The Shadow Syllabus

The Empire Edit

Business, psychology, and money for adult content creators building something real.
I've spent twenty years in the adult entertainment industry & the most useful things I've learned were never written down anywhere. They've existed as unspoken rules and private conversations. This podcast brings those conversations and guidelines out into an open discussion, with the goal of educating and empowering these hidden business owners.
Each episode is a focused pass at the things adult creators actually struggle with: pricing without flinching, building income that survives platform shifts, the psychology of being both your own product and an alter-ego, and what to do when the math stops working. No hustle culture. No vague inspiration. Just the unfiltered strategic thinking of someone who's played the long game from every angle and has the scar tissue to prove it.
Built for adult content creators — models, dommes, cam workers, phone operators, fanclub owners, anyone monetizing intimacy. Civilians welcome. What we talk about here is more familiar than you'd expect.

    What Happens After This?

Creators often focus on the clips they want to film next, the location of their next sub-funded vacation, or the models they'd love to collab with. But few have a plan for the day the work stops, and that day arrives whether it gets planned for or not. This episode walks through exit planning for self-employed creators in an industry that hands you an earning window shaped like no other career's: algorithm shifts, platform bans, a life that changes, a kid old enough to Google. We get into why the internet's permanence belongs in your plan from the start, how to think about your runway and the actual number you're building toward, and what a life after the work can look like, from education, to healthcare, retirement planning, and business ownership. Living below your means gets its due here too, as one of the most powerful exit tools you have. Planning the exit is what respect for the work looks like when it's done well enough to buy you a future. If you want the business underneath all of this built with intention, that's what we do inside The Empire Edit. No Free Labor!

Not every unpaid ask sounds like a request. Some of them sound like small favors; a quick clip pick, a prep question before a cam booking, a gift that shows up with a silent expectation attached. All three are labor, and I'll bet you have fallen into the habit of giving them away for free. This episode, a short companion to The Price of No, breaks down three specific patterns that cost creators real money every week, and gives a concrete, priceable offer to replace each one. Keywords: unpaid labor, pricing strategy, client requests, custom content, revenue strategy, boundaries

    The Price Of No

A client once offered me $3,000 for a custom video, on one condition; red toenails I didn't have that day. Here's the framework for turning almost any "no" into a priced yes, and the guardrail that keeps it from becoming reckless. Most of what feels like a hard no in this business is actually a solvable inconvenience that nobody's put a price on yet. This episode breaks down the difference between a real boundary and a convenience constraint, and gives you a three-move framework for turning the second kind into revenue instead of a reflexive decline. Using two real examples, this episode walks through auditing the no before you say it, pricing the actual sticking point instead of auto-declining it, and leading with the yes instead of the rejection. It also covers why this only works with a hard guardrail in place. Real boundaries, safety limits, and genuine capacity limits are never up for pricing, and the episode closes with a five-line checklist built to fit on a post-it, so you can run every request through it before you answer. Keywords: pricing psychology, client requests, boundaries, revenue strategy, custom content, negotiation

    The Courage To Be Disliked

Hate comments in this industry aren't so much a risk as an inevitability, and they can sting a little harder when what you've bared in public isn't something like your writing or your code, but your naked self and intimate soul. However - most criticism that gets to you has nothing to do with your business, although it sure can feel like it does when someone points out a flaw you're personally insecure about in front of your 50,000 fans on social media. This episode is about learning to sort what bruises your ego from what hurts your income, so you spend your energy on the feedback that could cost you, and let everything else roll off. We'll also take a look at Adlerian psychology as a defense mechanism against trolls, and how we should really be thinking about losers who spew hate online.

    Weaponizing A Scarcity Mindset

Rich bitch poverty cosplaying? Scarcity as a growth hack? Not quite. I've lived in very real scarcity, and whilst I'd wish it upon no-one, it taught me valuable lessons that are worth holding on to to manifest abundance for myself now. Keep the muscle, move to a better gym is the name of the game, and this week I'll share the 5 tools living paycheck to paycheck as a single mother instilled within me, from creative resourcefulness to cutting all waste, and provide actionable examples for how to put these in play in your own business system. This is truly what my course - The Empire Edit - was founded on. So let me tell you how I became a multi-millionaire by living like I'm poor.

    Customers, Not An Audience

You can have ten thousand people watching and still not make rent. Conflating attention with income and success is an easy trap to fall into, but it's one that will keep you from reaching your full potential. This week I pull apart the difference between the people who clap for you and the people who actually pay you, why your brain is wired to chase the wrong one, and how to rebuild your entire operation around buyers instead of spectators. An audience makes you feel famous, but customers will set you free.

    Marketing In The Margins

Every marketing course assumes you can buy an ad, state what you sell, and get found the way everyone else does. In the adult industry, we all know that isn't true. In this episode we break down why the standard playbook collapses for our industry, and what actually moves people toward you when the front door is locked. We get into how discovery works when ad spend is off the table. We look at why trust and customer retention are solid alternatives to standard funnel marketing. By the end of this episode, I want you to see the marketing constraints we face not as obstacles, but as ways to enact new strategies.

You Will Never Be Done. So Stop Trying!

