#86. On the Sharp End of Life, with Dierdre Wolownick

Enjoy this very inspiring episode with Dierdre Wolownick! Her resiliency, determination, love of our Mother Nature, and views on raising children, and facing our fears are lessons we should all apply into our own lives. Dierdre’ has taught 5 foreign languages on 3 continents for 44 years. Her writings and her independent publishing company produced several award-winners and international sellers. A musician all her life, Dierdre founded and conducted the West Sacramento Community Orchestra, and plays in many community orchestras . At 55, she began running, and has done marathons, and half-marathons. At 59, she began rock climbing, and at 66, she became the oldest woman to climb Yosemite’s iconic El Capitan (with her son, Alex Honnold, of “Free Solo” fame). In 2021, she celebrated her 70th birthday by going up El Cap again and camping on the summit. She just returned from a 3-country speaking tour in Europe, and in 2023, the documentary about her life, “Climbing Into Life,” will be available at film festivals across the country. You can find Dierdre here: • CNN • The Sharp End of Life: A Mother’s Story — Mountaineers Books • Blog: dierdrew.us • IG: @DierdreWolownick Here are her key takeaways: Lifelong learning is who we are as humans. It is the key to happiness. We are happiest when we have a goal and we are learning something. The main job of any parents is to make themselves obsolete! Raise your children so they don't need us - that's our biggest job. You can't really know what you're capable of, until you try! There are 2 types of fear 1) real kind that warrants listening to , and 2) perceived fear - we think there is danger, and we react to that perception. Fear is always a choice and we have to learn to make that choice wisely. You have to expand your comfort zone to include whatever it is that scares you. The opposite of fear is not courage - it is foolhardiness - or daredevil-ness. You have to learn to talk yourself into no longer believing that fear. Mother nature has everything that we need. She has all the answers. We need to relearn that connection with our mother. The view from the top is not just a reward for your hard work, it's a reminder of how small we are in the grand scheme of things, and how beautiful the world can be if we're willing to push ourselves to see it. Humans are so tiny and insignificant on this planet. We are like little ants. Appreciate the grandeur of mother nature and all that she offers us - life is beautiful, it really is! _________________________ Schedule a Clarity and Next Chapter Call with Kavita Take the Career & Life Fulfillment Quiz - find out what's holding you back and how to move forward with confidence. A human rights lawyer by training, Shereen is a senior public servant with a strong record of leadership in delivering timely, innovative and effective business and process transformation in the Government of Canada over the past 20 years. [00:48:43] Finding Value and Being Valued [00:51:09] Overcoming Fear and Reaching Out with Confidence [00:51:52] Exploring Character-Based Hiring and Inclusive Leadership Here are her key takeaways: We are reinventing ourselves all the time. Reinvention is really about growing, it's about taking paths that you didn't even know you could take. Make a list of the things you want changed and divide that list into the things that you actually want to fight to change, and the ones that you are happy to leave for someone else. Reputation is built in steps and it just rides out on horseback. Lived experience, knowing other people have been through similar adversity, will help you find common ideas and hope as you go through it. When adversity hits, you have to understand its disruptive, its very disorienting, it puts you off balance, but chances are somebody has been through something like this, and if you listen to them, it can allow you to see a possibility that you maybe hadn't thought of. Uncertainty by definition creates anxiety. By talking about our lived experiences, we can try to get people out of that endless loop of uncertainty "Unpack the problem! Don't let the label of it be your defining characteristics Little small successes give you courage to take that next step. Momentum builds. The bravery of others will inspire you. Figure out what you need and do the unpacking. What do you need to succeed? Who do you know? Aptitude gets you in the door, but your enthusiasm and excitement will move you ahead. _________________________ Schedule a Clarity and Next Chapter Call with Kavita Take the Career & Life Fulfillment Quiz - find out what's holding you back and how to move forward with confidence. #82. On Writing Our Own Playbook in Life, with Nancy A Shenker

