Susan & Tilly Bridges Rewrote STAR TREK: VOYAGER'S Ending | Homecoming

Jace sits down at San Diego Comic-Con with writers Susan and Tilly Bridges to talk about Star Trek: Voyager — Homecoming and what it meant to essentially create a new ending for one of Star Trek's most beloved series. Susan and Tilly discuss meeting through Star Trek fan fiction, how their very different personalities shape their writing partnership, why Star Trek's hopeful and inclusive worldview remains fundamental to the franchise, and the challenges marginalized writers still face within the entertainment industry. They also break down the decision to bring Species 8472 back for Homecoming, expanding the species and its culture beyond what Voyager could show on television, the fan response to finally seeing the Voyager crew return home, and why five issues of reunions and hugs probably wasn't going to satisfy IDW. Plus, they talk about writing for Star Trek Adventures, the unpredictable creativity of tabletop players, and their graphic novel Just Another Summer. Why This Lois Lane Story Matters More Than Ever with Richard Ashley Hamilton

Greg Rucka and Mike Perkins' LOIS LANE series was acclaimed when it originally released, but rereading it today makes its questions about journalism, truth, power and accountability feel more relevant than ever. Jace is joined by writer Richard Ashley Hamilton, creator of SCOOP, to revisit all 12 issues and examine one major idea from each chapter of the series. They discuss the difference between journalists and investigators, whether the truth should always be published, what keeps reporters honest, the danger of becoming part of the story, maintaining objectivity when a story becomes personal, Lois Lane's relationship with Superman, the series' complicated connections to DC continuity and the multiverse, and what success in journalism actually means when exposing the truth doesn't necessarily lead to justice. Richard also discusses how Greg Rucka influenced his own work on SCOOP, Sophie's evolution as a journalist, and what a dream crossover between Sophie and Lois Lane might look like. Comic Source Weekly September 2, 2026 — Ed Brubaker Sued, Absolute Batman Hits 487K & X-Force Goes Fugitive: The Comic Source

The biggest comic-industry story of the week centers on serious allegations against Ed Brubaker stemming from the production of Amazon's Criminal, with Jace breaking down what has been alleged, what is actually known, and why judgment needs to wait for more facts. Also this week, Absolute Batman #24 reportedly approaches an extraordinary 487,000 orders as Barbara Gordon becomes The Bat, DC reveals Batman Day 2026, Marvel transforms Inglourious X-Force into Fugitive X-Force, Indiana Jones discovers Marvel artifacts, and Jace looks at Disney's Marvel acquisition 17 years later. Image and Ghost Machine bring updates for Ice Cream Man, Red Roots, Rook: Exodus, Geiger, Creature Corps, the Energon Universe, Spawn 77, Savage Dragon and Crowbound. BAD IDEA adds Seth Green to It Demands Sacrifice, launches Warbird, and unveils new The Detective covers, while Danny Trejo's Year of the Devil, the Soulfire Timeline Omnibus and Netflix's six newly optioned comic properties round out the news. Jace then makes eight What Hit predictions, counts down the Prana Top 10, goes 7-for-8 on last week's predictions, and finishes with Final Order Cutoff—including the highly unusual fact that there are no Marvel single issues on FOC this week. That absence is explicitly called out in the finished recording as something Jace cannot remember seeing before. DC Spotlight September 2, 2026 Superman Pushes Himself Too Far, Legion Hunts a Killer & Weird Al Embraces the Weird Description

