Talking Over You

Hannah and Sarah Sturm

Hannah and Sarah Sturm grew up in the same household, live in neighboring towns, and hang out all the time. But in one respect, they couldn’t be more different: Sarah is a professional cyclist while Hannah has spent most of her life successfully avoiding bikes at all costs. They both know that Sarah has a weird job, and Hannah isn’t afraid to ask the sorts of questions that most people in the bike world would be too embarrassed to ask. Why is there a Queen Stage but not a King Stage? How old is gravel racing? Does everyone pee in their chamois? And most importantly, why on earth would anyone choose this as a job? Join the Sturm sisters every week to hear them laugh about their vastly different careers, argue about their shared memories, and drop unfiltered takes on just about everything.

Swan ears, aero boobs, and Sarah’s sense of smell

The only good thing about Sarah’s 40+-week pregnancy is that she’s been able to watch the Tour de France Femmes, and she even managed to get Hannah to watch some of it with her. In this episode, they debate whether big boobs are more aero, celebrate creative displays of femininity in the Tour, and read aloud some of the unhinged comments they got about their Remco discussion a couple of weeks ago. Plus, breast pumping, pillows, and the moment everyone’s been waiting for: Sarah’s thoughts on Below Deck. This episode is sponsored by Sealionne Wines. Laini Bones on taking men's Strava crowns

If you’ve been on social media lately, chances are you’ve seen Laini Bones trash-talking and throwing heavy objects. For the past few months, her social media following has ballooned from a handful of family and friends to over 200k. Her specialty is taking the Strava KOMs of top male cyclists, including World Tour pros Quinn Simmons, Sepp Kuss, and Sean Quinn. Most importantly, she does a lot of trash talking in the process. Laini stopped by Durango to topple a few more KOMs and had time to record this interview with Sarah and Hannah. She talks about leaving her finance career to pursue boning full time, the story behind her stage name, and the Reddit threads in which men try to discredit her power numbers. Plus, raccoon voyeurs, Dance Moms, and humping the Buffalo Bill museum sign. Follow Laini on Instagram at @lainibones and on TikTok at @lainibones The account Hannah mentioned about fixing millennial brains is @Refashionedhippie Instagram: @talking.over.you

Lightning crotch, the end of the Tour, and tongues

Sarah went to the doctor to discover that she is 0% dilated, so she’s been trying every method (scientific and anecdotal) to get the baby out. She was still able to watch the Tour, though, and she gives Hannah a detailed audiobook version of Sepp’s dramatic Queen’s Stage breakaway and the moment at the finish that further confirmed she doesn’t like one particular rider. Plus, they talk about tongue measurements, buck moons, and Summer House. Use code TALKINGOVERYOU20 for 20% off Sealionne Wines. Instagram: @talking.over.you

Jimothy, the Tour de France, and Sarah’s RPE

Sarah is still pregnant and getting less enthused about it with each passing day. This week on the show, she explains why baby brands need to rethink their marketing and why she might just name her newborn after a raccoon. Plus, she and Hannah unpack Sunday’s dramatic Tour de France stage with the help of some reality TV-based analogies, and Sarah shares a humbling experience she had on a recent ride. This week on the show, Hannah shares about her new love of seals after a trip to the California coast, Sarah tries to explain the hierarchy of professional cycling, and they both get to grips with birthing positions. They also discuss Kate Courtney’s big announcement that she’s signed a contract with WorldTour team FDJ, and Sarah talks about her camping trip to watch the Hardrock 100 where she cheered on Courtney Dauwalter, a Mennonite bachelor, and two elderly tourists whose car was hanging off a cliff. Michelle Parker on freeskiing, pregnancy, and living alongside grief

Michelle Parker is a multi-hyphenate winter sports athlete and filmmaker who has been skiing since she was one year old. This past year, her life has gone through many changes. Her dad passed away after a long illness, she and her partner got pregnant, and she moved houses. Now in her third trimester, she’s had a lot of time to process both the death of her father and the prospect of bringing new life into the world. Michelle joined Sarah and Hannah to talk about all of this, including what it’s like to be an adrenaline junky and pregnant, learning to accept death from an early age within the community of winter sports athletes, and how she envisions her career changing after becoming a mother. Western States, Hannah’s shin, and Sarah’s glottis

This week, Sarah and Hannah talk about the historic Western States ultrarace in which multiple course records were made, and why all the World Cup soccer players are wearing sports bras. Sarah talks about her last birthing class, a turbo-charged e-bike ride, and swamping, again, and Hannah reminisces about her unhinged 16th birthday party. Plus: unicycles, ‘Yesteryear,’ hospital pre-rides, active labor crafts, and puffy glue. Instagram: @talking.over.you