Enjoy this next podcast episode with Nancy A Shenker, as she will make you realize that you can, indeed, write your own playbook - exactly the way you want it to be! A brand growth consultant and content strategist/writer, she established her own business -- theONswitch -- in 2003, when she was close to 50. Nancy published a column called "The Silver Hair PlaybookTM: How to Be a Bad-Ass >50" as well as a guide to dating >50. She recently launched a stand-up act called, “I’m Not Your F*@!cking Grandma!” about perceptions of older women. If that isn't enough, she has written eight books, an AI/machine learning/robotics site, a travel and lifestyle site, and authors a newsletter called route 66, about energetic aging. You can find Nancy here: www.theonswitch.com https://linktr.ee/theonswitch ------------------------------------- Timestamped chapters: (00:00) Introduction (04:46) Welcome Remarks from Kavita (05:57) Introducing Nancy Shenker (07:48) Nancy's driving force behind reinvention (15:23) Following your passions versus society's expectations (17:34) Overcoming fear and taking risks (23:04) Women in technology (28:25) Cross-generational collaboration and ageism (31:47) Route 66 (33:57) Deciding who you want to be (34:55) What does Nancy's middile initial A stand for? (36:46) Nancy's mom learning to use an iPad at 94 (37:36) Connecting with Nancy (39:56) Key takeaways ------------------------------------- Here are her key takeaways: 1. What is your innate superpower which you may have had since childhood? If we believe that we are washed up, then we will start to behave that way. As women we need to take back some of our power! 2. We are the generation of women that is writing this playbook for the second half of our lives. It's not the beginning of the end - it's the beginning of the beginning. 3. Challenge yourself everyday to do something that scares you, just a little, because that is how you stay fresh and how you grow and how you don't become a geezer or that fearful older woman! 4. If we as women look at everything we've done in our lives from when we were kids - we did a lot of scary stuff! Remind yourself of that! 5. Our generation in many ways is the most qualified to lead the next technology evolution because we have seen it from the very beginning. 6. Cross-generational collaboration is so important. You can gain so much working with people at all ages - their perspectives, skills, habits. 7. We need to love ourselves first before anyone else can love us! #81. On the Power of Storytelling and Taking the Detours in Life, with Melissa Davey

Enjoy this next podcast episode with Melissa Davey who is sure to inspire you, as she talks about the importance of recognizing, and taking detours in our lives. By taking these detours you can learn things about yourself that you never imagined were even possible. Melissa retired from a lengthy corporate career in 2016 to pursue her third act and dream of becoming a filmmaker. Melissa began her early career in Legal Services pursuing compliance and advocacy for disabled children. For 22 years, Melissa worked throughout the United States to bring services to individuals and the disability insurance marketplace. At age, 65 Melissa retired from her career and took a giant leap. After spending a day on the set, behind the camera with a famous Director, Melissa made the decision that changed her life. Pursuing her dream of becoming a filmmaker became a reality in 2018 when Melissa completed her first film, Beyond Sixty Project, a feature length documentary about women over the age of 60. Melissa’s film was accepted by and screened at 8 film festivals throughout the US and Canada, winning awards and confirming that it is truly never too late to learn something new. Her second documentary, Climbing Into Life, is currently in post-production. You can find Melissa here: Watch Beyond Sixty Online | Vimeo On Demand on Vimeo Climbing into Life-Trailer on Vimeo www.beyondsixty.com Here are her key takeaways: More than 50% of the time people ignore signs or push them away. When we are young we are taught fantasy vs reality, but I think that is a mistake - we should be open to everything. Even if it's scary, unless we allow ourselves to try something new, do something that you haven't done before, that probably scares you a little bit, you might miss something that you want to try something new. I encourage people to talk to other people, expand your group, find out why you might not take that next step, and when you figure out why you're probably going to say - why did i allow that to hold me back? I've had failures that I've felt terrible about, but that I learned from. So every time I failed I had this new learning bucket. When people listen to stories hopefully they can take them in, and challenge the way they feel about something and by listening to a story, you can change your entire viewpoint on something that you had no relation to until you heard the story We all have transferable skills - that you learn through life, your family, through work. You're good at certain things. And if that transfers to something else, you'll probably be good at it there as well Women are born with this innate amount of resilience. And if they tapped into it they could probably do anything - even get beyond their fears. It comes from their experience, their failures, readjusting to the failures and building that resilience muscle over time. You're never too old, take the detours and live a great story. _________________________ Schedule a Clarity and Next Chapter Call with Kavita Take the Career & Life Fulfillment Quiz - find out what's holding you back and how to move forward with confidence. #80. On How To Have a 2023 Beyond Your Wildest Dreams, with Kavita Ahuja