Jace and Rocky break down all 13 DC releases for the week of September 2, 2026. Batgirl #23 finds Cassandra Cain racing through a Gotham overrun by the Parliament of Trees while badly injured herself, determined to get a poisoned girl to the antidote that can save her life. Rather than advancing the larger Bad Seeds plot, the tie-in keeps the focus on Cassandra and her supporting cast, making the event feel more like the backdrop for a Batgirl story than an interruption of one. Batman #13 has Batman fighting his way through the GCPD to confront Vandal Savage, but the detour into Bad Seeds largely puts Matt Fraction's ongoing Batman story on hold. There are entertaining moments of Batman tearing through corrupt officers and demanding they do better for Gotham, but very little actually happens and the momentum from the previous issue's mystery is left waiting for the crossover to get out of the way. JSA #23 jumps into the largely unexplored years after the Justice Society was forced out of public life, with Wildcat, Hourman and Doctor Mid-Nite recruited for a secret Cold War mission behind enemy lines. The period setting and espionage premise immediately feel like a natural fit for the JSA, delivering one of the strongest issues of the run just as the series is approaching its end. 100 Bullets: The U.S. of Anger #3 remains frustratingly difficult to decipher three issues in, even for Rocky as a reader of the original 100 Bullets. The anger and division suggested by the title are certainly present, and the two hate-spewing podcasters provide one of the issue's more recognizable ideas, but neither Jace nor Rocky can determine what Brian Azzarello ultimately wants the story to say. Absolute Green Lantern #18 sees Simon Baz and Agent Zero finally escape the strange space where they have both been trapped and emerge in front of Cameron Chase, who appears to know exactly what has been happening. After eighteen issues of deliberately opaque mythology surrounding the Absolute Spectrum, Manhunters and its different colors and concepts, Chase's promise that "now we get the answers" offers the clearest indication yet that the series may finally start bringing its mysteries together. Absolute Superman #23 brings Superman's relentless pursuit of Brainiac into conflict with Toyman and forces his absolute belief in the sanctity of life into one of its most difficult tests yet. Jason Aaron continues pushing a young Superman who believes he must save absolutely everyone, suggesting that his refusal to accept his own limitations may eventually become as dangerous to him as any villain he faces. Batman/Superman: World's Finest — World's Weirdest #1 pulls Batman and Superman into the wonderfully bizarre world of Weird Al Yankovic in a whimsical story built around a surprisingly sincere message: be yourself, be true to yourself and embrace whatever makes you weird. It's far more fantastical than the type of story Jace usually gravitates toward, but the humor, artwork and genuine Weird Al sensibility make the concept work. Legion of Super-Heroes #1 begins with R.J. Brande's dream of bringing young heroes from across the galaxy together surviving his apparent murder as Brainiac 5 and Matter-Eater Lad investigate what happened to him. Joshua Williamson and Hayden Sherman reinvent the Legion from the ground up while retaining recognizable pieces of its history, including Lightning Lad's love of ancient Superboy comics, and use the mystery surrounding Brande to begin bringing this new generation together. Supergirl: Survived #4 has Kara and a young Kal-El spending much of the issue discovering what their Kryptonian powers can do beneath a yellow sun before encountering Brainiac 5, who may provide the means to finally continue their journey toward Earth. The story is heavily decompressed, but the relationship between Kara and Kal remains its strength while the increasingly unexpected assortment of DC concepts continues giving the series its own identity. Teen Titans #1 finds Jason Todd's search for a child missing for nine days colliding with a group of young heroes conducting their own investigation into their missing friend. Proximity, Fair Play, Cheshire Cat, Wild Card and Eugene Choi aren't actually a superhero team yet—the name Teen Titans began as little more than their online group chat—but their unlikely connection with Jason creates a distinctly modern starting point for Kyle Higgins' new take on the concept. Deadman #4 sends Boston Brand toward Heaven demanding answers about why the souls he has been helping aren't necessarily destined to stay there, only to receive an unexpected lesson about the value of giving someone even a brief moment of hope. The idea gives Deadman a renewed sense of purpose, but neither Jace nor Rocky feels the philosophical detour has enough to say to justify how far the series has moved from the character they know. Doom Patrol #1 introduces a broke Doom Patrol wandering from place to place taking whatever work they can get, including a seemingly mundane job searching for a missing cat. The bizarre visuals certainly fit the team's reputation for weirdness, but the story offers little sense of direction or connection to the previous Doom Patrol run, leaving both Jace and Rocky disappointed by an opening issue that feels far less interesting than its characters should be. Finally, Superman: The Stranger #1 drops Superman into a Black Label world reminiscent of Depression-era America, delivering a visually striking reinterpretation whose gritty setting immediately distinguishes it from the main DC Universe. The artwork is the issue's greatest strength, while the story itself feels familiar enough that Jace is waiting to see whether Wes Craig can push the concept somewhere more original as the series develops. Jace and Rocky also cover this week's collected editions before ranking all 13 books and revealing their Books of the Week. Steve Skroce on TALES OF WONDER, Comic Book Feuds & Making Superheroes Real

