Take It Personal Flashback (The Remix Show)

Remember the remix? Remember buying that cassette single because you needed that B-side featuring the new remix? Remember the remix that breathed new life into a track you had just started growing tired of? Remember hearing the debut of a new rapper on a remix? Remember splurging and buying that maxi-single because it had not just one remix, but two? And don't get me started on those unreleased B-side gems. That's a whole nother episode. The remix is a lost art today, but in the '90s, it meant something. Some remixes had different vocals. Some had completely different beats. Some were just flat-out better than the originals. And some remixes started, and even saved, careers for rappers and producers. Remember the first time you heard "On the Run"? What about that incredible "Stress" remix? Remember hearing Mos Def on the "Stakes Is High" remix? Episode 65 is the first installment of our Remix Series. Thanks to guys like Pete Rock, Marley Marl, DJ Premier, DJ Muggs, Salaam Remi, Large Pro, Da Beatminerz, Diamond D and Buckwild, to name a few, the remix became a staple of '90s hip-hop. We've got 68+ remixes on Episode 65 and we're just getting warmed up! At the break, the gang discusses the beauty of the remix. We pick our favorites from each set (3) and take you down music memory lane with stories mixed in with some unexpected hilarity. This is easily one of our best episodes, ever! Take It Personal (Ep 186: Beef)

On Episode 186 of Take It Personal Radio, we're diving headfirst into one of hip-hop's most compelling traditions: the beef record. We've assembled some of the greatest diss tracks and rivalries in rap history and woven them into one cinematic audio documentary. From Boogie Down Productions vs. MC Shan and LL Cool J vs. Kool Moe Dee, Hammer, Ice-T and Canibus to N.W.A vs. Ice Cube, Eazy-E vs. Dr. Dre, Nas vs. Jay-Z, and 2Pac vs. everybody, we explore the battles that shaped the culture. We also revisit clashes including Ice Cube vs. Cypress Hill, Ice Cube vs. Common, DJ Quik vs. MC Eiht, Uncle Luke vs. Dr. Dre, and more. There’s far too much history to cover in a single episode, but we do what TIP does best: deliver a carefully curated, immersive listening experience packed with legendary records, unforgettable moments, and the stories behind hip-hop’s most infamous feuds. Press play and experience the beefs that helped define rap music. At the break, we dissect these rap beefs. The good ones, the bad ones, even the embarrassing ones. Take It Personal Flashback (Miami Bass Tribute Mix)

On this flashback episode, we’re bringing you our Miami Bass Tribute Mix. The Miami Bass movement was a dominant force throughout the ‘80s and ‘90s, powered by legendary artists like 2 Live Crew, MC Shy D, Planet Patrol, Gucci Crew, Anquette, Poison Clan, and Clay D. DJs were just as instrumental in shaping the sound—names like Mr. Mixx, DJ Magic Mike, DJ Laz, Uncle Al, Jam Pony Express, Felix Sama, Power Supply, and Jealous J (Jim Jonsin) helped drive the culture forward. While many immediately think of Uncle Luke when Miami Bass is mentioned, the scene ran much deeper—truly “thick,” as 360 would say. Long before the rise of artists like Pitbull, Flo Rida, Kodak Black, Rick Ross, Ace Hood, DJ Khaled, Stitches, Lil Pump, and XXXTENTACION, this was the sound defining Miami. This 1 hour and 23 minute mix serves as a curated timeline of Miami Bass, capturing its evolution over the years. As the sound progressed, it may have leaned away from its heavy bass roots, but every track included here represents a meaningful moment in Miami’s musical history. We know our core audience leans East Coast—and we all know where hip-hop began—but if you’re a fan of Take It Personal, you already know we pride ourselves on covering all regions. It’s important to listen, understand, and appreciate what other areas—especially the South—have contributed to the culture. You may not love every track, but each one was selected with purpose. This is our Miami Bass Tribute. We hope you enjoy the ride. Take It Personal (Ep 181: M-E-T-H-O-D to Our Madness)