Join Kavita as she welcomes you to a New Year of possibilities, her first podcast of the year, and the 3rd season of The Midlife Reinvention podcast! She discusses why she is doing this, and it is simply: To help you realize the greatness of who you really are, at this moment. Does the work you are doing right now make you happy? What we do everyday is so important. We spend most of our days doing some kind of work – shouldn’t this work align with who you are, your values, your passions, and make you happy? Kavita wants this for you, and her goal this year is to help you find happiness in the work you do. Whether that is in your job, starting your own business, volunteering for something you are passionate about, retiring, pursuing a buried passion. Does what you are doing right now make you happy? Is there something missing that you want to change about it? What is it? Why aren’t you doing something about it? Her goal this year is to help you cut through all the noise and to help you figure out who you really are, what you really want, and how to get there. Through her Coaching Program, It's My Time Now!, this podcast, her upcoming workshops, talks, her new book and her writings, Kavita will help you limit the obstacles in your way, and gain the confidence to take your next steps this year. Reach out to her at: kavita@powerpurposeplay.ca for a free consultation. This New Year is a beautiful opportunity to start with a clean slate and self reflect on WHO you are now, and who you want to BE by the end of 2023. Download this wonderful Self-Reflection Guide to help you get started! Here are Kavita's key takeaways on how you can have a 2023 beyond your wildest dreams : 1) Try to get rid of the excess “baggage” in your life. Ask yourself – what do I really need to be happy? 2) Discover what really matters to you. Are you putting your attention to those things, rather than adding layers of confusion and noise around you? 3) Can you be internally happy where you are, in this moment? Do you really need to have extra things or go to other places to be happy? 4) Think of all the abundance in your life right now. Do not focus on the lack, but the wonderful feeling of abundance, and more abundance will flow to you. 5) Relax and enjoy the moment – and do those things and surround yourself with those people – who make you happy. If you are transitioning into something new – whether that is a new job, starting a new business, working on new and improved health or relationships – simplicity is the key to success. Remember this: By being yourself, you put something wonderful in the world that was never there before. #79. On Moving from Tragedy to Inspiration, with Dr. Zhu Shen

Enjoy this moving podcast episode, as you learn about the incredible reinvention story of Dr. Zhu Shen, from tragedy to inspiration. She shares her vulnerable story about how she "chose to bare my soul to reconnect with my son, reclaim my buried artistic prowess, transforming from a ‘Tiger Mom’ to a ‘Zen Mom’.” Dr. Shen is an award-winning writer, film producer, director working on her first personal documentary feature, JOURNEY OF A THOUSAND MILES , "an ode to the bond between mother and son, told with radical vulnerability and honesty," and “a deeply moving look into the love that binds a family." Chen, in honor of her late husband, Dr. Changyou Chen, a Stanford-trained biotech founder & cancer researcher who lost his life to cancer itself. You can find Zhu here: https://www.journeyof1000milesfilm.com/ Linkedin Facebook YouTube Instagram Twitter Here are her key takeaways: You're only limited by your own imagination. I'm gutsy and I'm not afraid. The fearlessness empowered me to think about possibilities in life. Ask people what you want! 80% of the time people say yes to me - because I thought of asking! What I've learned is that there are times when we don't even know the inner strength that we have within us, when something tragic or devastating happens to us in our lives. When tragedy or setbacks happen in your life, you can view it as an opportunity and a test of your character. Connect with like-minded people. You can start small - you don’t' have to quit your job immediately when you're realizing that what you're doing is not what you want to do. You can start learning about the things that you may have interest in from your younger days. Start off with curiosity, and connect with people who are doing the things that you are curious about. Do something small and you will find out if its something you would truly want to do. When you see your own progress, that will give you more confidence to continue. Live the life you imagine! #78. On Climbing Our Own Personal Mountains, with Karen Simpson