Steve Skroce joins Jace on The Comic Source to talk about TALES OF WONDER, his new creator-owned superhero series from Image Comics and Skybound. Two legendary comic creators whose friendship was destroyed by decades of bad blood suddenly discover that the superheroes and villains they created weren't so fictional after all. Steve talks about turning comic-book history, creator rivalries and convention culture into a larger-than-life superhero adventure, and why Galaxy Quest, Tropic Thunder and The Three Amigos helped inspire the tone. He also discusses writing and drawing the series himself, working with Skybound and editor Ben Abernathy, designing America's Freedom Force, finding the voices of Stu and Jake, and balancing satire of the comics industry with a genuine celebration of the medium. Plus, Steve discusses his experience working with creators including Brian K. Vaughan and reflects on why the real emotional heart of Tales of Wonder is friendship, collaboration and the possibility of getting a second chance. DC Spotlight August 26, 2026 Superman Faces a Shocking Turn, Flash Goes Too Far & DC's Heroes Start to Divide

Jace and Rocky break down all 14 DC releases for the week of August 26, 2026. Batman: Bad Seeds — Sunset #1 begins the Bad Seeds event with Poison Ivy handing Gotham over to the Parliament of Trees in exchange for immunity over the death of Bog Venus, but the spectacle-heavy crossover immediately strips away much of the nuance that has made G. Willow Wilson's Poison Ivy run so strong. Justice League Unlimited #22 briefly gives Mr. Terrific the combined powers of the Justice League while Blue Beetle quietly assembles heroes who suspect Batman, Wonder Woman and the League leadership may have been compromised by Darkseid, as the amnesty granted to supervillains creates legitimate distrust inside and outside the League. Detective Comics #1112 brings Batman, Green Arrow and Black Canary to the truth surrounding Prion's death and an emotional decision about whether that truth should ever be revealed. Poison Ivy #47 accelerates Pamela's fall as she loses Harley, alienates Janet from HR, loses Vandal Savage as an ally and watches Peter Undine take control of the Knights of the Green Order before making a desperate bargain with the Parliament of Trees. Zatanna #5 takes Zatanna into the Hidden City as Jamal Campbell continues expanding the magical rules, rituals and mythology surrounding her role as Prime Magus. Absolute Wonder Woman #23 finds Diana singularly focused on locating Barbara Minerva without realizing Barbara has willingly become the Cheetah, while Zeus calls upon a reluctant Ares as part of an unknown plan against Wonder Woman and Veronica Cale's daughter becomes increasingly important to the larger mystery. Absolute Catwoman #3 reunites Selina with Holly and Helena Bertinelli as the story moves between their present-day mission and their earlier days as the Calicos, including a mysterious list connected to Cain and the reality-altering technology known as the Yarn. The Flash #36 has Wally expanding his attempt to prevent crime before it happens into Metropolis, prompting Green Arrow to finally confront him over how invasive and dangerous that level of intervention has become and quietly gather other heroes to discuss whether Wally has crossed a line. Green Lantern #38 forces Kyle Rayner to confront the amnesty granted to Major Force before swinging into a bizarre battle involving Condiment King, FEAST and Big Belly Burger's corporate mascots, while Hal Jordan's separate space storyline with Jana continues. Superman: Father of Tomorrow #4 continues raising uncomfortable questions about Jor-El's attempts to guide Earth's technological development while introducing Hex Luthor, a Lex who abandoned science for magic and demonstrates just how dangerous that choice has made him. Superman #41 escalates Superman's battle with Zod under the effects of kryptonite as the Kingdom of Zod story takes a major and genuinely unexpected turn, dramatically shifting the balance of power and opening a new direction involving Ursa, the Kryptonian forces and the time machine already established in the larger Superman continuity. Harley Quinn #65 concludes the Harq Knight Returns arc with Harley's two halves merging back together with little explanation before repositioning her for the upcoming Bad Seeds story with Poison Ivy. Black Tower: The Raven Conspiracy #1 introduces Daniel Burroughs, an intelligence operative with statistically abnormal psychic instincts, as Ram V blends espionage, psychic phenomena and occult mystery into a strong Vertigo debut. Finally, Next Level One Shot #1 sends Deadshot on what appears to be a straightforward assassination job only for him to discover a much larger conspiracy involving people who may literally not be themselves, potentially laying the groundwork for both a new Suicide Squad and a larger Next Level crossover. Jace and Rocky also cover this week's collected editions before ranking all 14 books and revealing their Books of the Week. Saving New York Comics: Bryce Gold on BODEGA & the Brooklyn Expo of Comics