On Episode 181 of Take It Personal Radio, we’re doing something a little different. After 10 years and more than 180 shows, you’ve got to get a little creative. So we put together two remarkable mixes with one common theme: Method Man. These aren’t all songs that feature Method Man (although there are a few of those in here). Instead, these are joints that sample Method Man. And since there are so many great ones out there, we thought it would be a really cool idea to gather them all up and dedicate an entire episode to them. We’ve got music from Shyheim, Ras Kass, E.C. Illa, Frankie Cutlass, Keith Murray, The Beatnuts, Artifacts, Lords of the Underground, Gang Starr, Apathy, Homeliss Derilek, 13, Kane & Abel, MF Grimm, Marley Marl, The Whoridas, Naughty By Nature and so much more. Take It Personal Flashback (A Tribute to Mafioso Rap)

Flashback to episode 83, our Tribute to "Mafioso" Rap. We thought it would be fun to incorporate some of our favorite Sopranos scenes throughout this show to properly pay respects to the lost and limited art of "true" mafioso rap. There is only one Godfather and that is Kool G. Rap, so, naturally Episode 83 is laced with plenty of his best mafia influenced tracks, but we also show love to mid-90s where lyricists like AZ, Jay-Z, Nas, Big Pun, Fat Joe, The Lox, Biggie and Raekwon did the sub-genre the best. Plus, the crew joins Johnny Calzone in a wiseguy version of name that tune. Crack open a bottle of red, razor slice your garlic, grab some gabagool and remember, leave the guns, take the cannoli's. You’re listening to Take It Personal Radio — where hip-hop lives, legends are honored, and the music always speaks louder than words. 📸 Instagram: @takeitpersonalradio 🛒Store: takeitpersonalradio-shop.fourthwall.com 💖 Patreon: patreon.com/TakeItPersonal 🎧 Listen on: Apple Podcasts / iTunes Amazon Music Spotify Pandora iHeartRadio Player FM Podchaser Vevo YouTube Channel

Take It Personal (Ep 179: Random Rap)

On Episode 179 of Take It Personal Radio, we're hitting you with some random rap — or as Kevlar calls it, good nuggets. This episode features music we've never played before in the show’s 10-year existence. You’ll hear joints from Young Zee, O.C., Ten Thieves, Dr. Oop, Brainsick Mob, Main One, Marley Marl, Big Tabb, Grand Agent, Prince Po, Terra Tounge, Lord Finesse, Junclassic, Da Youngstas, Pep Love, Jay Biz, and Saukrates. At the break, we answer all your submitted questions and break down what makes up a perfect banger. Is it the beat? Is it the rhymes? Or is it the hook? Shouts to our latest sponsor, Late Night Record Pool. Enter promo code TIP10 to get your first month for just $10. DJs, head over to latenightrecordpool.com, where you’ll spend hours downloading music like the good ol’ days of Napster and Limewire — but legal. We’re also giving away some vinyl from the good folks at Get On Down on the next episode. To enter, respond in the comment section with your favorite banger from this episode, and you’ll be entered to win. Stay tuned — because if you want to know what separates us from the rest, it’s the episode you’re about to hear. Take It Personal (Ep 178: The New Music Episode)

First show of 2026. We’re rewinding to 2025 with new(er) joints from the last six months that stayed in heavy rotation. If you were in a coma in 2025 and want to know what you missed, this one’s for you! Longer talk breaks on this episode as we get into the year’s standouts, the nonstop grind of Skyzoo, DJ Premier, The Alchemist, and Conductor Williams, Method Man’s resurgence, and finally locking in that long-promised D.I.T.C. tribute. If you don’t want to hear us yap, as always, the music-only version lives on Patreon with all our other episodes. We’ve got some really cool stuff on deck, plus lots of giveaways coming up—especially a dope one from Get On Down. 📸 Instagram: @takeitpersonalradio 🛒Store: takeitpersonalradio-shop.fourthwall.com 💖 Patreon: patreon.com/TakeItPersonal 🎧 Listen on: Apple Podcasts / iTunes Amazon Music Spotify Pandora iHeartRadio Player FM Podchaser Vevo YouTube Channel
