    Short Circuit (1986)

The boys are coming to you from Astoria, Oregon with a review of 1986’s Short Circuit from INSIDE of Stephanie’s house! This is a fun one where we tackle the important questions. Is Johnny Five still one of the most lovable movie robots ever created? How do the practical effects somehow still look this good nearly 40 years later? Is Ally Sheedy secretly doing all the heavy lifting? How did Steve Guttenberg end up feeling like a supporting character? And what do we even begin to do with Fisher Stevens’ performance through a modern-day lens? Grab some input. The Truman Show (1998)

This week we tackle one of the most ahead-of-it’s-time movies ever made, The Truman Show. What seemed like a fantasy back in 1998 is most certainly conceivable today. We dive deep into all the important questions - What happened when Truman was looking for some private time as a teenager? Did Meryl and Marlon actually care about Truman? Is Sylvia actually in love with him or was she just all about the cause? Would you choose the real world or SeaHaven? •0:00:00 - Introductions •0:03:00 - Memories of first viewing •0:07:30 - Pertinent movie details •0:12:30 - Critical and fan reviews •0:20:00 - Scene by scene breakdown •1:40:00 - Modern day ratings ———————————————————— LIVE PODCAST- October 10th in Cedar Rapids, IA- https://www.eventbrite.com/e/the-confused-breakfast-a-live-podcast-recording-tickets-1026951990047 —————————————————————— SPONSORS- **Butcher Box- Go to http://butcherbox.com/breakfast to get 20% off your first box plus your choice of free ground beef for life or free chicken thighs on or top sirloins in every box for a year. **Cedar Ridge Distillery- Go check out our sponsor and order some whiskey. http://cedarridgewhiskey.com **K12- See how K12 Powered Schools can help unlock your child’s full potential. Hot Rod (2007)

2007’s Hot Rod. Is this one of the most perfectly stupid comedies of the 2000s, or is it really just a bunch of hilarious Lonely Island sketches loosely stitched together into a movie? Why does Andy Samberg falling down a mountain somehow get funnier the longer it goes? Is “Cool Beans” comedy genius or absolute nonsense? Is Will Arnett the ultimate douchebag boyfriend? Is Danny McBride stealing nearly every scene he’s in? Grab your Jofa helmet, drink some green tea, reinforce the takeoff ramp (or don’t) and prepare to party. Cool beans. •0:00:00 - Introductions •0:03:00 - Memories of first viewing •0:07:30 - Pertinent movie details •0:11:45 - Critical and fan reviews •0:20:00 - Scene by scene breakdown •1:28:00 - Modern day ratings ———————————————————— LIVE PODCAST- October 10th in Cedar Rapids, IA- https://www.eventbrite.com/e/the-confused-breakfast-a-live-podcast-recording-tickets-1026951990047 —————————————————————— SPONSORS- **Butcher Box- Go to http://butcherbox.com/breakfast to get 20% off your first box plus your choice of free ground beef for life or free chicken thighs on or top sirloins in every box for a year. **Cedar Ridge Distillery- Go check out our sponsor and order some whiskey. http://cedarridgewhiskey.com **K12- See how K12 Powered Schools can help unlock your child’s full potential. Rat Race (2001)

We’re racing back to 2001 for Rat Race. Is this an underrated comedy classic, or do you need some serious nostalgia for this kind of dumb, over-the-top slapstick to still work? Does the movie’s decision to keep its foot on the gas for nearly two hours make it more entertaining, or eventually just exhausting? How the hell do these people commit so many felonies and never have the cops come looking for them? And did the Baja Men really think “Rat Race” was going to be their follow-up hit to “Who Let the Dogs Out”? Grab your locker key, stay the hell away from the squirrel lady, and remember: there are no rules. A Clockwork Orange (1971)

We’re ending our Summer of ’70s with one of the most controversial movies we’ve ever covered: A Clockwork Orange. Is this an artsy masterpiece or just shock for the sake of it? Are we supposed to feel sorry for Alex DeLarge? Is Malcolm McDowell giving one of the greatest performances of all time? One of us gives it a perfect 10 and another basically wants to delete it from his library. Can you guess who is who?!?! Animal House (1978)

We’re heading back to Faber College for 1978’s Animal House. Is this still one of the greatest comedies ever made, or has nearly 50 years of changing tastes finally put Delta House on double secret probation? Are the Deltas lovable underdogs fighting the establishment, or are we actually rooting for a bunch of complete assholes? Does John Belushi’s cafeteria scene belong in the physical-comedy Hall of Fame? We tackle all this and more. Grab your toga, fire up the Deathmobile, and remember: fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go through life. •0:00:00 - Introductions •0:02:30 - Memories of first viewing •0:06:00 - Pertinent movie details •0:09:30 - Critical and fan reviews •0:16:00 - Scene by scene breakdown •1:24:00 - Modern day ratings —————————————————————— SPONSORS- **Butcher Box- Go to http://butcherbox.com/breakfast to get 20% off your first box plus your choice of free ground beef for life or free chicken thighs on or top sirloins in every box for a year. **Cedar Ridge Distillery- Go check out our sponsor and order some whiskey. http://cedarridgewhiskey.com **K12- See how K12 Powered Schools can help unlock your child’s full potential. BRUNCH: The Confused Breakfast Joins The Foot Clan in TMNT (PART 1)

