Westwood Ho!
Perhaps we should have separated it into two episodes rather than one the length of Ben Hur, but this week - as well as the usual golf news and general inanities - Andrew, Eddie and Iain are joined by Lee Westwood to talk about life and Liv. Once he has gone, talk turns to how best to split logs and what is the quickest route from Oxford to Worksop. We know it is a very long episode. Genesis and Exodus
This week the trio are in reflective mood after an Eddie-less Korean climax to the regular DP World Tour schedule, which saw him slip to 101st in the rankings and miss out on a full card for next season. The man himself has no regrets about not playing and is full of praise for Sean Crocker, whose stunning back nine of 29 on Sunday moved him above Eddie into the magical 100th position. There is plenty of discussion about Eddie's ambitions and his next moves, which don't include a trip to Q-School but do include the possibility of a final round pairing with Charles Howell III in Mauritius. LIV desertions feature in the conversation, as well as a curious bonus payments for the CEO. Meanwhile Iain considers who is worthy of a place in the World Golf Hall of Fame and Eddie comes up with a cautionary tale of why video might not be good for the podcast. The Korea Conundrum
In a bafflingly long pod episode featuring just two people, Andrew and Iain convene to pick over the bones of Eddie's efforts in India, which contained all the highs and lows of his season just as it came to an end. They debate his decision not to play in Korea, even though it almost certainly means missing out a full Tour card. There is also debate about large trousers, the responsibility of the games big stars to travel the world, and which is a bigger waste of money: LIV golf or the Butterfield Championship? Hope Springs Eddernal
This week Eddie joins Andrew and Iain in the midst of his packing for an unexpected trip to India, as his season continues and with it his chance of earning a full card for next season. The three review the Open De Espana, where Eddie fought for every precious point and Grant Forrest saved his season with a dramatic victory. Eddie talks openly about the pressure he is feeling as well as what he is having to do to get his injured body through the test. There is also mention of the bright young talent of Michael Brennan after his third PGA Tour victory, as well as the even younger talent of Blades Brown. There is also time for a discussion on the new tactics of the DP World Tour, getting tougher with LIV, as well as consideration of the important question: 'if Eddie were a football team, which one would he be?' 101 Not Out
Disclaimer - Eddie is still full of drugs. However, he is lucid enough to recall and review his performance at the Alfred Dunhill Links where he battled to make the cut but still slipped just outside the crucial top-100 in the rankings. Yet dramatic news reaches us that he has been offered a place in the Spanish Open this week. Just before packing he, Iain and Andrew are able to reflect on Adrian Meronk's win in St Andrews as well as a remarkable performance by Michael Stewart. They also discuss Tom Kim's military avoiding win at the Asian Games, talk a bit about daylight savings time and Iain mentions a trip to Cornwall. Presidents, Pain Killers and The Ghost Ship of Golf.
Three men in three countries and plenty of rambling this week as Andrew, Eddie and Iain convene to discuss events at the Presidents Cup, where the USA won by their now habitual method of storming the singles. They look back on the French Open where Matt Fitzpatrick continued his impressive year and Eddie gives us an update on his injury, preparing for one of his favourite events of the year as the clock ticks on his season. Andrew then decides to tell a story of intrigue, oil money and the SAS - all wrapped up in a golf course where nobody but Henrik Stenson occasionally plays. Spaun Doolicks and Manuel Labour
A two-ball this week as Andrew is forced to miss the tee-time, so there is far less ramble and much more weighty chat from Eddie and Iain as they look back on a dramatic finish to the BMW PGA at Wentworth. JJ Spaun took the title and firmly made his point to Brandt Snedeker after omission from the USA side, while Manuel Elvira emphatically made the point that pressure can make you look like a bit of a tool in golf. Eddie is able to offer an update on his own golfing status as he battles a neck problem and also a problem with late-night tweeting while taking medical-grade painkillers, but then doubles down as we discover what Bryson's homecoming actually means. Solheim, Shane and Pain
The trio gather this week in something of a torpor, induced either by long waking hours or by tranquilisers. There is an update on Eddie's withdrawal from the Irish Open and subsequent treatment, before the mood is lightened by reflections on Europe's victory in the Solheim Cup. There is also discussion of the two different sides of Shane Lowry on display as he romped to a record win at Doonbeg. To give some much needed energy to proceedings, Iain tells a story about a queue. The Walker Cup of Earthly Delights
