"The Original Muppet Movie is like Magic" with Comedian ⁨Chris Thorburn
This month on They'll Love Me When I'm Dead, we have the Muppets with Stand-up Comic, Chris Thorburn. Rob, Andy & Christ look at the drugged up original, the Muppet Movie, the Christmas stalwart The Muppet Christmas Carol and the most recent outing, Muppets Most Wanted. Although, we have to say its working title is far better... Muppets Again. We talk about how it fits the same mould of wholesome celebrity filled comedy for the whole family, a spot that also holds The Simpsons. There's also plenty of chatter about the magic of the Show, just what where the Electric Mayhem partaking in, and seriously, we have to flag those cameos twice - they are incredible, for both good and bad reasons. Our Patreon delivers a load of extra content, with a bonus episode of our sister podcast, Pop Screen, every month. There's also Graham's self-explanatory The Arts Hole podcast, weekly articles about The Twilight Zone and Doctor Who, plus our end-of-month round-up show Last Night... Follow us on Bluesky, Instagram, Twitter and Facebook to keep up to date. Also, next month on Patreon, we are doing Hellraiser. Quite the 180, huh? www.patreon.com/thegeekshow

Robert Pattinson Was Onto Something: Piggy, Humanist Vampire & Inhuman Kiss
This week on the Uncut Podcast, we return to genres uncut — although calling this one a “genre” might be a stretch… but since when has that ever stopped us? Okay, fine. It is technically a genre. Rob is joined by Emma and Rabia to talk Teen Romance Horror Movies — but not just any old examples. We’re talking about films that make a complete mockery of the famously infamous Twilight saga. (Hated by its own cast is only the beginning of its sins.) To show Stephanie Meyer how it’s really done, Rabia curated three films from around the world that take the teen‑horror‑romance formula and actually do something interesting with it. From Thailand, we have Sitisiri Mongkolsiri’s Krasue: Inhuman Kiss (2019). From Canada, Ariane Louis‑Seize’s inimitable Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person (2023). And rounding out our world‑cinema trio, Spain’s Carlota Pereda brings the ferocious Piggy (2022). Next on the podcast is our annual FrightFest Review Special. And if you want something more traditional, you can support us on Patreon where you’ll get three bonus podcasts: Last Night, detailing our monthly viewing habits; Graham of Pop Screen’s gloriously chaotic Arts Hole; and my and Andy’s They’ll Love Me When I’m Dead, which this month dives into Spider‑Man in all his multiversal guises. Follow me across social media at @Uncutrobcast, and The Geek Show at @TGS_thegeekshow, to keep up with all the comings and goings.

Eerie Indiana, the ship that launched a million fandoms - The Joe Dante Episode!
On the latest episode of Uncut, Rob is Joined by Rabia, Kat and Robyn to talk about the work of Master of Horror Joe Dante. Of the movies we covered, we looked at Dante's take on the nerdy romantic comedy with Burying the Ex, starring the late great Anton Yelchin, and (yes, she can be 40 and look that good) Alexandra Daddario. That one is as much of a love letter to Los Angeles as it is anything else. We head over to Indiana, USA, Eerie, Indiana, to be exact for a TV show that was a pivotal point in the lives of so many millennials turned horror fans. Also, as this rewatch revealed, it's far more mature and intelligent in its thoughts than we ever thought as kids. Then, we end with the greatest horror sequel of all time, Gremlins 2. If I say anything else, I wouldn't really be doing this slice of fried gold anarchy. For more from Rob, including his upcoming second short film, follow him at @Uncutrobcast on Bsky, Instagram & Letterboxd.

Evil Dead - They’ll Love Me When I’m Dead 3
Rob and Andy return to They’ll Love Me When I’m Dead for a full deep‑dive into the Evil Dead franchise — from Sam Raimi’s DIY classic to the modern reboots and the newest, most divisive entry. They’re joined by Sam Munster from the Horror Hyperfixations podcast to talk The Evil Dead, the 2013 Evil Dead, Evil Dead Rise, and the latest instalment, Evil Dead Burn. Expect chat about Raimi’s chaotic slapstick horror, the series’ trademark Deadite humour, the shift toward extreme violence, and why one of the hosts (hi, it’s Rob) absolutely did not vibe with the newest film. For more episodes of They’ll Love Me When I’m Dead, which is on a monthly rotation with Graham from Pop Screen’s Arts Hole, subscribe to The Geek Show’s Patreon. Our latest bonus episode covers Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles — and yes, Rob watched it as a kid and thought they had always been “Ninja Heroes.” The more you know.