This is a very special brunch episode. Camden Griffith is BACK to host an episode where we get to play a game called 'Never Stop Blowing Up' which allows Mike, Sean and AJ to enter the world of 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' and play out the story they way we would like to do it. It's a TTRPG or a game similar to DND and it's a really fun time. Enjoy! This is part 1. Be sure to check out the big finale and part 2 the following week. —————————————————————— SPONSORS- **Cedar Ridge Distillery- Go check out our sponsor and order some whiskey. http://cedarridgewhiskey.com **K12- See how K12 Powered Schools can help unlock your child’s full potential. Rocky II (1979)

On today’s new episode, we dive into Rocky II and ask the big question: is this actually better than the original? We also break down Stallone taking over the director’s chair, Apollo’s wounded pride and hate mail, Adrian’s polarizing storyline, and that absolutely legendary training montage through Philly. •0:00:00 - Introductions •0:02:30 - Memories of first viewing •0:06:00 - Pertinent movie details •0:09:30 - Critical and fan reviews •0:15:00 - Scene by scene breakdown •1:29:00 - Modern day ratings —————————————————————— SPONSORS- **ASPCA- To learn more about Pet Health Insurance, visit http://aspcapetinsurance.com/breakfast **Cedar Ridge Distillery- Go check out our sponsor and order some whiskey. http://cedarridgedistillery.com **K12- See how K12 Powered Schools can help unlock your child’s full potential. BRUNCH: Talking Super Troopers 3 with Broken Lizard!!

Go see SUPER TROOPERS 3 this weekend! Not only did we love the movie, but we also had an incredible interview with the Broken Lizard crew. We dig into the “What if Farva married your sister?” idea, wild Brian Cox stories, improv insanity, and why they’re hellbent on cramming a laugh into every single page. If you miss packed theaters laughing at hard‑R comedies, this episode will convince you to get off the couch, grab a liter of cola, and see Super Troopers 3 on the big screen. —————————————————————— SPONSORS- **Cedar Ridge Distillery- Go check out our sponsor and order some whiskey. http://cedarridgewhiskey.com **QUINCE- Download the Quince app for app-exclusive offers, or go to http://Quince.com/confused . Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977)

Our month of 70’s movies kicks off with an absolute classic. Close Encounters of the Third Kind was a revolutionary film and we do a deep, modern-day dive. Is Roy Neary one of the worst dad/husbands in movie history? Did you know Carl Weathers was in this movie? How about Old Man Marley? Ever had a third-wheel like Larry? We touch on all of this and so much more! •0:00:00 - Introductions •0:02:00 - Memories of first viewing •0:05:30 - Pertinent movie details •0:11:00 - Critical and fan reviews •0:19:00 - Scene by scene breakdown •1:43 :00 - Modern day ratings —————————————————————— SPONSORS- **Cedar Ridge Distillery- Go check out our sponsor and order some whiskey. http://cedarridgewhiskey.com **QUINCE- Download the Quince app for app-exclusive offers, or go to http://Quince.com/confused . BRUNCH: Hey Dude! The 90's Called with Christine Taylor and David Lascher

’90s Nickelodeon kids, this one’s for you. Christine Taylor and David Lascher from Hey Dude, The 90s Called are here to talk about shooting Nickelodeon’s first live-action show on a real dude ranch and why Hey Dude is better for kids than what’s on TV now. We swap desert-island VHS picks, dig into the most underrated Ben Stiller movie, and Christine actually names the one Ben Stiller film she never wants to watch again. She also drops a completely insane Tom Cruise home-movie story that you have to hear to believe. —————————————————————— SPONSORS- **Cedar Ridge Distillery- Go check out our sponsor and order some whiskey. http://cedarridgewhiskey.com **K12- See how K12 Powered Schools can help unlock your child’s full potential. Rumble in the Bronx (1995)

When you think of this movie, you don’t remember the plot – you remember the first time you realized a real human being was actually doing all that insane stunt work on your VHS copy. Is this the most believable “one guy vs. twenty dudes” fighting ever put on film? Does the awful dubbing ruin the vibe, or is it secretly the thing that makes this movie so endlessly rewatchable? Is Elaine the most brutally screwed shop owner we’ve ever covered? We tackle all of this and more as we decide whether Rumble in the Bronx actually holds up… or if we’re just here to watch Jackie Chan hit people with refrigerators. •0:00:00 - Introductions •0:02:30 - Memories of first viewing •0:06:00 - Pertinent movie details •0:10:00 - Critical and fan reviews •0:16 :00 - Scene by scene breakdown •1:33 :00 - Modern day ratings —————————————————————— SPONSORS- **Cedar Ridge Distillery- Go check out our sponsor and order some whiskey. http://cedarridgewhiskey.com **K12- See how K12 Powered Schools can help unlock your child’s full potential.