New York helped give birth to the American comic book industry, but keeping working cartoonists and artists in the city has become increasingly difficult. Jace sits down with Bryce Gold to talk about BODEGA — the Brooklyn Organization Dedicated to the Endurance of the Graphic Arts — and its mission to build a stronger support system for New York's comics community. Bryce explains how BODEGA grew from an effort to revive the spirit of Comic Arts Brooklyn into something much larger, including the Brooklyn Expo of Comics, artist support programs, educational opportunities, grants, publications and new ways for creators and fans to build a lasting community. They also discuss why Brooklyn remains such an important part of comics history, the increasing affordability challenges facing working artists, the importance of creative third spaces, and how relationships formed through local comics events can change careers and lives. Bryce also previews the Brooklyn Expo of Comics, taking place November 14–15 in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, with more than 130 exhibitors and a full week of comics-related programming leading into the event. DC Spotlight August 19, 2026 Flash Faces His Rogues, Deathstroke Hits Bottom & Green Arrow's Identity Mystery Deepens

Jace and Rocky break down all 13 DC releases for the week of August 19, 2026. Dark Knights of Steel #2 finds Amanda Waller's machinations continuing as an illness threatens Kara and the House of El, while Barbara Gordon serves as a literal Oracle and the developing relationship between Kal-El and Lois adds another layer to Tom Taylor's expanding fantasy world. Lobo #6 sends Lobo to Hell to battle the Tooth Fairy in an intentionally ridiculous detour, but the issue feels disconnected from the characters and plot threads Scotty Young had carried forward from the previous arc, making the story feel unusually disposable. End of Life #7 sees Eddie's attempt to do something genuinely good by rescuing a kidnapped kid land him in the hands of the killers hunting him, and after escaping another brutal beating he discovers Little Cock has finally caught up with him looking for revenge over the death of Big Cock. Beneath all the absurd violence and comedy, Eddie's relationship with his dying father continues to give the series a surprisingly human core. Deathstroke the Terminator #6 escalates Adeline's revenge from murdering Wintergreen to trying to kill Rose, forcing an already battered Slade into a confrontation with his ex-wife. Slade survives, but the real damage is psychological: stripped of his identity as the world's greatest assassin, he is left wondering what remains if he is no longer a "killer for hire" and is simply a killer. Catwoman #90 finally gives Maggie Kyle the chance to confront Black Mask and use a nerve agent against the man who murdered her husband and traumatized her, but what should have been a powerful moment of Maggie reclaiming her agency feels frustratingly abrupt and underdeveloped. The conclusion also leaves the fates of Black Mask and Katarina Belova open while Carmine Falcone remains firmly embedded in Selina's increasingly complicated family story. New Titans #38 brings Static to Titans Mountain while he struggles to control his powers, Yara Flor begins experiencing visions of her Amazonian homeland and Stephanie Brown continues growing into a leadership role. There are plenty of potentially interesting threads, but with so many characters competing for space, the issue feels disjointed and several of the Titans come across as noticeably younger and less experienced than their recent portrayals. Batman/Superman: World's Finest #54 drags Batman, Superman and their fellow heroes into Hell for a baseball game against its denizens in a deliberately absurd one-and-done that recalls DC's old Super-Sports stories. Mark Waid makes the ridiculous premise work, although for an actual baseball story, Jace wanted considerably more baseball. Absolute Flash #18 keeps expanding Wally's world as Absolute Hunter Zolomon, Director Bones and Eleanor Thawne all enter the picture, while Eleanor genuinely believes the Absolute Justice League are the good guys. Ralph Dibny may also have just experienced the event that gives him his powers, setting up a potentially wild confrontation between Wally, Abra Kadabra and Hunter Zolomon. Batwoman #6 flashes back through most of its story to events before the series began, clarifying how Kate and Beth reached the point where their stories diverged, before the final pages return to the present after Kate has rescued her sister. The added context helps explain some of the confusion from the first five issues, although ending with both sisters seeing the same psychiatrist still leaves the series in an unusual place moving forward. Absolute Green Arrow #4 provides more context for Absolute Oliver Queen's values and creates a stark contrast with Hector Hammond's depravity, while a terrifying Absolute Solomon Grundy enters the picture and Dinah Lance appears increasingly close to manifesting powers of her own. The lingering question remains whether the mysterious Green Arrow can actually be Oliver at all when Hammond claims Oliver Queen died and attempts to resurrect him failed. Nightwing #131 has Dick preparing to turn himself in over the catastrophic bridge accident no one believes was caused by a witch, only for another woman to suddenly confess to being the witch herself. That apparent manipulation deepens the supernatural mystery as events from Blüdhaven's past continue reaching into the present and Nightwing remains caught in the middle. Wonder Woman #36 continues Steve Trevor's telling of the story of the woman he loves to his daughter as Stephanie Williams retells Diana's origin with strong Clayton Henry artwork. There is little here that substantially changes the familiar story, but framing it through Steve sharing Diana's history with a daughter who is equal parts Steve and Diana gives the retelling some added emotional resonance. Finally, Superman Unlimited #16 pushes the Kingdom of Zod event forward at full speed as the Superman family rallies against Zod, including the first meeting between Mark Waid's current Superboy and Supergirl. Superman and Zod eventually suit up for a battle that is still raging when the issue ends, making this chapter feel less like a self-contained story and more like one sustained piece of a much larger action sequence. Doug Wagner Talks I Love Apocalyptic Zombie Misfits, Murder Chickens & His Creative Partnership With Daniel Hillyard

