
• “Is That a Burrito in Your Pocket?” — where police mistook a wrapped burrito for a deadly weapon.
• “Where Are Angie’s Pants?” — the chaotic courtroom showdown where missing pants became Exhibit A.

Some stories are hilarious, some are heartbreaking, and some will make you want to flip a courtroom table — but they’re all true.

We mix humor with honesty because that’s how public defenders survive this work: laughing so we don’t cry, telling the truth because others won’t, and fighting because someone’s freedom depends on it.

This podcast is for:

• True-crime fans who want the truth, not fear-based fiction
• Law students, lawyers, public defenders, investigators
• Anyone curious how trials actually work
• People who love courtroom drama, dark humor, and underdog victories
• Reform-minded listeners who want real insight into the criminal legal system
• Folks tired of the “defendant is always guilty” narrative

This is a true-crime–alternative podcast focused on wrongful accusations, police misconduct, wrongful arrests, jury trials, cross-examinations, defense investigations, forensic flaws, Fourth Amendment battles, prosecutorial overreach, and real courtroom strategy. The show highlights public defender cases involving unconstitutional searches, coerced pleas, chain-of-custody failures, bad photo lineups, questionable witness IDs, and systemic injustice across the criminal legal system.

Topics include: wrongful convictions, criminal defense strategy, voir dire and jury selection, trial advocacy, body-cam breakdowns, suppression hearings, witness credibility, government misconduct, mental health in the justice system, mass incarceration, and the human stories hidden behind criminal accusations. Ideal for fans of true-crime alternatives, wrongful conviction podcasts, legal storytelling, police accountability, public defender content, and real courtroom audio.

By blending authentic trial stories, expert legal insight, social-justice commentary, and humor, Another Not Guilty reveals what really happens in court — not the TV fantasy, but the human reality. These are the cases where ordinary people fought the system… and won.

From the Archives: Jumpin’ The Grenade For Truth & Justice

During the great platform migration, we discovered that several older episodes had vanished from the record. Unlike the prosecution, we don’t hide the evidence. So we dusted off the master, cleaned up the audio, rewrote the description, and released this one back into the wild. Originally in Season 1 Episode 14, Public defender Mike takes on a double homicide case where the prosecution’s theory has more holes than a crime scene interview conducted by committee. As Mike digs deeper, the DA’s case begins shedding evidence, logic, and apparently any remaining attachment to structural integrity. What first looks like a straightforward prosecution turns into a spectacular collapse of assumptions and strategy. The case proves that truth and justice sometimes require jumping onto the grenade before the state can pull the pin, especially when the grenade is labeled “Exhibit A” and nobody bothered to check whether it was armed. From the Archives: Nobody Likes These Charges

This episode has been pulled from the archives for reasons entirely unrelated to switching platforms and discovering that several old episodes had disappeared like a witness after being asked whether they actually saw anything. We cleaned up the audio, rewrote the description, and returned the case to the docket. Public defender Erik takes on sensitive and deeply serious allegations complicated by unreliable witnesses and a prosecution determined to move forward. Erik carefully challenges the accusations without losing sight of the human stakes, exposes weaknesses in the government’s case, and fights for a client facing charges that can destroy a life before a jury ever hears evidence. The case ends during jury selection, proving that sometimes the strongest courtroom victory happens before opening statements and before the prosecution has time to prepare another PowerPoint labeled “Justice.” Dive into more stories from the bold and brilliant public defenders at all the places you get your podcasts, and our social channels: Stay Connected & Support the Show: Website: anothernotguiltypod.com Follow us on Instagram: @anothernotguilty Find us on Facebook: Another Not Guilty Support the show (potential bonus content!): Patreon

The Prick Gets Caught in the Zipper …? When the state tries to stitch up a case

Editors note: This episode was originally released in Season 2 as two part episode. We have combined it to be one episode and give some of our newer listeners a chance to catch up on some of our "classic" NGs! The prosecution thought they had zipped up the case tight. No gaps, no questions, no chance for escape. But the truth has a way of slipping through, especially when a fearless public defender takes the stand. In this combined episode — Parts 1 and 2 brought together — we follow our fellow public defenders as they dismantle the state's so-called "airtight" story. Every witness who thought they were backing up the prosecution's narrative stumbled under sharp cross-examination. Every detail the state insisted was proof of guilt came undone, exposed as sloppy, incomplete, or outright misleading. What the state tried to package as justice turned out to be nothing but a messy zipper snag — and the defender was ready with the scissors. The comedy comes in watching the state scramble to explain their unraveling theory, while the tragedy lies in how close the system came to convicting someone on patchwork evidence. By combining the two parts into one episode, the full scope of the defender's strategy shines: from the first objection to the last word before the jury, it's a master class in fearless advocacy. And when the verdict came, it wasn't guilt — it was vindication. Another powerful reminder that even when the system tries to stitch up the innocent, a relentless public defender can tear through the seams. Live at Penn: Uncle Biggie, Uncle Smalls, and a Whole Lot of Doubt

At a live taping of Another Not Guilty, we head to Penn Carey Law for a case that had everything: a chaotic family dispute, a single gunshot, and three witnesses who somehow couldn’t agree on what actually happened. When 19-year-old Angel was charged with attempted murder and facing decades in prison, the case seemed straightforward—until the stories started changing. With no defense witnesses, no experts, and hundreds of hours of bodycam footage, Delco public defender Anna Hinchman built her case on one simple idea: if no one can tell the same story twice, how can you prove anything beyond a reasonable doubt? Featuring Uncle Biggie, Uncle Smalls, a mysterious pair of gloves, and a staircase that heard more than anyone saw, this live episode is a perfect example of how doubt isn’t just reasonable—it’s everything. Proof Beyond a Reasonable Printout

