After Death: Understanding The Forensic Timeline
transcript
show notes
The forensic timeline after death is more complicated than an hour-by-hour chart. This careful, non-graphic explainer follows the major biological processes while distinguishing a broad sequence from a reliable estimate in an individual case.
We examine body cooling, blood settling, muscle stiffness, microbial decomposition, preservation, insect development and laboratory chemistry. Research examples show why temperature, context and the limits of a study matter. The age of insects is not automatically the time since death, and a precise measurement does not always produce a precise inference.
The focus is on reading forensic claims responsibly: what was measured, what assumptions were used, and how does the finding relate to independent evidence? Follow Taylor Tailored for evidence-led science and true-crime explanations, and read the companion source list on TaylorTailored.co.uk.
