Biases and Fallacies and Heuristics, Oh My!

Hype—any hype, but in this instance tech hype—only works because humans are fallible. We fall prey to quirks of the mind, real-world hacks which dilute our rational thinking and cause us to sink into a mire cynically crafted for us by bad actors who are more than willing to manipulate and trick others for their own gain. In this episode, I will explain to you some of these mind games: the heuristics, biases, and fallacies which are difficult for us to escape…even when we're being thoughtful and critical ourselves. Yes, China is getting ready to crack down on so-called "digital humans", requiring proper labeling as such as well as forbidding any deepfakes based on real people without their informed consent.
