Is Abraham More Merciful Than God? | Genesis 18
Abraham walks God to the road, then blocks his path. Sodom and Gomorrah’s sins are deafening. God is going down to see. Abraham starts at fifty righteous people and will not stop until ten. This week on Beers with Jesus, Todd and Carrie read Genesis 18:16–33 (The Message) and sit with the strange picture of Abraham interceding for a city he already knows is rotten. He rescued Sodom once for Lot. He refused its spoil. Now he asks the Judge of all the earth whether the good get swept away with the bad. We talk about mercy and justice side by side, talking to God like a friend, what it means to stand in the gap, and why Abraham looks for a minute more merciful than God—until you set him next to the cross. Also: a little on why this whole cultural mess grieves more than it solves, Steve Gregg on the kingdom, and why discipleship is mostly attempts and failures. Next week: Sodom and Gomorrah. Todd’s World: toddsworld.net Books, Wildly Opinionated News Hour, and past Beers episodes are there. Genesis 18:16–33. Abraham. Sodom. Intercession. Mercy. Judgment. #BeersWithJesus #Genesis18 #Abraham