Enjoy this next podcast episode with Karen Simpson, as it is sure to provide you with some food for thought on how you can climb your own personal mountain! Karen wants everyone to become confident identifying and celebrating their awesome. Her career spans over 30 years as a certified HR leader, DEI expert, tech sales professional and, in 2019, she was awarded Canada's #1 Recruiter. Most recently, Karen was President of Lean in Toronto leading a team of 30 who were passionate about helping women become unapologetically ambitious. In her late 50's she became an endurance athlete recognized as @karengeterdone onsocial media and has climbed the highest mountains in 9 countries, ran 5 marathons and hit the podium for her first duathlon. She is a cancer survivor and has completed the Ride to Conquer Cancer twice. As Karen says, "Whether you think you can or think you can't, you're right." You can find Karen here: https://www.facebook.com/Karengeterdon https://www.instagram.com/karengeterdone/?hl=en https://karengeterdone.com/ https://www.tiktok.com/@karengeterdone Here are her Key Takeaways: Reinvention is an evolution and building upon what we already have that's awesome. The things that got me to move forward were all of my strengths. All the things that I was using with other people, were the things I needed to direct to myself now. I look at our lives as simply a series of decisions we can make. Are we going to be proud of ourselves at the other side of that decision? I'm at the point where I walk into my fears and I ask myself 2 things - am I afraid or am I reacting to doubt? I think you really need to look at why you would be stopping yourself from doing something - step into it - what is the worst that could happen? I think we all need to train that little voice of doubt- every time we have doubt we need to start exercising this. If you do the right think I strongly believe it's going to come right back to you. What's the right thing for you to keep your confidence and move forward in a progressive and productive manner? There is never going to be a perfect moment, and sometimes we need to just believe in ourselves so much that we just do it. What we think of ourselves is the most important thing. And that's what we need to protect. How do you build that faith in self, or love of self. It is by taking on things which are difficult - we should do hard things. Pay it forward - intentionally bring yourself to community to help others. I think we always need to be putting ourselves out in the community, and we need community as well. Thank you for listening, and please share and review this podcast if you enjoy it. Remember, if you need help climbing that mountain - or for that matter - figuring out which mountain you even want to climb - reach out to me at kavita@powerpurposeplay.ca. #77. On Holistic Nutrition as We Age, with Glenda Britton

Enjoy this podcast episode with Glenda Britton. Her passion for holistic nutrition as fueled by her own lived experience, is a lesson for us all to think about our own lifestyle and nutrition and how we can improve our energy, health and life if we follow some simple strategies. After years of being unwell, multiple diagnoses and medications, along with buckets of supplements, the doctors said, "There's nothing more that can be done". She had no choice – out of sheer desperation, she turned to nutrition... Initially having no idea what to do – she spent HOURS every day in the kitchen - lucky for her it worked! She returned to school to learn the science behind how food could help her get better when nothing else could. Now, Glenda happily states that she’s healthier now than she was 20 years ago. You can find Glenda here: https://www.facebook.com/gebrittonrhn https://www.instagram.com/glenda.britton/?hl=en https://www.linkedin.com/in/glendabrittonrhn/ www.glendabritton.com Here are her key takeaways: Even though there are nutrients, foods, supplements and lifestyle strategies for symptoms, unless you go upstream to the actual cause or imbalance, you just won't make any gains. We are at a place in history where we have come so far away from our natural food sources that we need people like nutritionists. Nutritionists wouldn't have been a thing 100 years ago because we were eating organic foods in soil that was robust and full of nutrients. The microbiome is a series of bacteria, fungi, parasites, and viruses which is everywhere through our bodies and is a big indicator of our health. Most of our microbiome is in our gut. Even the bad ones have some good properties. The problem is not the gluten, the problem is the gut. The problem is the health of the gut. The Superager concept is both cognitive and physical. In our 60s to 80s we can function 20 or more years younger than what is expected in that age range. We know that depression is an inflamed brain and that the gut and brain are connected. Is a direct connection. If we are working on inflammation in gut - can help with brain health. It's holistic. A lot of people are having health crises sooner and are turning to healthy, holistic lifestyles as a result. By supporting smaller farms, we are protecting our planet and lowering our carbon blueprint. Thank you for listening, , and remember to take advantage of my Thanksgiving offer to you of 25% off my signature 3 month coaching program, It's My Time Now! #76. On Our Big Hairy Audacious Goals, with Kavita Ahuja

