The October Issue: Teresa Palmer, Male Advocates & The Longevity Boom

What does it really mean to be a woman today? Is progress making life easier, or are we just facing a new set of challenges? This episode discusses domestic violence and other strong themes. Please know support is available, contact Lifeline on 13 11 14 for 24/7 crisis support, 1800RESPECT on 1800 737 732 for domestic, family and sexual violence support. In this special October Issue episode of You're Gonna Want To Hear This, Marie Claire Editor Georgie McCourt and Deputy Editor Mel Gaudron dive into the stories shaping this month's issue, from the realities of growing up as a girl in the age of social media to the men working to end violence against women. They unpack the pressures facing girls today, including online safety, body image, digital culture and the growing influence of misogynistic online communities. They also discuss the mental load women carry at home, asking what would happen if mums simply stopped doing everything, and whether "doing less" might actually be the key to a happier family. The episode also explores the booming longevity industry and why ageing has become the latest frontier for wellness marketing. Georgie and Mel question whether biohacking, supplements and expensive treatments are really helping us live longer, or simply giving us another impossible standard to chase. Plus, they discuss one of the most astonishing true stories featured in the issue: an adopted woman who reunites with her biological father, only for the relationship to take an unexpected turn. And they celebrate cover star Teresa Palmer, who opens up about motherhood, ambition, self-belief and landing the biggest role of her career at 40. Whatchu Talkin Bout Gillis | 457

Shane Gillis went on SNL, said women at the gym dress like whores, and the internet hasn't shut up since. John plays the backlash clip by clip: a TikToker who ties the joke to the Cornell 7, a former Chicago stand-up explaining why it "isn't a joke," a guy calling it a litmus test for men, and a woman who takes the fight to the men at the gym. Then there's a Jeff Dye bit from 2008 that had women clapping, Travis Kelce's like, and a rooftop full of Cornell 7 protesters screaming "shame." Then Kate reads Trump's marathon post begging Texas to back Ken Paxton, and DHS shows up at Ilhan Omar's house. So who actually got the joke wrong? Topics Covered: - Shane Gillis's SNL monologue: did the people mad about it hear what he actually said? - Jeff Dye's 2008 Last Comic Standing gym bit had the women in the crowd clapping. What changed? - The TikTok pile-on: a former Chicago stand-up, a "litmus test for men," and a guy who says being offensive takes no talent. Do any of them land? - A woman tells half-dressed men at the gym to cover up. How does the bumblebee guy take it? - Booty shorts, Lululemon, and a $150 sports bra. Does the Duchess own a pair? - Travis Kelce liked the monologue, and Jason Kelce is in trouble over the Washington Redskins. Who's next? - Cornell 7: Protesters scream "shame" from a rooftop. What does the Duchess make of it? - Hilary Swank is 52 and pregnant again after twins at 48. Would John do it? - Trump Tweet read by Kate: a marathon post for Ken Paxton against James Talarico, plus the Dubai fireworks video. Does Paxton hold Texas? - DHS raids Ilhan Omar's home over her immigration paperwork, and Rashida Tlaib calls it a fascist police state. Where do John and the Duchess land? - Live-streaming an execution. Who does the Duchess blame? - Trump, Putin, diesel, and a DOJ report of hundreds of billions in fraud. What's John's fix? - Can't-Miss (Usually Misses) NFL picks: John's sitting at 7-16-2. Who's he riding this week? - The Duchess renames her fantasy team Scatterboobs. Did it help? - Dean calls in with a question for the Duchess. Does she get it? - The Duchess is second in her Top Host division. Can the Bunker push her through? Ep 72: Rosa Harrison said

🎙️ What's This Episode About? Rosa Harrison is a Liverpool-based singer, professional vocalist and queer mum to a four-year-old, recorded at home just before a gig, in a flat that John describes as having very much fallen down a rabbit hole into Wonderland. She is exactly as warm, funny and disarmingly honest as that setting suggests. Rosa joins John to talk about her journey as a performer, from open mics and function gigs to finding her own voice as a slow, jazzy acoustic artist who takes songs people know and makes them feel like something entirely her own. They get into the realities of the gigging life, what it takes to balance a creative career with being a parent, and why original music has been calling her back lately, with some Kraken songs waiting to be written, as she puts it. There's also a really candid conversation about identity. Rosa talks openly about navigating the straight to bi to lesbian pipeline, the biphobia she has encountered along the way, and the experience of having her sexuality questioned by the people closest to her even after being clear about who she is. She is thoughtful about it without being precious, and honest about how much her queer friendships have meant to her through all of it. They also cover the Queer Student Awards, where Rosa performed at what turned out to be its final night in its current form, and why that room felt so special. Plus a very good story about singing Pink Pony Club at a lesbian wedding, and a bride's dad who absolutely knew every word. It's warm, genuine, and very easy company for half an hour. Follow Rosa on Instagram at @rosaharrison. 🗣️ Why Listen? Money can be a source of stress, confusion and avoidance, but what if being good with money wasn’t just about building wealth but an act of self-care? This week, Marie Claire Australia Editor Georgie McCourt is joined by financial adviser, author and SugarMamma founder Canna Campbell to talk about money mindset, financial freedom and how taking control of your finances can be a powerful way of taking care of yourself. Canna shares practical advice on setting specific financial goals, creating a simple budget, spending intentionally, and building additional income streams. They also discuss superannuation, investing, income protection, the gender retirement gap and FIRE (Financial Independence, Retire Early). Plus, how childhood beliefs can shape our relationship with money, why social media can distort our perception of wealth, how couples can have better conversations about finances, why decluttering can reveal more about our spending habits, and the one financial task Canna says you should stop putting off.