In this episode of Another Not Guilty, the hosts are joined by public defender Lauren Hillary to break down a case that should terrify anyone who believes evidence still matters. The state charged Lauren’s client with 13 felony sex offenses, including counts carrying multiple life sentences—based largely on printed email notifications allegedly tied to Twitter messages that did not exist. No corroborating DMs. No forensic proof. No investigation of the home. Just screenshots, assumptions, and a year of pretrial incarceration in Mississippi’s broken system. This is a story about fake evidence, real consequences, and what it takes to stop the system from steamrolling an innocent person. Printing something doesn’t make it true. 🎙️ Another Not Guilty tells the untold stories of public defenders fighting back—one case at a time. Believe No One: Discrediting the Client's Confession

Defense attorney Ryan Sullivan out of Massachusetts casts doubt on his own client's confession to win an acquittal on all charges in a gun possession case. The defendant — a young shoe salesman who had been shot six times — faced a mandatory 1.5-year minimum sentence under Massachusetts's draconian gun laws that punished possessing a firearm for protection that was clearly needed. Ryan masterfully unravels the prosecution's case and challenges the reliability of the confession itself, turning what seemed like a sure conviction into a complete not guilty. ⚖️ Bold lawyering. The ABCs of CYA – A fearless defender exposes a cop cover up and saves his client from life

When off-duty officers turn a botched investigation into a full-blown "cover your ass" operation, an innocent man suddenly finds himself facing life in prison for attempted murder. Enter Stanford Fraser, a sharp, fearless public defender from Prince George's County, Maryland, who refuses to let bad police work and lazy assumptions destroy a client's future. From the jump, Stanford digs into the cracks in the state's case, exposing contradictions, sloppy testimony, and the real motive behind the prosecution's push: protecting cops instead of pursuing justice. With trial barreling forward, Stanford keeps his client calm, steady, and focused—even as the weight of life imprisonment looms. Then comes the turning point: right before closing arguments, Stanford finds the moment to blow the case wide open. The "truth" the police tried to sell collapses under scrutiny. Jurors see the lies for what they are, and the not-guilty verdict rings out like a hammer of justice. This is public defense at its boldest. It's not just about one man's freedom—it's about exposing how institutions bend reality to cover their own mistakes, and how only a relentless defender standing tall in court can stop the injustice. Told with wit, grit, and a courtroom edge, this episode proves once again that when defenders fight, freedom wins. The Couple That Stands Their Ground Together Gets Charged Together

In this episode, defense attorney Andrew Darling tells the story of a case where love, loyalty, and self-defense collided in the courtroom. His client was charged with murder after her girlfriend shot and killed an attacker who came after them both. The state tried to twist survival into crime, but Andrew dismantled their theory, showing the jury exactly why self-defense applied. Against long odds and high stakes, he secured the only verdict that honored the truth: not guilty. It's a case that reminds us the law isn't always ready for the realities of real life — but that's why defenders fight. Glove Gaslight: When the Witness Doubles Down – Shutting Down a Lineup of Lies

In this episode, Cincinnati public defenders Max and Molly take us inside a case where their client was wrongfully accused of voyeurism. The prosecution lined up witness after witness, each ready to double down on shaky stories — but Max and Molly weren't having it. Through sharp cross-examinations and airtight trial strategy, they exposed the flaws, contradictions, and gaslighting at the heart of the state's case. By the time the jury saw the truth, there was only one verdict left: not guilty. It's a case that proves even when the state throws the whole witness bench at you, the right defense can knock it all down. Party Marty, Not So Smarty! – When Closing Arguments Seal the Deal

Take a listen as Glen Oh from the Neighborhood Defender Service of Detroit shares one of his standout trials. His client was falsely accused of assaulting his ex-lover on several occasions, but the case quickly turned into a circus. The police did zero investigation, the prosecutor pulled every trick in the book, and the courtroom was packed with shenanigans. Glen cut through the nonsense with sharp advocacy and delivered a closing argument so good other defenders could borrow it for their own trials. The result? A clean not guilty across the board. Because sometimes the best defense against chaos is a defender who knows how to own the jury box. In this episode, Los Angeles Public Defender Felipe Gonzalez shares the story of his client, a man falsely accused and staring down an eight-count indictment that carried a possible 45-year sentence. It all came down to one witness: his client. With fearless advocacy, Felipe ran an all-or-nothing defense, putting his client on the stand to tell the truth. And the jury believed him. The result? When Due Process Freezes Over – ICE Snatches a Defendant Mid-Trial

What happens when the government literally rips your client away in the middle of a jury trial? Defense attorney Murat Erkan shares one of the most shocking stories we've heard: his client was abducted by ICE agents during trial, depriving him of his right to a jury trial and due process. The prosecution pushed forward, the judge let it happen, and the system showed just how cold it can be. This case is a sobering reminder that constitutional rights aren't always protected — and that sometimes defenders are fighting not just the charges, but the very machinery of the state. Mother Knows Worst – When Family Drama Meets the Courtroom

Family ties can twist into courtroom lies. In this episode, a public defender walks us through a case where a mother's accusations nearly cost her own child their freedom. The prosecution thought "mom knows best" would be enough to win the jury — but when the defense peeled back the layers, it turned out mother knows worst. With relentless advocacy and a sharp eye for the truth, the defender exposed the contradictions and bias driving the state's case, and the jury returned the only verdict that fit: not guilty. It's messy, it's dramatic, and it's proof that not even family drama can outweigh reasonable doubt.