Enjoy this next podcast episode with Kavita, as she speaks about setting Big Hairy Audacious Goals for yourself, which align with your strengths, passions, values - and how much impact you want to make for those you choose to. Even if you think things are going great - there is always a chance to bring out a blank slate and ask yourself - can I do better? The all-too-common question: “What do I want to do with the rest of my life?” looms large in our minds. It always seems to be about the DOING – but I challenge you to disrupt this way of thinking. What if you were to think about who you want to BE first? Think about it this way: “Who you want to BE determines what you will do, and how you will achieve it” The only way we can really figure out what we want to do (and how to do it) is to first start with the WHO. Who do you want to be, and why? The answers will come from within if we really stop to ask ourselves deep questions and answer truthfully. What is your BHAG – your Big, Hairy, Audacious Goal? Take some time to write down what comes to mind right now for you. Remember, your goals can be as outrageous or audacious as you want – but it is a dream you have for yourself. If you’ve done the work of thinking about your strengths, passions, and values – no doubt this BHAG will align with them. It should make you feel uncomfortable. As it stands today, to what degree do you think you can achieve your BHAG? Of course, blocks will come up as you think about executing your BHAG. Write those blocks down and ask yourself – what strengths do I possess which will help me achieve this goal? As we transition in distinct stages of our lives, always remember who you want to BE first. Let your BHAG guide you, and work to uncover all the remarkable things you already have inside of you – that are just waiting to be revealed to the world. In the meantime, if you are thinking about your BHAG and are at a crossroads in life - maybe thinking about changing your career, moving ahead in your current one, leaving it to start a new venture, retiring to pursue your passions, or doing a combination of all of these - but are confused - reach out to me. I’ve been there, I know how you feel, and I have created a process and am trained to help you find the answers. My bhag is to positively impact 1 million women worldwide - but that starts with one powerful woman at a time. Will you be one of them? I am going to contemplate, over the next few months, how I can best serve you. I have had the honor of interviewing amazing people in this podcast, and the honor of coaching many extraordinary women. As a result, I have learned a lot, and seen some patterns which I believe need to be addressed further. I will be sharing my next steps in the weeks ahead. I want 2023 and beyond to be about serving you best - and that is what I am working on right now. So stay tuned for some big announcements! If you don’t know what I do - I am a certified women’s life and career transitions coach, and if you don’t know what that is, or what a coach does - reach out to me at kavita@powerpurposeplay.ca for a free consultation. I have a 3 month coaching program called It’s My time now - which will help you identify exactly who you want to be and how you want to do it! _________________________ Schedule a Clarity and Next Chapter Call with Kavita Take the Career & Life Fulfillment Quiz - find out what's holding you back and how to move forward with confidence. #75. On Reclaiming Your Feminine Power, with Tina Brigley

Enjoy this podcast episode with Tina Brigley - her energy and courage is palpable, and I hope you gain a lot of understanding about the benefits of reclaiming your feminine power in your life! It's about being open to the possibilities around us, and taking time to love ourselves first. Tina is an international coach, TedX speaker and 4 time global business award winner. Despite her success, she had to overcome many obstacles to breakthrough personal limitations. Recently a business setback had her reevaluate her priorities and desires. Tina is passionate about helping people reclaim their personal power so that they can become unstoppable. You can find Tina here: Instagram & Facebook YouTube Channel TinaBrigley.com Here are her key takeaways: Setbacks are often set-ups. We see things that happen in life as setbacks when in fact they are usually they are a set-up for something bigger and better. What I desire matters, how I feel matters, who I am in the world matters. I matter! I know that I'm the creator of my own reality and I sourced this happening for a reason. I'm open to receiving because I know that when there is a clear intention - it's always reflected in the results. The results will show up. As women when we can reclaim that intuition, when we can slow down enough to listen, when we can really ask ourselves, what