Margaret Cox and Cherylee Nowlan Masters
On December 19, 1996, Margaret Cox was last seen near the Big Oyster service station on the Pacific Highway in Taree, New South Wales. What happened next would leave her family searching for answers for decades. Nearly four years later, on September 22, 2000, Cherylee Nowlan Masters was last seen on Albert Street in Taree. She told friends she planned to travel to the Maitland area, but her movements after that remain unclear. Years later, the investigation into William Tyrrell’s disappearance would bring troubling information about both cases to light that has people wondering if a serial killer could be connected. In October 1989, 10-year-old Amy Mihaljevic began receiving phone calls from a man who claimed to work with her mom. This man told Amy that her mom had received a promotion at work, and he needed Amy's help picking out a gift. They arranged to meet up and Amy was never seen alive again. Despite an extensive investigation with tens of thousands of hours spent on leads and potential suspects, her case remains unsolved to this day. However, in the fall of 2024, investigators say they have brand new evidence that they hope will finally lead to answers. Karlie Lain Gusé was 16 years old when she was last seen in the Chalfant Valley area of Mono County, California, on the morning of October 13, 2018. She is white with dark blonde hair and blue eyes. At the time of her disappearance, she was 5’7” and weighed approximately 110lbs. Karlie’s left nostril is pierced. The FBI is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to Karlie. William Tyrrell Part 4
Seven years after William Tyrrell disappeared, detectives told his foster mother they knew where he was. But they hadn’t found him. They were accusing her of concealing his body, an allegation she denied. In the final installment of this series, we follow the investigation’s renewed focus on William’s foster mother, the secret recordings, the searches, and the legal battles that brought the police theory under scrutiny. We return to the morning William disappeared to examine what the evidence supports and the questions that remain unanswered. Ariana Ptarcinski
On Christmas Day in 2021, 18-year-old Ariana Ptarcinski suffered a fatal stab wound at her family’s home in Spring Hill, Florida. She died the following day. Her death was ruled a homicide, but in August 2023, prosecutors declined to file criminal charges, citing what they described as insufficient evidence of criminal intent. For this bonus episode of Voices for Justice, I’m joined by Aaron from the Generation Why podcast. Aaron has been speaking with Ariana’s father, Ed, and takes the lead as we discuss the circumstances surrounding her death, the questions her family has raised about the investigation, and their efforts to get justice. William Tyrrell Part 2
A tip about a washing machine repairman gave investigators a name to pursue in William Tyrrell’s disappearance. But as scrutiny of Bill Spedding intensified, the evidence supporting his alibi raised questions about the direction of the investigation. In part two, I examine why police focused on Spedding, what happened when they investigated him, and how their attention shifted toward William’s foster grandmother’s neighbor, Paul Savage. We follow Detective Gary Jubelin’s efforts to test his theories, including an operation involving a decoy Spider Man suit left along a bush trail. As investigators returned to the surrounding bushland for another extensive search, one question remained central: Had William wandered away, or was someone else responsible for his disappearance? William Tyrrell was last seen on September 12, 2014, at his foster grandmother’s home on Benaroon Drive in Kendall, New South Wales, Australia. He was three years old when he disappeared and would be 15 years old as of September 2026. William is white, with straight brown hair and hazel eyes. He has a large, dark freckle on the top left side of his head, approximately five centimeters, or two inches, behind his hairline. He was wearing a Spider Man costume when he disappeared. On September 12, 2014, three-year-old William Tyrrell disappeared while playing at his foster grandmother’s home on Benaroon Drive in Kendall, New South Wales, Australia. Within hours, an enormous search was underway. Police, emergency services, and members of the community combed the surrounding bushland, creeks, roads, and properties looking for the little boy. But William was nowhere to be found. In Part One of this series, we go back to the beginning. We examine William’s life before his disappearance, the events of that morning, the frantic search that followed, and the earliest stages of an investigation that would become one of Australia’s most well-known missing child cases. Shari Lynn Roth
In August of 1977, 22 year old Shari Lynn Roth left her apartment in North Conway, New Hampshire, for a short afternoon hike. She was supposed to arrive at the teen program where she worked by seven o’clock that evening, but she never showed up. Three days later, Shari was found murdered in the White Mountains. Nearly 50 years later, Shari’s case remains unsolved. Investigators are hoping brand new pictures, old hiking logs, memories from the trail, and information about a red Volkswagen Beetle could finally lead them to the person responsible. This episode examines the search for Shari, an investigation that appears to have exhausted its leads within its first year, and the questions that remain about whether she encountered a stranger, someone she knew, or someone familiar with the work she was doing in North Conway. Shari’s family is offering a $25,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction. The Next Chapter: Kara Robinson Chamberlain

Since Kara’s first appearance in 2022, she has co-created and hosted Survivor’s Guide to True Crime, helped shape a scripted film about her life, worked on a documentary exploring ethics in true crime, and stepped into a new role as the host and investigator of Somebody Knows Something. Fifteen-year-old Sophie Reeder vanished in the early hours of May 20, 2017. In her bedroom, a candle was still burning. Three hundred dollars was left behind. On her calendar, one date had been marked with a mysterious “X.” Surveillance cameras captured Sophie walking alone along Davie Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Hours later, her phone went silent at a nearby apartment complex and Sophie was never seen again. On the morning of March 9, 1996, Amberly Mendoza was found murdered in her bedroom in Yuma, Arizona. She was just 10 years old. Her family’s home had been filled with people following a birthday celebration, yet someone was able to reach Amberly, sexually assault her, take her life, and leave without being identified. Thirty years later, investigators have DNA believed to belong to her killer. So why has no one been held accountable? The FBI is now offering a reward of up to $30,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction. Shelley Sikes
On May 24, 1986, nineteen-year-old Shelley Sikes left work at Gaido’s Seafood Restaurant in Galveston and began driving toward her boyfriend’s home. She never arrived. Witnesses saw a pickup force her car off the road, and her Ford Pinto was discovered hours later with the driver’s window shattered and her belongings still inside. Two men were ultimately convicted of aggravated kidnapping, but Shelley’s case is not closed. She has never been found, and both men died in prison without providing information that brought her home. Investigators have made it clear that the case will remain open until Shelley is found. Shelley was 4 feet 11 inches tall and weighed approximately 90 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. She has a scar on her right knee and was unable to bend her right index finger. Marquis Martin
In February 2020, 26-year-old Marquis Martin disappeared after working a night shift at his second job. For nearly a month, his family, friends, and community searched for him, pleading for answers and for help from law enforcement. When Marquis was finally found, it was the worst possible outcome: he had been murdered. But as his loved ones pushed for justice, they were forced to confront another painful question. A racist image connected to the sheriff’s own son began circulating, raising serious concerns about whether Marquis’ case was handled with the urgency, care, and impartiality it deserved. Six years later, no arrests have been made. No persons of interest have been publicly identified. And Marquis’ family is still waiting for answers.
