The Mangione Trial

Accused of murder, Luigi Mangione went viral. We explore why, and will bring you news updates on major developments in the case, from our BBC reporters. Mangione was charged with killing health insurance chief executive Brian Thompson. The CEO of UnitedHealthcare was shot in New York in December 2024, leaving behind a grieving family. Luigi Mangione was eventually arrested at a McDonald's in the town of Altoona in Pennsylvania, kickstarting countless conspiracy theories online.

He later admitted killing Brian Thompson, pleading guilty to two federal charges related to the shooting. Mangione is still facing charges at state level, in New York and Pennsylvania.
