He was a part of the Nike Indoor Nationals championship-winning team in the 4x800m, was 5th in the Mile at the same meet, and is a 2x Runner-Up Tennessee D2-AA State Championship.     One email I sent five years ago changed the trajectory of my life. It was an email to Alex Ostberg, a Stanford student-athlete at the time. Alex quickly became a mentor to me and that drastically changed the outcomes in my life and heavily affected me startingThe Running Effect. Today's conversation centers around mentorship, the importance of a mentor, where to find a mentor, and many other subjects, including the power of saying "yes" when you're young, embracing serendipity, and recognizing the unexpected value in opportunities that might feel random at first. We also dive into why doubling down on what works and avoiding mistakes is a smarter strategy than constantly seeking brilliance or novelty, along with many, many other points and quotes!     One of the biggest up-and-coming stars in the country, Daniel Skandera, comes on the podcast today to share his story! Daniel has one of the most INSANE resumes as a junior in high school. He's a 4x USATF Junior Olympic National Champion. He's also set over FIFTY age-group world records ranging from 600m-5000m and ages 5-12.     Olympian & 3xNCAA Champion Juliette Whitaker Shares Exclusive Insights From Her Breakout Year & Placing 7th In The World In The 800m

    Olympian Juliette Whittaker returns to the podcast after the 2024 Paris Olympics! Juliette Whittaker, a 2024 Olympic 800-meter finalist, has earned three NCAA championships, including two in the 800 meters (indoors and outdoors, 2024) and one in the indoor distance medley relay (2023). A seven-time All-American, she claimed the Pac-12 800-meter title in 2023 and was named the Pac-12 Women's Track and Field Freshman of the Year. Juliette is the school-record holder in the indoor and outdoor 800 meters, indoor mile, indoor 4x400 relay, and both indoor and outdoor distance medley relays. Her accolades include being named the Stanford Athletics Board Conference Athlete of the Year (2023) and the Board Block 'S' Outstanding Sophomore (2024). Additionally, she was the U.S. under-20 800 champion in 2022 and holds the national high school outdoor record in the event. Juliette contributed to two NCAA West Region Cross Country team championships (2022, 2023) and excelled academically as a 2024 Academic All-American, a two-time USTFCCCA All-Academic honoree (2023, 2024), and a four-time member of the Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll. She placed 7th in the Olympic final. Juliette has run 1:57.76 (800m), 4:12.49 (1500m), and 4:30.92 (Mile).     Today on the podcast is the top-ranked high school girl in the country, Rylee Blade! Before she got into the sport, she played soccer for 10 years at a highly competitive level. In her short time as a runner, she has lit the high school world on fire. She was the CIF State Champion in the 1600 and 3200m in 2023, and won the 3200m again in 2024. She was also the 2023 CIF XC State Champion and will look to defend her title in 2024. This past spring, she became the 2024 Nike Outdoor Nationals 5k Champion. So far this season, she won the prestigious Woodbridge Invitational running 15:20.3 to set a meet and national record by eight seconds.     Olympian & Spanish Record Holder Mario Garcia Romo Shares Reflections From His 2024 Season

    The Spanish Rocket Mario Garcia Romo returns to the podcast. Mario holds PRs of 1:46.9 (800m), 3:47 (Mile - Spanish National Record), 4:49 (2k), & 7:34 (3k). Mario placed 4th at the 2022 World Champions in Eugene, Oregon, and then placed 6th in the 1500m at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, and had multiple top performances at Diamond Leagues around the world. In high school, Mario had personal bests of 1:50.66 in the 800m, 3:42.35 in the 1500m, and 8:12 in the 3000m. Mario then went to Ole Miss, where he quickly made a name for himself as one of the top runners in the nation. Mario was a 7-time All-American & 6-time SEC Champion. Perhaps the pinnacle of his NCAA years, Mario won the Mile at the 2022 Indoor Track and Field Championships. He placed fourth at the 2022 World Championships in Eugene, Oregon.     Former Notre Dame School Record Holder Ron Markezich Shares Stories & Lessons From His Successful Career On & Off The Track + Lessons From Parenting An NCAA Champion

    Today on the podcast is former Notre Dame school-record holder, Ron Markezich! On April 13, 1989, Ron ran 28:44 in the 10k to set a new Notre Dame school record that would last two decades. He was also an All-American in XC placing 11th on the grass. In high school, Ron won state titles and did some crazy things, like running 9:05 in the 3200m as a sophomore (unheard of for the 80s). After his successful years in the sport, he transitioned into corporate life where he was unbelievably successful, becomingan executive at Microsoft. He is currently the CEO of Lighthouse. He has four kids: Jordan, Cambria, Olivia, and Andrea. Three of them went onto run in the NCAA and Olivia is currently a professional runner for On and won an NCAA title in the Steeplchase last June.     Shelby Houlihan returns in less than four months. On January 15 2025 her suspension will be lifted. And she can compete against the world's best once again. As she starts her buildup to the redemption tour, I wanted to get her back on the podcast to spill the tea on all she's been up to and how she's planning on coming back. Shelby is a 13xUS National Champion, a 2016 Olympian, and the American Record Holder in the 1500m where she ran that in the 2019 World Championships in Doha where she placed 4th. She is also a World-Record Holder in the Women's 4x1500m. She holds PRs of 1:59.92 (800m), 3:54.99 (1500m), and 14:23.92 in the 5k. In college, she was the first student at Arizona State University to win a national individual title in the outdoor 1,500. Shelby was a 12-time NCAA Division I All-American, the second most in Arizona State history, and an NCAA Track champion.     Back on the podcast is the one and only Nathan Green! If you're not familiar with Nathan, he was the 2023 NCAA Outdoor 1,500m Champion and the 2023 Pac-12 1,500m Champion. In 2023 he also was All-America First Team (1,500m, Outdoors | Mile and DMR, Indoors). This year, Nathan placed 5th at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Trials in the 1500m, running a PR of 3:32.2 in the final and becoming the top collegiate. Back in 2022, Nathan was the U.S. Junior 1,500m Champion!