Doug Wagner joins Jace on The Comic Source for an in-depth conversation about I Love Apocalyptic Zombie Misfits, his latest collaboration with artist Daniel Hillyard. The project began when Hillyard gave Wagner a list of supernatural things he wanted to draw — slashers, vampires, zombies and more — and Wagner eventually came to the simplest possible conclusion: why choose? Do all of them. The resulting story follows Cecil, a pacifist from the 1980s reincarnated into the body of a supernatural slasher, on a road trip alongside an increasingly bizarre group of supernatural misfits attempting to prevent either Heaven or Hell from winning a battle that would wipe humanity out. Doug talks about why character always comes before plot in his work, how he and Hillyard keep even their most violent and absurd stories grounded in emotional sincerity, and how characters including Pavla, Yoel and the zombie truck Tuck continued evolving while they created the book. The conversation also looks back at Wagner and Hillyard's collaborations on Plastic, Vinyl, Plush and Narco and how years of working together have created a level of trust that allows Hillyard to interpret layouts, camera angles and even character moments without Wagner dictating every detail. Wagner recalls moments where Hillyard added something that wasn't in the original script and actually changed the way Wagner understood his own character. Then it's a deep dive into the crowdfunding campaign: the oversized hardcover, die-cut Murder Chicken slipcase, complete behind-the-scenes process companion, Chris Bachalo artwork and an Uno-inspired Murder Chickens card game Wagner unexpectedly designed and play-tested with his wife. And before wrapping up, Doug reveals that I Love Apocalyptic Zombie Misfits is already completely finished — and he and Daniel Hillyard have already finished their next two books as well. 🐔 Support I Love Apocalyptic Zombie Misfits on Kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/cloverpress/i-love-apocalyptic-zombie-misfits-ogn-by-wagner-and-hillyard?ref=9npbkr 🔗 Doug Wagner: https://shocknoggin.com/ 📸 Doug Wagner on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/doug.wagner13/ 📸 Daniel Hillyard on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/danielbhillyard/ 🔗 Find The Comic Source everywhere: https://linktr.ee/comicsource CHAPTERS 00:00 Doug Wagner Joins The Comic Source 02:08 I Love Apocalyptic Zombie Misfits 07:39 Character First — Even With Serial Killers 10:43 Building an Ensemble of Misfits 13:08 How the Characters Changed 15:08 Meet Tuck — The Zombie Truck 17:45 The Origin of the Murder Chickens 20:51 Wagner & Hillyard's Creative Partnership 25:16 When Daniel Hillyard Makes the Story Better 30:07 Heaven, Hell & Saving Humanity 32:15 The Oversized Kickstarter Hardcover 35:09 The Complete Process Companion Book 37:56 Chris Bachalo Joins the Project 39:16 The Murder Chickens Card Game 41:39 Two More Books Are Already Finished 42:36 Where to Follow Doug Wagner 43:41 Letting the Book Speak for Itself 44:11 Doug Wagner's "20-Year Overnight Success" 46:23 Final Thoughts