Álex de la Iglesia: The Smartest Man Making the Stupidest Movies (Uncut Podcast, Directors Uncut)
After six months away from this style of episode, we’re finally back — and we’ve returned with a filmmaker who makes “easing in gently” completely impossible. This week, Álex de la Iglesia takes centre stage, Rob is joined by Graham and Aidan, as we dive into the wild, maximalist world of a director who might genuinely be the smartest man making the stupidest movies. If you’ve never seen Witching & Bitching, The Day of the Beast or Mutant Action, don’t worry — this episode is built for newcomers as much as long‑time fans, and it’s the perfect gateway into Spanish genre cinema at its most chaotic and inventive. For listeners who love discovering new filmmakers, exploring cult cinema, or falling down rabbit holes of international genre film, this conversation opens the door to a director whose work feels seconds away from exploding at any moment. We talk about why de la Iglesia’s films operate on the edge of hysteria, how he blends satire, horror, slapstick and social commentary, and why a death scene involving full SpongeBob SquarePants cosplay somehow makes perfect sense in his universe. Along the way we draw unexpected lines between his work and the traditions of Polish satirists, Terry Gilliam, Takashi Miike, Dick Maas and other filmmakers who treat cinema as a playground for excess. It’s not a serious podcast, but it’s not a joke either — just a lively, affectionate, occasionally bewildered look at a filmmaker who refuses to be normal. Whether you’ve never heard of Álex de la Iglesia or you’ve seen everything he’s ever made, this episode pulls you into his world: the spectacle, the satire, the chaos, the craft, and the strange brilliance of a director who might be too smart for the films he chooses to make. And honestly, that’s exactly what makes him great.

Universal Soldier – They’ll Love Me When I’m Dead 2
A little later than planned, They’ll Love Me When I’m Dead returns for this month’s free episode with Irish Comedian Ryan Cullen in tow. Andy, Rob and Ryan look at Universal Soldier, specifically the Jean‑Claude Van Damme entries: the 1992 Roland Emmerich original, 1999’s The Return, and John Hyams’s 2009 Regeneration and the threat to all sufferers of epilepsy that is the acclaimed Day of Reckoning from 2012. We spoil these movies in totality, so don’t go in expecting a considered analysis of these deeply goofy and inconsistent movies. We are discussing them with a comedian after all — if we took these movies seriously here, we’d be doing it wrong. In the next episode of They’ll Love Me When I’m Dead, we are heading over to The Geek Show Patreon, so subscribe there for more. Blade - They'll Love Me When I'm Dead 1
Hello and Welcome to a Brand New Podcast featuring Rob and Andy called They'll Love Me When I'm Dead - a reference to the nature of franchise films, the subject matter of this new pod. I won't go too deep into the reeds about how this podcast works, as it's discussed in the podcast but in essence there will be 6 free episodes and 6 paid for episodes a year. This first one is a freebie for both the Patreon feed and the uncut podcast feed. Whichever one you are seeing this on, please subscribe to the other. THE GEEK SHOW'S PATREON IS HERE In this first episode we discuss the Blade movies, how pivotal they are to us and individuals and to Marvel as a company, plus there frankly bonkers internal mythology. Just how many times does Whistler need to be killed for it to stick? And we finish by talking about how underutilised the character of Blade is. Plenty more is coming soon from They'll Love Me When I'm Dead, so, thank you for checking out this first episode.

Uncut Presents: FX Maestro Dan Martin on Bad Taste, Parents & F – Practical Effects, Horror Classics & Creative Influences
Welcome back to Uncut—a little later than planned, but we’re thrilled to finally launch Uncut Presents, a brand‑new series where we invite a filmmaker to explore three films that shaped them: one that influenced them, one they love, and one of their own. Our debut guest is Dan Martin, the FX wizard behind Possessor, Color Out of Space, Infinity Pool, In the Earth, and countless other genre favorites. Dan sits down with us to break down three wildly different films: Bad Taste (Peter Jackson, 1987) – the low‑budget splatter classic that inspired a generation of DIY filmmakers. Parents (Bob Balaban, 1989) – a darkly comic, underappreciated gem that Dan loves. F (Johannes Roberts, 2010) – a taut British horror from Dan’s own filmography. This episode is the full, uncut conversation—available now in audio on Spotify. Prefer to watch? Head over to The Geek Show on YouTube, where the video version has been split into three standalone episodes, one per film, so you can dive deep into each movie at your own pace. Coming next: another first—They’ll Love Me When I’m Dead, a new franchise‑based podcast. There’s too much to squeeze into one description, so stay tuned. Follow the Geek Show on Instagram, BlueSky, Twitter and Facebook to keep up to date with all the happenings on Uncut and Beyond.

