How Do You Know When You’re Finally Healed From Trauma?
Hey Thrive Community! 💛 This is a question I get asked all the time: “Brooke, how do I know when I’m finally healed from trauma?” And my answer might surprise you... I don't think healing is about reaching a point where you never get triggered again. Healing isn't a finish line. It's not about becoming someone who never feels anxious, overwhelmed, angry, sad, or activated. For me, healing has been about awareness, capacity, and trust in myself. It's being able to experience a trigger and recognize: “Okay. I know what's happening here.” “I know how to support myself through this.” “I've been here before, and I know I'm going to be okay on the other side.” That shift is HUGE. In this episode of Thrive Like a Parent, I'm getting honest about my own healing journey and what I've learned about trauma recovery, nervous system regulation, emotional healing, and personal growth. The work doesn't simply stop. I am absolutely more healed today than I was one, two, or five years ago. But I also love who I am right now. And I genuinely look forward to meeting the version of myself I'll become a year from now. That's part of the beauty of healing. You don't have to rush it. You don't have to force yourself to “get over” what happened. You don't have to become perfectly regulated. You can heal slowly, imperfectly, and in your own time. As we grow and gain experience, we can become more comfortable in our own skin. We can become more confident in our choices, more aware of our needs, and less consumed by what other people think. And that's healing, too. 🌿 In this episode, we'll explore: What trauma healing actually looks like in everyday life How to recognize your progress after trauma The connection between trauma and nervous system regulation How awareness can change the way you respond to triggers Why healing doesn't mean you'll never feel triggered How to build trust in your ability to support yourself Why it's okay for healing to take time If you're somewhere in the middle of your own healing journey, I want you to know that you're not behind. Take the pressure off. Notice how far you've already come. And trust that you don't have to have the entire journey figured out today. 🎧 Listen to this episode of Thrive Like a Parent for a deeper conversation about trauma healing, nervous system regulation, emotional regulation, self-awareness, and learning to trust yourself again. 💛 If this resonates with you, subscribe to Thrive Like a Parent, leave a review, and share this episode with someone who may need the reminder that healing doesn't have to happen all at once. Your healing journey is yours. Go slow. Give yourself grace. And keep going.