is it that we desire - what do I desire right now? Avoiding conflict is manufacturing fake peace - you don't want to manufacture fake peace - you want to be confident in what you're asking for. Be selfish! Because when you are, you give away that to others. You give them permission to love themselves. And this is what's missing in the world - self love. We need fear to experience courage and anytime we step outside of the container that we have been put in, it's scary, but every time you do that, you develop the courage. When you have a relationship with yourself, you're never alone - you are always with yourself! _________________________ Schedule a Clarity and Next Chapter Call with Kavita Take the Career & Life Fulfillment Quiz - find out what's holding you back and how to move forward with confidence. She is also passionate about equality and compassion for all - despite your race, religion, ethnicity or gender Claudia is an artist, writer, philanthropist, abundance coach, mentor, mother, and wife. You can find Claudia here: www.BrighterDaysBook.com Instagram: @Cindifreakinrella FB Page: @MyBloomingFamily Twitter: @Noriega_Clau Here are her Key Takeaways: I really feel that a version of myself expires everyday and I do my best to become the next best version the following day. It is our time to do what we want to do with our life, When I gave myself permission to make myself a priority a lot of doors opened, because the sky is the limit. It's not about the obstacles, it's about the vision - what is it that you want? It's like we get another wing! Being vulnerable doesn't mean I am not strong - I can still be a very strong woman and still be vulnerable. It's ok to cry sometimes. The person in the mirror is your best friend and you need to be kind to that person, and figure out what are the possibilities you have to overcome the obstacles that you are facing in that moment. You have a choice, even if your panties are on your ankles! You can change your mind! God allows U-turns! When you acknowledge all the blessings that you have in your life, then you live a life of abundance. I refuse to be a thermometer - I want to be a thermostat! I want to be the one who sets the temperature in a room when I walk in a room! I don't want to take the negative, or the low, or the stress energy from anybody, I want to bring the joy into the room! _________________________ Schedule a Clarity and Next Chapter Call with Kavita Take the Career & Life Fulfillment Quiz - find out what's holding you back and how to move forward with confidence. #73. On the Power Trifecta! Women of Color Over 50, with Janice Sutherland

Enjoy this weeks podcast episode with Janice Sutherland who is sure to inspire you. Her confidence and no nonsense attitude towards life reminds us that - regardless of your age, color, background or experiences - you CAN do this! Janice Sutherland supports women to dream big while achieving their goals and career ambitions. As founder of This Woman Can, an award winning leadership and personal development company rooted in career mentoring for executive women, Janice now helps countless career minded women to re-align their careers while staying true to their values and personal and professional priorities. Her professional career has spanned over 25 years of leadership with prestigious multinationals in the UK and Caribbean, she crossed continents to create a new life and make history when she became the first female CEO in the Telecoms Sector in her ancestral home of Antigua and Barbuda whilst in her 50s. Only to step down at the height of her corporate career to create a life on her own terms. You can find Janice here: https://www.linkedin.com/in/iamjanicesutherland https://www.instagram.com/iamjanicesutherland/ https://www.facebook.com/iamjanicesutherland https://www.twitter.com/This_Woman_Can https://janicesutherland.com/ Here are her Key Takeaways: Ask yourself what you really want. Not what society says you should have. That may have been ok in our 20s or 30s but now it's ok if you actually want something different. Have a MacGyver mentality - that there is always a solution. You may have to take a couple of detours, but focus on what your end goal is. Sort out fact from fiction and if this is what you want to do, be focused on it. You will always have your detractors, but similarly you'll have people who support you on your side. Values evolve and change. When it comes to purpose - ask yourself - does this make me feel good? Does it make me happy? I always said I never want any "could have, would have, should have's". Always try something - and if it doesn't work - then it doesn't work but at least you've tried! This is the power trifecta! Black, female, over 50! You're getting me at my best! You are not starting over, you are starting from experience! There is so much we have right now that we can tap into now that we didn't have in our 20s or 30s. You don't need to be empowered when you already have the power! #71. On the Power of Our Third Acts, with Diana Dunbar Place

