Synopsis
(Continued.) In many countries children receive their education primarily in school, and therefore it is of utmost importance that in school they be instilled (and at the beginning of the day) with an awareness of faith in the Creator and Ruler of the world, and that one must conduct oneself in accordance with His will and that He cannot be deceived, etc. – “an eye sees and an ear hears.” There are those who fight to prohibit any mention of G-d in public schools, on the basis that the Constitution requires separation of religion and state. But this argument falls apart when you consider the spirit of the law: The founders of the country designed the Constitution so that people could enjoy freedom of religion (unlike the countries from which they had fled etc.); this is why they included a clause prohibiting the government from interfering with the people’s ability to exercise their religion as they see fit. It therefore makes no sense to use this clause to deny freedom of religion to those parents who want their children to be imbued with the knowledge of G-d. Moreover, these parents are penalized, because in addition to paying taxes to support the public schools, they also have to finance at their own expense the private schools where their children can learn about religion.