The Most Famous Cheek Implants In Japan: Joe Shishido (Detective Bureau, A Colt is my Passport, Massacre Gun)
What does it take to become a face—a brand—in cinema? For cult icon Joe Shishido, the answer is one of film's wildest stories: he reportedly had cheek implants to make his face wider, more rugged, and utterly unforgettable. In this episode of Uncut, I'm joined by Ben (Cymreig Samurai) to unpack the myth and the movies behind Japan's most iconic tough guy. We're breaking down the trilogy of films that made him a legend: the jazz-soaked, minimalist hitman masterpiece "A Colt Is My Passport"; the explosively titled and brilliantly chaotic "Detective Bureau 2-3: Go to Hell, B&st&rds!"; and the grim, revenge-fuelled yakuza epic "Massacre Gun." We go beyond the cheeks to explore his essential collaborations with directors like Seijun Suzuki, his unique place in the Nikkatsu studio system, and why his cool, cynical persona continues to influence filmmakers today. This is Uncut—the deep dive into the icons you can't forget. 00:00:00 - Intro 00:12:07 - Detective Bureau 2.3 00:42:11 - A Colt is my Passport 01:02:05 - Massacre Gun 01:23:52 - Chitty Chat For more from the geek show, check out our website: thegeekshow.co.uk For the Patreon, visit: patreon.com/thegeekshow

In this deep-dive episode, we unpack the themes, styles, and lasting impact of his most iconic films. We start with the shocking and surreal "Dogtooth" (Κυνόδοντας), the Greek film that announced his unique talent to the world. Then, we delve into the chilling, modern Greek tragedy of "The Killing of a Sacred Deer," analysing its haunting performances from Colin Farrell and Nicole Kidman. Along the way, we discuss why Lanthimos has become a creative home for actors looking to push boundaries, his exceptional track record of creating complex, award-winning roles for women, and the recurring themes of power, control, and the absurd rules of society that define his work. Those three films are the fine aged wine of Ex Machina, the most divisive work that he'll ever produce in Men, and the forthcoming documentary of Civil War. Also, stay around till the end of the podcast when we announce what is coming up on the podcast in 2026. Until next time with Yorgos Lanthimos, thanks for watching/listening.

David Lynch basically invented Patreon - The World Just Wasn't Ready!
And with this episode on David Lynch, Series 4 of Uncut concludes. Told you it'd be shorter this time around. On this episode, Rob is joined by Lynch-lifer, Graham, to talk about Wild at Heart, The Straight Story and Inland Empire. Along the way, we touch on the connections to Satoshi Kon, the love of Mid-Western American Values, John Waters, alongside many references to Room To Dream. It's been a long time since we've had a two person show, as such it was nice to dive into our love at Lynch - albeit love on two different levels. This is the finale of Series 4, we'll be having a little break, move things around a bit - part of which includes sending our short film off into the world like a proud parent - after which we'll be back. When we do return, Series 5 will be a video podcast - so look forward to that. If you like this show, check out our PATREON, for all sorts of goodies and extras. Akira (1988) The Anime Masterpiece That Keeps on Giving
It's time for another episode of Uncut, and this time we are talking about Sci-Fi Anime of the 80s and 90s. Rob is joined by Kinell, Sarah and Rabia to talk about all things 1980s and 1990s Sci-Fi Anime. In other words, the golden age of anime and in the genre that made Japanese Animation such a big deal. Marlene Dietrich - they don't make Hollywood Stars like that any more
Uncut returns for another of our token left turns, from 80s & 90s Anime - we head to classic Hollywood in the hands of Marlene Dietrich. Rob is joined by Graham, Jimmy and Simon - three signed up Dietrich heads - to talk through the career of one of classic Hollywood's greatest leading ladies, Marlene Dietrich. To do this, we discuss her work through four films - Josef von Sternberg's The Scarlett Empress (1934), George Marshall's Comedy Western, Destry Rides Again (1939), before we finish on 1957's Witness for the Prosecution co-starring Charles Laughton and directed by the GOAT, Billy Wilder. The Renegades of 1980s & 90s Horror Anime
Welcome to the latest episode of Uncut, on which we talk about the golden age of 1980s an 90s Horror Anime. Apologies for the delays in getting this episode out, I've been directing my own short film which has taken up a lot of my time. It's called "The Last Sock You'll Ever Need", and I'll inevitably be talking about in on the pod in the coming weeks and months. This week, I am joined by Rabia, Sarah and a debuting Kinell to talk about the golden age of 1980s and 1990s anime, with a specific focus on the Horror movies produced during this phase. The conversation ebbs and flows along this theme touching on everything anime along the way, and the movies we touch are The Laughing Target (1987), Vampire Hunter D (1985) and Perfect Blue (1997). Next time out we talk about Marlene Dietrich. And if you like the podcast, please subscribing. Also, please consider subscribing and supporting us on Patreon for all sorts of exclusive goodies. Adèle Haenel: Activism, and A Portrait of a Lady on Fire
Before you can say "Is that a haunted green dress?", Uncut is back to talk about the incredible Adèle Haenel — one of the most fearless, captivating actors working today. Rob, Mike, Graham and a debuting India dive into Haenel's extraordinary career, spotlighting her performances in Deerskin (the strangest jacket you'll ever meet), The Unknown Girl (the Dardenne brothers doing what they do best), and of course, the modern classic Portrait of a Lady on Fire. And to all the Dardenne Brothers fans who listen to this episode, I really am sorry for my hilarious hijinx. We talk about Haenel’s quiet intensity, her radical off-screen choices, and the sheer power of her work. It’s a journey through French cinema, awkward jackets, mysterious doorbells, and some of the most heartbreakingly human performances you’ll ever see.