Balloons, the Giro, and boa constrictors

Sarah and Hannah spent a lot of time together this week, and they’re still cooling off from a hike-related argument. They catch up on some loose ends from last week (the PCT OnlyFans hiker, a high-profile lawsuit in the outdoor industry, and the deeply uncool nature of running), and do a deep dive on all the drama at the Giro de Italia. Then, they get up to speed with Lael Wilcox’s 'round the world challenge, contemplate the amount of saliva in ‘Love Island,’ and reveal the crowd-sourced answer to Hannah’s question about the mud at Unbound last week. Unbound, lab coats, and ChatCBD

This week is (almost) all about Unbound, which took place over the weekend. Sarah was commentating for the live broadcast and got to see firsthand just how wrecked the equipment and riders were by the mud and storms. Hannah was watching the live feed and witnessed another type of carnage in the comments section. They talk about how the race went down, where Sarah and a dead raccoon fit into it, and get uncharacteristically technical about the presence of 32” wheels and the dominance of the new Specialized Crux. But before all that, Hannah shares some exciting news about a DNA test she got (for her dog), provides an update on the influencer hiking the PCT, and the MRI she got in Albuquerque. The Iron Horse, truffle pigs, and crickets

This week, Sarah talks about riding the Iron Horse Classic in Durango last week and contending with an unexpected amount of backlash about it. She and Dylan also went to a breastfeeding class where she learned some pretty mind-blowing facts about areolas and truffle hunting. Meanwhile, Hannah has been contending with a bug invasion at her house and crying over mascot reveals. This episode is sponsored by Thank Gravel It’s Friday and the Ride for Hope. The Cocodona, swamping, and ageing in cycling

This week on the show, Sarah brings an unprecedented level of organisation to discuss the Cocodona 250 (an ultra running event in which a woman won both the men’s and women’s fields), the drama at the Traka 560, and a new non-cycling trend known as swamping. Hannah is busy thinking about how to make Sarah’s baby shower as uncomfortable for the older attendees as possible and has some thoughts on traditional baby shower activities. Plus, they discuss the challenges of ageing as a professional cyclist and share some book recommendations. You can find audiobooks through Hannah’s shop, Hand in Hand, here. The Traka, driving in Europe, and jelly beans

Sarah is back from Spain and has stories to tell. She narrowly avoided a virus outbreak at Rapha team camp, continued her commentating career, raced the Traka 100, and nearly got arrested (again) over a situation with a rental car (again). Plus, they continue the discussion about thinness and body image, talk about Hannah’s bargain MRI, and take a walk down memory lane to a traumatic jelly bean incident from childhood. Rapha team camp, adult braces, and weight loss in cycling (with Danni Shrosbree)

They also discuss the ongoing attention surrounding weight management in cycling, especially in the women’s peloton, and how it’s affected their own lives. Sea Otter, soup, and sea lions

Sarah embarked on her temporary career as a race commentator this weekend at Sea Otter, and she had a packed schedule. Not only did she do live in-field reporting during the pro race, but she also narrowly avoided getting arrested while trying to enter the venue. Somehow, she almost had to sing the national anthem at the start line, too. Meanwhile, Hannah was taking copious notes about the YouTube live chat during the event. FansOnly, Paris-Roubaix, and Coachella

There are a lot of bike things to talk about this week, which means that Hannah is forced to do a lot of listening. Seriously, though, Paris-Roubaix was so exciting and emotional in both the men’s and women’s races that Sarah has a lot to say, including which rider might be cuter than Dylan and the absolute travesty of not providing live coverage of the full women’s race. Then, they pivot to Sarah’s upcoming commentary at Sea Otter, which Hannah is extremely nervous about. Plus, they discuss the new season of 'Euphoria,' their mom’s challenges with the Notes app, and the shorts people are wearing at Coachella. Instagram: @talking.over.you

Passover, bike messengers, and flopsy (ft. Margie Weinstein)

Sarah and Hannah are back together this week to celebrate a belated Passover. They reminisce about the Easter egg hunts they never had as children and try to remember the name of Sarah’s least favourite party game. Hannah got to talk to a former bike messenger while getting a tattoo in Denver last week, and the experience might converted her into a cycling enthusiast. They are also joined by their Mom, Margie. Back by popular demand, she talks about her impending grandmother-hood and her advice to Sarah as a soon-to-be-parent. Plus, Hannah reveals her true Enneagram (spoiler alert: Sarah was wrong). Galileo, The Hills have wheels, and leather chamois

Hannah’s been having the time of her life in Denver this week while Sarah shopped for pants at Costco in Albuquerque. They have a lot to catch up on, but first, they get sidetracked by which Enneagram personality they are. Later, they talk about the possible drama in the women’s race at The Hills, and Sarah reveals a breakthrough she had while hanging onto the wheels of her friends’ training ride last week. Plus, Hannah has another nail and hair update, and they talk about the new pregnancy contract for Life Time Grand Prix riders. Instagram: @talking.over.you