Enjoy this week’s episode of The Midlife Reinvention Podcast, with Diana Dunbar Place on The Power of Our Third Acts. You DO have the power to create the next most exciting chapter of your life! Diana is the founder of Third Act Quest and the new 333 Collective - which are both her way of living her passion to reframe the perception and experience of aging by inspiring and connecting women as they create their life’s most exciting chapter — their “third act. After years of dancing on the edges of her passions through a roller coaster life and career, it was the coincidence of three “lightning strike” experiences that compelled Diana to dig deep to focus on what she truly wanted to do with her "one wild & precious life." You can find Diana here: 333 Collective Website - Third Act Quest Schedule a conversation Sign up for my Newsletter Linked In Facebook Instagram YouTube Here are her Key Takeaways: The beauty of any transition is that there is unbelievable opportunity for growth, where you have the opportunity to follow your heart and not just your mind. By the time you've been here for 50 years plus you have had so many experiences, including resilience, which is a gift. You are on the right path if you can stay curious and that helps you push aside fear, but moreover there are all these synchronicities as you follow your heart...it all seems to be served up to you on a path. If we are open to possibilities it can happen to any of us. I'm the driver on this bus - I get to decide which direction we go and we have a finely tuned GPS inside and we've got to listen to it and know when we are off course. Fear is powerful and it's an essential part of being alive. It's a survival tool, but we have to know where to put fear, we have to know when to listen to it and when it's simply just holding us back. If we have a dream that's inside of us...we owe it to ourselves to start the exploration. This time is ours - I love the fact that I own this time - I literally own it, it doesn't own me. If you think of it as owning the time, it feels like it expands. Ageism is real, its powerful, and is tough for women. Every single wrinkle is a map of my life and this is me! #70. On Our First Days, with Kavita Ahuja

Join Kavita, as she muses about our first days! As she watched the children in her neighborhood embarking on their first day of school - and witnessed their nervousness and excitement. She saw how this day brings sadness to the parents who separate from their kids, yet pride at what they have become. As we pack our kids off to school, and settle back into our own lives – what is ahead for us? We all have the same feelings when we start something new. We have worry – will we be able to succeed? Fear – are people going to like me? Excitement – for all the new things we are going to learn and all the new people we are going to meet. Especially now, after 2 years of not seeing one another in person – this year is extra special. Think about what you want your first day to look like. Whether that is a first day at a new job – a new career – or even the same career but with a different outlook on it. What will your relationships look like – can you bring the freshness back of the first day you met? How about when you felt so energized and healthy – can you bring that energy and vitality back into your lives? It's all starts with our thoughts. If you can think it, it can happen. Think of all the positive possibilities. Yes, there will be doubts, and yes, not everything is going to happen magically. But if you think it can, with every fiber of your being – it has to happen. It’s just law. Be open to the possibilities around you – put yourself out there even if it makes you feel uncomfortable. Go for what you really want because there is no time like the present. Kavita has created a system to help you get there. It’s called, It’s My Time Now, and you are invited with a small group of other like-minded women to join her this fall, starting the week of October 17th for 6 weeks of transformation. You will have Kavita live on zoom for 90 minutes each week for 6 weeks where she will take you step by step through this process she has created. You will be with other women in this group who want the same things – who want to feel like their first days are ahead of them and not behind them. Are you interested? If so, email Kavita today at kavita@powerpurposeplay.ca and tell her why you want this day to be the first. She will send you all the details and the application form. It is only open to 10 women for maximum interaction and transformation. If you have even an inkling of curiosity – just reach out to Kavita, and she can get on a call with you as well to tell you more. "I’m doing this because I want you to feel excitement for what lies ahead in your life. In every aspect of it. I want you to feel like that little girl – with her new uniform, as she smoothed her skirt down – looked up at her mom – and smiled that toothless smile. Bring her back, my friend – and I am here to help you do just that." #69. On Women and Leadership, with Palena Neale

