Eliphaz has been here before. He was the first to speak after the seven days of silence, the first to reach into his night vision and pull out the theology that has been driving all three friends since chapter four. He spoke with the authority of family and the weight of a genuine spiritual encounter, however misidentified its source. He stepped back while Bildad and Zophar took their turns. And now he is back. But the man who returns in chapter fifteen is not the careful, diplomatic, grief-softened Eliphaz who opened with a tribute to Job's past ministry before delivering his diagnosis.
