Stop Binding the Devil

Have we been “binding the devil” with a verse that isn’t actually talking about binding the devil? 👀 In this episode of Victory U: Biblical Misconceptions, Dr. David Eadie breaks down one of the most quoted, and often misunderstood, statements of Jesus: “Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.” — Matthew 16:19 What did Jesus actually mean by binding and loosing? What are the keys of the Kingdom? And was Jesus really giving Christians a formula for verbally binding Satan? We’ll unpack the Jewish context, the Greek grammar, Matthew 18, church authority, spiritual warfare, and Jesus’ teaching about binding the strong man in Matthew 12. And here’s where it gets good, Jesus wasn’t telling believers how to bind the strong man, He was showing them that HE is the stronger Man who had already bound him. We don’t fight for Christ’s victory, We live and fight FROM Christ’s victory. 🔥 In this episode: • What “binding and loosing” actually meant • The meaning of the keys of the Kingdom • Why earth doesn’t command heaven • Matthew 16 vs. Matthew 18 • What Jesus meant by “binding the strong man” • Why spiritual warfare is still real • How Christ has already defeated the powers of darkness • The difference between delegated authority and spiritual manipulation • How believers should actually resist the devil The keys are in our hands, but the Kingdom still belongs to the King.