Enjoy this informative podcast episode on Women and Leadership with Palena Neale. So many pearls to apply into our own lives! How do you lead in your life? At work? In your relationships? What about your health and wellness? Are you taking some time for YOU? Palena is an accredited executive and leadership coach and educator, highly experienced in organizational and leadership development for the private sector, UN, government, non-profit, and academic organizations. She has designed and delivered leadership programs across four continents and founded Unabridged – a leadership development practice providing bespoke coaching, mentoring and learning for greater personal, professional and social impact. You can find Palena here: https://www.linkedin.com/in/palenaneale/ https://unabridgedleadership.com/ @PalenaNeale 4 Questions to Help Women Navigate the Second Half of Their Careers Network to Amplify V.A.L.U.E Here are her key takeaways: In 2022, Globally, women in senior management is at 32%. In Canada, the number of women in the C-Suite is at 21%. The pace is very slow and if we continue at this rate, we are not going to reach gender parity for 130 years. Many social, cultural and gender norms, as well as race, ethnicity and the double blind bias hold women back from leading and being more visible. Women are often having to balance likability and competence. A lot of time there is a strong hesitation to pursue visibility. And one of the reasons I, "well, my work should speak for itself". There is a gender bias in being too visible, and to many, visibility means bragging, and bragging is bad! There are 4 questions women can ask to rethink their professional goals: 1) What would your career or contribution look like if nothing was in the way? 2) What permission do you need to give yourself in order to become who you want to be? 3) How could you build access and support for your network? And 4) What do you need to learn? Women are not as kind to themselves as they could be, and this is true of women leaders as well. It's important to have a comprehensive view of listening, where you are listening to yourself with your mind, your thoughts, your body?. What does my context or my environment tell me? How often do you take time to listen to yourself? And, when you do – are you receptive and empathetic? Use the RAIN method to help you: Recognize what is going on; Allow the experience to be there, just as it is; Investigate with interest and care; Nurture with self-compassion.” Book a call with Kavita today for a complimentary coaching consultation, and to learn more about her signature Coaching Program, "It's My Time Now!" Join Kavita Ahuja as she discusses the transformational power of coaching. Coaching is about looking forward to what is possible. It is about visualizing what you want and achieving that vision with confidence and concrete planning. It is about lessening those inner voices and critics which tell us we can’t do something and flip it around - and instead say, Yes I can! It is about putting yourself first and that is not selfish - it is about investing in yourself, so you can show up better for everyone else. She discusses her own transformational journey and how it is possible to flip the switch from "midlife crisis" to "midlife opportunity" by flipping our negative and limiting thoughts about ourselves into positive beliefs and action. As she so passionately states, " I see your potential - even when you may not. I believe in you - even when you may not believe in yourself. #67. On Being the Top Sixty Over Sixty, with Helen Hirsh Spence

Enjoy this next episode of The Midlife Reinvention Podcast, as Helen Hirsh Spence reminds us to believe in the untapped potential of people, regardless of their age. As Helen so rightly says, "don't ever think it's too late to do anything. It's Not!" Helen is an Age Provocateur, a Mindset Shifter, and Thought Leader who speaks about the positives of ageing and the inherent negatives of ageism. She created Top Sixty Over Sixty, a niche age diversity consultancy, to provide age equity tools and training to businesses, and to support individuals who are seeking reinvention as they transition to their next stage of life with purpose. You can find Helen here: https://www.topsixtyoversixty.com/ https://bit.ly/3cJBwbc https://www.linkedin.com/company/top-sixty-over-sixty/ https://www.facebook.com/topsixtyoversixty/ Here are her Key Takeaways: People are beginning to realize that 50 is not old! Retirement age is something that was established in the 1930's and we still adhere to this belief which has no bearing on current findings. A child born today has a 50-50 chance of having an average lifespan of 100, and that really changes the whole trajectory of lives! Their needs to be an awareness of the capacity of those of us who are aging, and stop relating it to our grandparent's area. Employers need to retain their older workers or rehire older employees because they bring a wealth of experience and expertise. They are trainable! It's about a change in attitude, and a belief in oneself. Confidence has been eroded by the market which caters to a youth centric world.
