Daniel 2: Nebuchadnezzar’s Dream and the Kingdoms of Men
In this Sunday Bible study, I continued our walk through Daniel by focusing on Daniel chapter 2 and Nebuchadnezzar’s forgotten dream. We looked at the impossible demand placed on Babylon’s wise men, Daniel’s decision to seek God in prayer with Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, and the humility Daniel showed when God revealed both the dream and its interpretation. One of the clearest takeaways in this passage is that when human wisdom runs out, God is still able to reveal what no man can know on his own. From there, I worked through the image in Nebuchadnezzar’s dream as a prophetic outline of successive kingdoms—Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece, Rome, and the final iron-and-clay phase still tied to the end times. We also touched on related passages in Proverbs, Genesis, Job, and Revelation, along with some of the more difficult prophetic questions raised by the text. Beneath all of that was the central reminder of the study: every kingdom of men has an expiration date, but the stone cut without hands points to Jesus Christ and the everlasting kingdom that will never be destroyed.