Well, what a Walker Cup that was. Andrew and Iain have made their respective early flights back from the south-west of Ireland and join Eddie to discuss one of the most dramatic events, not just in golf or indeed sport, but in the history of human kind. We hope that does it justice. There is obvious praise for the GB & I side and discussion of who might have the most success in the professional game. Speaking of which, we also review events in the Alps where Thriston Lawrence showed that there actually is something better than a fit PC as he took down Paul Casey on the fourth extra-hole. Eddie gives us his thoughts on his own form as he looks forward to a meeting with the Don at the Irish Open and Andrew and Iain look forward to a trip to The Netherlands for the Solheim Cup. Bosch... The Fast and The Curious
A slightly delayed episode with Eddie making his way to the mountains and Iain having a similarly difficult journey to a car hire depot. But it has given all three extra time to reflect on The British Masters at The Belfry, where Eddie grafted his way through four rounds and Joe Dean earned his maiden Tour win in style. Further reflections are offered on Scottie Scheffler's dominance at the Tour Championship and musings on whether Viktor Hovland might just be too curious about the world to reach the very highest level in the game. There's other stuff as well, but we're just keen to get it published as soon as possible. Bagels and Rocky Road
This week, the usual trio are spiced up by a bit of Andy Murray who tells us tales of his actual hole-in-one which absolutely definitely did happen. The tennis guy also offers sage advice for Eddie after walking off the course and his subsequent decision to take on a coach. There's a review of the Nexo Championship where Scott Jamieson took the title and Shaun Norris was victim of the ruling that few people had heard of. Meanwhile Wyndham Clark demonstrated again why he's a rival to Scheffler for player of the season and Rory showed us a return to form. Finally, if not dead, LIV golf is certainly quite unwell and the three have their say on where things could and should go from here as well as wondering if they should make friends with automated mowers as a way of ensuring decent treatment by our robotic overlords in the not too distant future. The Death of Realised Dreams
This week Eddie reveals the tale behind his missed cut in Denmark, struggling with illness but still finding something to give him encouragement moving forward. There is quite the achievement at the US Amateur to discuss as Jack Whaley provides a rare British win, while Scottie Scheffler ends his drought with a flood of birdies in Memphis. At the same tournament Rory McIlroy's form gives him cause for concern and we prepare ourselves for the dream pro-am line-up in Aberdeen. Play-offs, Pranks and Picks
Andrew is still hunting for a wayward drive somewhere, so Iain and Eddie once again hold the fort and bid farewell to major golf for the year with a round-up of The AIG Women's Open. There's plenty of discussion of the dramatic finish as Esther Henseleit holed a monster putt to take it into a play-off, then saw a cruel human ricochet end her hopes with Shiho Kuwaki keeping the title in Japanese hands. There are reflections on the performances of Lottie Woad and Charley Hull, while offering thoughts on Charley's caddy prank, before both Eddie and Iain then realise they are in no position to criticise. There is then discussion of the Solheim Cup as Europe's captain Anna Nordqvist finalises her team, a review of The Rocket Classic on the PGA Tour as another young gun gets firing and Eddie contemplates his own return to competitive golf. Jacksons, Majors and Apologies.
With Andrew taking a break the two-ball of Eddie and Iain tackle all of golf’s biggest talking points: the state of Project Badger, the PGA Tour’s newest superstar and why the Korean winner of the women’s Scottish Open speaks with an Aussie accent. Iain gives his verdict on LIV Golf’s latest event and Eddie tries to guess who handed over the trophy at the Seniors Open. Eddie also expresses some regret about something. Hosted on Acast. The Greatest Week in Golf
It's only in publishing this episode that we have noticed this is episode 200 of TCF. It is a) remarkable that it has lasted this long and b) it seems appropriate that this milestone marks the start of Open Championship week. Iain is at Birkdale with Andrew about to arrive and Eddie is in between trips to the local farm shop, so all of them gather to reflect on the Scottish Open, the Evian Championship and even the Isco - God bless it - before turning their attention to The Open itself. Plenty more to come this week... Brought to you by: www.petermillar.co.uk And by: www.ping.com Email: tcf@thechippingforecast.co.uk Instagram: @chippingforecast Hosted on Acast.
