What Does The Bible Have To Say About Politics? | 12Stone Church
In this message, we look at what the Bible teaches about politics, government, and how followers of Jesus should navigate political conversations while keeping their allegiance to King Jesus above everything else. Politics can be one of the most divisive topics in our culture. Between political parties, elections, controversial issues, and disagreements with people we love, it’s easy to allow politics to shape our identity, relationships, and priorities. But Scripture reminds us that our ultimate allegiance isn’t to a political party, candidate, or nation. It’s to Jesus. When we seek first God’s Kingdom, we begin to understand that our faith should shape our politics, not the other way around. Jesus isn’t on the left or the right. He is above all things, and His Kingdom is the foundation on which we build our lives. You’ll learn how to: • Put your allegiance to King Jesus above political parties and candidates • Understand the biblical roles and responsibilities of government and the Church • Navigate political disagreements while loving your neighbor • Approach controversial political issues through the lens of Scripture • Understand what the Bible teaches about justice, immigration, human life, and caring for others • Approach voting with biblical wisdom, prayer, and trust in God’s sovereignty • Recognize when politics has taken priority over your relationship with Jesus In Matthew 6:33, Jesus calls us to seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness. This doesn’t mean politics are unimportant. It means that nothing should take the place of Jesus as the foundation of our lives. Throughout Scripture, we see that God established distinct responsibilities for government and the Church. Romans 13 explains the role of governing authorities, while Matthew 28 reminds us that the Church is called to make disciples, share the Gospel, and lead people to Jesus. As followers of Jesus, our responsibility isn’t to withdraw from political conversations but to approach them with biblical truth, love, and humility. We can engage in politics, vote according to our convictions, and care about the future of our nation without allowing those things to become our ultimate source of hope. Philippians 3:20 reminds us that our citizenship is in heaven. Political leaders, governments, and elections will come and go, but the Kingdom of God is eternal. Our hope isn’t found in who wins an election or which political party holds power. Our hope is found in the King who reigns above it all.
