Godzilla (1954) - HHF4M1

HALLOWEEN HUMPFEST IS BACK and we’re in the fourth year! “HUMPFEST” derives from when we were called “MOVIEHUMPERS” and this theme, along with “Movies Are Gay” is our most consistent. We’re doing the whole month classic style which means each day of the weekday covers a Horror sub-genre and Mondays are devoted the kaiju type. Mondays are called HERE THERE BE MONSTER MONDAYS and our first Monday in October kicks off with a discussion on the greatest of all the city destroying beast, the King of the Monsters, the original Kaiju. Of course we’re talkin’ GODZILLA, specifically the 1954 film by Ishirō Honda that kicked off the international phenomenon. What a treat to sit through this groundbreaking flick after probably not watching a Godzilla movie since we were children. It may be a man in a rubber suit, maybe the eyes look funny, but the foreboding dread and scope of destruction are captured amazingly. Not to mention the scale models and old school practical effects that are more and more becoming a thing of the past. Through the context of film history, Godzilla holds up nice so hit play on this episode and hear what else we got to say about it. This ep is kinda loosey goosey and a good amount of fun.
