HE TOOK BARABBAS' PLACE | The Last Supper Club · John 18

Welcome back to The Last Supper Club! Inspired by Jesus and the way He loved eating with His friends, Swarzy is serving up dinner and discussion - all drenched in the Gospel of John. Whether you're familiar or simply curious, The Last Supper Club is a space for anyone who is hungry to discover more about Jesus. Expect good food and good convos that will leave your belly full and your soul satisfied In this episode, we're in John 18 — a chapter full of contrast. They come to arrest Jesus, He steps towards them and they fall down; Peter pulls a sword and cuts off Malchus' ear, then denies Jesus three times by the fire; Pilate asks "What is truth?" while standing in front of the man who is the way, the truth and the life; and the crowd chooses Barabbas, a guilty man on death row, instead of the only innocent one. Around a sweet-and-sour table (sweet and sour chicken, fried rice, teriyaki salmon, and marble cake — chocolate, vanilla and marshmallow), the room talks guilty pleasures, cock-crow moments when we've dropped the ball, the difference between guilt and shame, godly sorrow that leads to repentance, and who we are in the story: Peter, Pilate or Barabbas. The greatest contrast is the exchange: Jesus swaps places with the guilty. JESUS PRAYED FOR YOU | The Last Supper Club · John 17

Expect good food and good convos that will leave your belly full and your soul satisfied In this episode, we're in John 17 — the High Priestly Prayer, where Jesus prays for Himself, for His disciples, and for us. He says eternal life is to know the only true God and Jesus Christ whom He sent, asks the Father to keep His friends from the evil one, and prays that we would be one. Around a build-your-own fajita table (pulled chicken, beef, guacamole, salsa, a pepper medley, mac and cheese) with sticky toffee pudding, banoffee pie and a Terry's Chocolate Orange for dessert, everyone brought something different to make one meal — a picture of unity. The table shares who they can ask anything of, "silly" prayers God answered (parking, a lost Oyster card, a suit that fit), huge answered prayers — a new kidney at 30, a baby after fibroid surgery, a home provided for free, a mum brought back from COVID — and what it means to be one family in Christ. App early access (Bible study, recipes, community beyond the dinner table): https://thelastsupperclub.org/#community-app Chapters: 0:00 — Welcome and the fajita menu 1:33 — John 17: the High Priestly Prayer 1:50 — In whose name can you get a guaranteed yes? 8:18 — Ask in my name: a God of good gifts 9:17 — Silly prayers God answered 14:17 — What do these stories say about God? 18:35 — This is eternal life (verse 3) 20:36 — Big prayers, big answers 26:15 — Keep them from the evil one 30:59 — Arrow prayers 38:35 — Jesus prays for us: one family (verse 23) 48:09 — By your love they will know 49:39 — Believe — closing prayer Watch more episodes: https://thelastsupperclub.org https://thelastsupperclub.org/episodes 🎧 Listen to The Last Supper Club as a podcast: Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/2PZDitg6FfCRFIlQAxshW4 Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/podcast/id6818269994 YouTube: https://youtube.com/@swarzytv Instagram: https://instagram.com/swarzyshire This is a Good Gifts Production in collaboration with Bible Society.
