Today's reading from Psalm 60–62 and Romans 5 reminds us that defeat has a way of shaping how we see our circumstances, ourselves, and even God. Yet throughout Scripture, the Lord continually calls His people to anchor their confidence in His unchanging character rather than in changing circumstances.

In Psalm 60, David writes after Israel experienced a painful military setback while fighting battles on multiple fronts. Although the nation felt abandoned, God reminded His people that His covenant, His authority, and His rule over every nation had never changed. Their circumstances were shaken, but their God was not.

As we read these passages together, we're invited to remember that disappointment does not define God's faithfulness. Even in seasons where life feels uncertain, He remains our ʿezer, our help, and the One who is able to strengthen His people when their own strength is gone.
