Episope 168: Japan Is Calling, Foo with Mini Foo & Professor G
transcript
show notes
What happens when your daughter starts dreaming about Japan, and a conversation about anime, Pokémon, food, and culture turns into a reminder about what really matters in life?
Mini Foo joins me for a conversation about her dream trip to Japan, and we hear from Professor G about his experiences traveling through Tokyo, navigating its incredible train system, and discovering why Japan keeps calling him back.
Professor G has visited Japan four times, and each trip has given him something new to appreciate. From hunting down records and Japanese denim to exploring the city on public transportation without relying on his phone, he approaches travel as both an adventure and a personal challenge.
But the moment that stuck with me most was his trip with his father. Sitting together at a rooftop bar in Shinjuku, overlooking the Tokyo skyline, he asked his dad what he wanted to do during the trip. His father's answer was simple: it wasn't about the itinerary. He just wanted to spend time with his son.
That's the kind of story that reminds you what travel can really mean.
We talk about Japanese culture, anime and Pokémon, Chicano style and cultural crossover, navigating Tokyo, travel adventures, and the importance of spending time with the people you love.
Sometimes the destination is amazing, but the person standing next to you is what makes the memory last.