DC Spotlight August 12, 2026 Aquaman Humiliates Poseidon, Batman Is Losing Himself & Lois Lane Stalls Zod

Jace and Rocky break down all 11 DC releases for the week of August 12, 2026. In Green Lantern Corps #19, Guy Gardner brings the Lanterns bonded to the emotional entities together around a new idea: their individual emotions remain distinct, but they may now be able to draw on the entire emotional spectrum when they need it. In Barbara Gordon: Breakout #4, Barbara finally meets one of the innocent people she entered prison to find—a cop locked up for refusing to play along with Vandal Savage—while Sparrow's murder gives the story some badly needed forward momentum. In Clayface: Celebrity Dirt #2, someone is impersonating Clayface, and his attempt to uncover who is behind it becomes much more personal when a friend he confides in is murdered. In Fury of Firestorm #5, Firehawk briefly reaches the Ronnie Raymond trapped inside the Firestorm Matrix, but Professor Stein's reaction when the sentient Matrix calls him "father" raises new questions about whether his supposed remorse was ever genuine. In Emperor Aquaman #20, Arthur moves his fight with Poseidon away from Earth so he can finally cut loose, and the God of the Sea gets a firsthand demonstration of just how terrifyingly powerful Aquaman has become. In Absolute Batman #23, Bruce's obsession with Jack Grimm has reached the point where he believes virtually every defining moment in his life was deliberately engineered, leaving his oldest friends wondering whether Batman has gone too far. The Nice House by the Sea #11, the penultimate issue of the second arc, finally delivers major answers and forward momentum for the larger mystery while still making the revelation involving Oliver land through the character drama that has defined the series. In Supergirl #16, still believing Superman is missing, Kara takes responsibility for the House of El as Zod's larger plan begins coming into focus and a female Eradicator unexpectedly enters the conflict. In Bleeding Hearts #7, Poke's growing bond with Rabbit and her mother shows him becoming increasingly human, but that fragile connection is threatened when Rabbit is grievously injured by one of the undead. In Batman and Robin: Year One — Dynamic Duos #1, a young Bruce nearly loses control when a group of kids mug him and his date, while an encounter with the Wolfpack gives him another early lesson in becoming the Batman he will eventually be. In Action Comics #1101, Lois Lane proves why she is a Pulitzer-winning reporter by getting under General Zod's skin, probing for his real agenda and deliberately keeping him talking because she knows he may be planning to kill her. Meanwhile, Superman has returned, but will it be just to face defeat at the hands of Zod? Jace and Rocky also cover the week's collected editions, reprints and facsimiles before ranking all 11 books and revealing their Books of the Week. Morgan Hampton Reveals What's Really Behind Guy Gardner's Attitude in Green Lantern Corps SDCC 2026