More efficiency doesn't create breathing room — it just creates more to fill. In this episode, I dismantle the productivity trap and make the case for something more radical: deciding in advance what gets your time, and actually holding that line. Includes the real reason most creators can't log off, the FOMO that keeps you glued to your phone, and why working less might be the thing that finally forces your business to work without you.

    Dating With A Secret

Dating whilst working in adult entertainment comes with a specific and largely unacknowledged set of complications — the privacy logistics, the when-do-I-tell-them calculation, income disparity and all that comes with it, and the emotional labor of dismantling someone else's assumptions about who you are. In this episode, I talk honestly about what dating in this industry actually looks like, the dynamics that make it harder than it needs to be, and what I've learned about finding partnership without shrinking my life to make it easier for someone else to accept.

The Free Audit: Steal These Social Media Tips

Let me show you what I actually look at when someone hands me their page. Spoiler alert - you have to think like a horny man! Today I'm running a full social media audit live, the same one I charge for, and you can steal as many tips as you can find. I'll start at your bio and header, then move into the three pillars of marketing I've identified that make or break a creator's page. Bring a notepad!

    Not Everything Is For Sale

There's a version of you that belongs to your audience. And there's a version that doesn't...or at least; shouldn't! In this episode, I talk about emotional leakage through lack of professional boundaries, and how to navigate protecting yourself when it feels like your intimacy, vulnerability and authenticity are exactly what get you paid best.

    The Cost Of Lying Online

You're a liar! At least a little bit, and at least on occasion. The fantasy economy requires a dozen forms of untruths, bent realities and lies by omission, be it to maintain the illusion for a fan, to protect our own boundaries, as a marketing tactic, or even for physical safety. In this episode, I get into the actual neuroscience and psychology of what this might cost: why lying gets easier the more you do it, what sustained performance does to your sense of self over time, and whether the threshold for honesty in your personal life changes when deception is part of your day job. Research-backed, ruthlessly honest, and something I've never heard anyone else discuss.

Performing Wealth Instead Of Building It

The adult industry runs on illusion...and sometimes that illusion bleeds into your actual bank account. In this episode, I get forensic about lifestyle creep. Let's talk about why a good income doesn't always translate to financial security, the specific traps that keep high-earning creators broke, and how to tell the difference between spending that builds your brand and spending that just makes you look like you're winning. Practical, a little uncomfortable, and exactly what nobody in this industry wants to admit.

No One Does Things Like You

The market's not saturated & you're not late. Don't let the fear of being one of ten thousand people doing the same thing stop you from creating. Very few industries are monopolies, and yet every one thrives in its own way. Consider fitness influencers; people (often without training) shipping the same 100 exercises combined in marginally different ways and making millions building a brand around it. The content and your credentials and how many others are doing the "same thing" doesn't really matter, because no-one possibly can be doing things like YOU. In this episode we talk about imposter syndrome, feeling behind, how to be brave enough to show up authentically, and what's actually stopping your audience from finding you. The Day I Decided To Make $500K

You've been doing this for years and your income hasn't really increased. You call it stuck, blame it on oversaturation, or tell yourself that "this is just your ceiling". I call BS! Barring extenuating circumstances, I think you're CHOOSING to make the money you make, and no more. If that makes you angry - hear me out! In a bizarre creator industry where the sky is the limit, the only thing that determines the rate you're paid is first your mindset and then the systems that are built on those beliefs (or not). Once you get a little delulu and decide to write yourself a different story, you're forced to reverse engineer to fill that gap and all of a sudden, more is available to you. In this episode I tell you the story of December 2019, when I woke up and "just decided" I was going to double my income from $250K to $500K the next year. Yeah...THAT year (spoiler alert; I did it nearly effortlessly). I share this, along with actionable questions to help you catch the passive decisions you might be making too, so that you can propel yourself forward to wherever you really want to be, not where an invisible ceiling decides you are. Welcome To The Shadow Syllabus

Welcome to The Shadow Syllabus. Before the show really begins, here's what this is, who it's for, and why it exists. For twenty years I've worked in the adult entertainment industry. Everything I learned about business, branding, money, psychology, boundaries, and self-worth, I learned in private conversations, hidden forums and through trial and error. Adult creators don't get business school. We don't get HR departments or networks of mentors. We figure it out by surviving, by failing publicly, and by trading hard-won knowledge with the few peers we trust. This podcast is that knowledge, finally on the record. The Shadow Syllabus is for adult content creators — models, dommes, cam workers, phone operators, fanclub owners — people running businesses most of the world pretends doesn't exist, against rules nobody writes down, with no support system but each other. It's also for civilians: what we talk about here is more familiar than you think. We'll discuss boundaries, pricing, building something that survives you, and the psychology of being your own product. These aren't industry-specific problems, they're human ones, so come along for the ride & maybe this will be more useful to you than you think. In this episode, I lay out the show: the format, the tone, who I am, and the kinds of questions we're answering in coming weeks. No hustle culture. No vague inspiration. No selling you something every five minutes. Just the unfiltered strategic thinking of someone who started this with an iPhone 3. If this is your first time hearing me, welcome. If you've been around for a while, you know the energy. New episodes drop weekly. Subscribe so you don't miss what's coming.
