The Happy Weight Podcast

Aoife Deane. Dietitian, Hypnotherapist

Hi, I’m Aoife. I’m a Registered Dietitian with an MSc in Nutritional Medicine and a Clinical Hypnotherapist. But my most important qualification is that I started dieting at 11 and spent the next 18 years yo-yo dieting, moving up and down four dress sizes and developing binge eating disorder and bulimia. I used to envy slim people who loved food, but didn’t obsess over it. Now I’m one of them. Through this podcast, I’d love to share the skills, tools, and mindset I learned through my own struggles and 17 years of helping others.

EP121. How to be cool & regulated with ALL foods

Most weight problems stem from an all-or-nothing attitude toward food. We are either not allowing ourselves to have something, or we are on a cheat day/ not caring day and eating loads of it to discomfort. Neither is good. The happy ever after we want with eating and weight requires getting to a less chaotic, more regulated, positive place with all foods.

EP119. When people trigger your overeating

Comfort eating can have a lot to do with how the people around us are affecting how we feel. In this episode, I talk about how other people can lead us to overeat and share strategies to reframe things and avoid turning to food. I also share some ideas I love from Rhonda Byrne’s The Power, Don Miguel Ruiz’s The Four Agreements and Tara Swart’s The Source.

EP118. When Body Image is affecting your eating

When old thoughts win, and we go back to hating our body it generally leads to eating and not caring : not caring about food- respecting it, being grateful for it, not caring about what it tastes like,or how it's going to make us feel after. So it's not nice on any level, either on the day or afterwards dealing with the weight we gain from these kinda days. In this episode I explain how to seperate body imaging from eating.

EP116. Never have a weight problem again

We can put on a bit of weight and feel soo bad. But this worsens how we eat, how we treat our body and so we gain even more weight. We can have excess weight, currently, without having a weight problem mindset. That's what I discuss in this episode: where we need to get to now, in order to lose weight but also to make sure it never comes back.

EP115.How to take the fun out of overeating & binging (so we stop doing it)

The bad thing about rules is that it is sooo fun to break them! The idea that some foods are "bad" for weight loss and some are "good" actually makes "bad" foods more fun to eat or overeat! This can keep us in an eternal cycle of trying to be strict and meanwhile gaining weight. This episode is about dismantling that framework, so we start eating the right way, for the right reasons :)

EP114. The Loveliest way to let go of a stone

To lose weight, we don't have to find new foods or new diets; we need to stop eating in a way that always results in non-stop grazing, overeating or binging. Therefore, blocking our true lightness and natural weight. “Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it" - Rumi. I discuss how to easily and consistently let go of the weight we put on, in a non-diety, permanently-slim-person kind of way.

EP113. Wealth & Weight Loss : 4 mindsets that help both

The abundance mentality needed to get out of dieting and weight problems and become our ideal weight, is a strangely similar journey to getting out of a scarcity or lack mentality and getting to a better place with money. Here I chat about 4 mindset shifts that help both!

EP106. Starting to act like a slim person

I've been overweight and a binge eater. I've been/ I am a healthy weight person with a good relationship with food. So I know the two ways of being are very, very different. EP105. The 'Good Week, Bad Week' Trap

Dieting taught us to be all or nothing, to categorise foods and days as good or bad, on track or off track. We will not be able to keep this way of thinking AND become someone without weight or eating issues. In this episode, I break down these moments and suggest a new way of seeing them and reacting that facilitates more progress towards our happy ever after.

    EP104.How To Stop Boredom Eating

Hosting a party this week meant I needed to do a lot of cleaning and housework. Instead of getting started, I spent 2 days eating more chocolate than I have in ages and playing video games on my phone. It reminded me so clearly of how things used to feel when I did that all the time. In this episode, I talk about spotting our patterns, becoming more aware of our needs, emotional and physical cues, and reducing the number of times we end up in situations where using food to medicate emotions feels almost unavoidable.

EP103. Letting go of weight without burning out

When we're feeling burnt out, demotivated, something is up. This is not on track. We can keep forgetting that the joy is IN the journey, and if there's not joy in the journey we're probably heading in the wrong direction. Especially when it comes to improved mental and physical health and an improved relationship with food. This episode is to help you feel more energised as you move forward, being aware of how our mind sabbotages that and can make us go back to feeling stuck. EP102. Stop "Trying" to lose weight

When we're "trying" to lose weight, we go through our day coming from a place of "I'm a fat person trying to get slim." We make choices, comments, and practice thoughts that a person without a weight problem would never. And so, with every day that passes, we are becoming less like a person who doesn't have eating and weight issues. In this episode, I walk through what a typical day : how we'd normally act or respond Vs how we'd act or respond as someone without eating and weight issues.