Morgan Hampton joins Jace at the DC booth during San Diego Comic-Con 2026 to talk about his run on Green Lantern Corps and the character-first approach that has helped him put a new spotlight on Guy Gardner. Morgan explains why Guy's abrasive personality is really a mask, how digging into the character's history completely changed the way he feels about writing him, and why he wanted to explore what exists underneath all that attitude. They also dive into the ambitious landscape-format issue, the black-hole concept that allowed Morgan to experiment with space and time on the page, expanding the emotional spectrum and turning its entities into characters rather than abstract concepts, the challenge of juggling Green Lantern Corps' enormous cast and why the series could be an accessible entry point for new readers discovering the Green Lantern universe. Robert Kirkman Expands the Energon Universe With ROM, M.A.S.K. & Transformers

The Energon Universe isn't slowing down. At San Diego Comic-Con 2026, The Comic Source went inside the Skybound press room for an extended conversation with Robert Kirkman, Void Rivals artist Conor Hughes and Skybound publisher Sean Mackiewicz about the past, present and future of the interconnected universe. Kirkman discusses rebuilding ROM for a new continuity, including the research he did into the character's Marvel history and why he worried ROM's damaged appearance could be interpreted the wrong way. Hughes explains why that damage represents sacrifice and "scars of war," while Mackiewicz details how ROM and M.A.S.K. became part of Skybound's larger Energon plans. The conversations also reveal that Matt Trakker was included in Skybound's original pitch to Hasbro and was once intended to appear in Duke before Clutch ultimately filled that role. Mackiewicz and Kirkman both tease major developments beginning in M.A.S.K. #3, while Kirkman discusses the Energon Universe animated project currently in development and his hope that the comics may eventually reach their own version of the story represented by 1986's The Transformers: The Movie. And when asked whether there's a limit to how far the Energon Universe can expand, Mackiewicz's answer is simple: "no limits." 00:00 – Kirkman Teases the Energon Universe's Transformers: The Movie 00:12 – Sean Mackiewicz on M.A.S.K., ROM & Expanding Energon 02:40 – How ROM & M.A.S.K. ROBERT KIRKMAN BUILDS A NEW SUPERHERO UNIVERSE

Robert Kirkman is building an expansive new superhero universe with Terminal, and at San Diego Comic-Con Jace from The Comic Source sat down in the press room with Kirkman, Andy Kubert, Arthur Adams and David Finch to talk about what makes the series different. Kirkman discusses the influence of '90s X-Men and the desire to bring that same bold, in-your-face energy back to superhero comics, while creating two opposing factions where readers may not immediately know who the heroes and villains actually are. The conversation explores Kirkman and Joe Casey's long-term plans for a story designed to dramatically evolve by issues #12, #25 and even #50, Arthur Adams returning to interior work, David Finch tackling a different visual world after Skinbreaker, and Andy Kubert balancing the energy of his classic X-Men work with everything he has learned since. Kirkman also explains why Terminal may be his most collaborative individual comic yet, with Kubert, Adams and Finch contributing character designs, influencing one another's work and being given the freedom to change pacing, layouts and even expand moments from the script when they see a better visual solution. Plus, Kirkman addresses comparisons to The Walking Dead, why he wants Terminal to become its own thing rather than "the next" anything, and why making the best comic possible will always come before thinking about potential film, television or animation adaptations.
