55: Perimenopause: The Neuroendocrine Shift Behind Brain Fog, Sleep, and Weight Changes with Dr. Mariza Snyder

What if the symptoms you’ve been told are “just aging” are actually signs of a major hormonal transition? Perimenopause can affect sleep, mood, metabolism, brain function, and resilience long before anyone explains what is happening. In this episode, Dr. Amy Myers sits down with Dr. Mariza Snyder, a functional practitioner, women’s hormone expert, author, and host of Energized with Dr. Mariza. They discuss why perimenopause can feel like a second puberty, how hormone shifts affect the brain and metabolism, and practical tools for tracking symptoms, supporting blood sugar, building muscle, and advocating for better care. What you’ll learn in this episode: Why perimenopause includes brain fog, sleep changes, mood shifts, cycle changes, joint pain, body-composition changes, low libido, and reduced recovery—not only hot flashes. How symptoms, thyroid function, blood sugar, inflammation, cortisol, and age fit into the clinical picture. Why perimenopause is a neuroendocrine transition and how it can affect mental energy, word recall, mood, and resilience. How tracking symptoms, sleep, HRV, resting heart rate, and blood-sugar patterns can help you advocate for yourself. Why movement after meals, exercise snacks, and strength training support metabolic and musculoskeletal health. How HRT fits into a broader toolbox of individualized care. 53. Your Labs Are "Normal" But You're Not – The Thyropause Truth with Dr. Amie Hornaman

What if everything you've been told about your "normal" thyroid labs is wrong? After years of struggling with unexplained weight gain and fatigue, I wish I had known then what I know now. My guest today, Dr. Amie Hornaman, experienced this firsthand. A former competitive bodybuilder, she suddenly found herself gaining weight and spiraling into a deep depression. Despite strict dieting and exercise, six different doctors told her she was "normal." It wasn't until she found a practitioner who looked beyond standard testing that she discovered the truth: she had Hashimoto's and was suffering from what she now calls "thyropause." In this episode, I sit down with Dr. Amie, a functional medicine practitioner and founder of the Institute for Thyroid and Hormone Optimization. We dive deep into what thyropause actually is, why standard thyroid testing is failing women, and what every woman in midlife needs to know about the connection between sex hormones and thyroid health. The medical establishment is finally catching up to what Dr. Amie and I have been saying for years. We cover everything from the science behind T2, the forgotten thyroid hormone, to why women are routinely dismissed by their doctors. You will learn what you can do right now to actually optimize your hormones, not just accept the symptoms of aging. 🔥 What you'll learn in this episode: 📍What thyropause is and how the hormonal fluctuations of midlife trigger thyroid dysfunction 📍Why standard TSH testing is inadequate and what labs you actually need to request 📍How T2 works at the cellular level to boost metabolism without shutting down your own thyroid production 📍The truth about hormone replacement therapy and why hormones are protective, not cancer-causing 📍 Why extreme dieting and stress are massive triggers for autoimmune conditions 📍How to advocate for yourself when your doctor tells you your symptoms are "just aging" 📍Three simple, free ways to start taking back your health today About Dr. Amie Hornaman: Dr. Amie Hornaman is a functional medicine practitioner, clinical nutritionist, and the founder of the Institute for Thyroid and Hormone Optimization. She coined the term "thyropause" and is the host of The Thyroid Fixer podcast. After her own battle with severe hypothyroidism and a cancer diagnosis, she dedicated her career to helping women reclaim their health through comprehensive hormone optimization and the use of T2 therapy. 52. Plasma Exchange: Remove Forever Chemicals, Beat Chronic Fatigue & Crush Inflammation with Dr. Paul Savage, MD

What if everything you've been told about detoxifying your body is backward? After years of trying every functional medicine protocol, I wish I had known then what I know now about therapeutic plasma exchange. My journey with plasma exchange started a few months ago when I was looking for ways to address my own toxic burden. I was immediately presented with several options, including various binders, saunas, and IV therapies. Then, I discovered the profound impact of actually removing the plasma that carries these toxins. In the last year, I have opted to explore plasma exchange, and the results have been incredible. In this episode, I sit down with Dr. Paul Savage, former ER doctor, now functional medicine physician and founder of MDLifespan. We dive deep into what therapeutic plasma exchange actually is, why standard detox methods often fail for severe toxic burdens, and what everyone needs to know about chronic inflammation right now. The medical establishment is finally catching up to what Dr. Savage has been practicing for years. We cover everything from the science behind plasma exchange and how it compares to standard treatments, to why environmental toxins are the root cause of so many chronic illnesses. You will learn what you can do right now to actually reduce your toxic load, not just manage the symptoms. What you'll learn in this episode: Why standard detoxification methods often fail to remove forever chemicals and plastics What therapeutic plasma exchange is and how it mechanically dilutes the body's toxic burden Why pacing the treatments a month apart is crucial to avoid severe Herxheimer reactions How the increase in environmental toxins is driving chronic fatigue, autoimmune issues, and cognitive decline Why the source of the albumin used in the exchange is a critical safety factor The truth about chronic infections like Lyme and how reducing toxins helps the body fight them How to effectively minimize your exposure to toxins in your daily environment About Dr. Paul Savage: Dr. Paul Savage is a functional medicine physician, author, and founder of MD Lifespan. He spent 10 years as an emergency room physician before his own health crisis led him to integrative medicine. He now helps patients with severe chronic illnesses truly heal by addressing their toxic burden through specialized plasma exchange protocols. 51. Beyond Weight Loss: GLP-1s, Inflammation, and Thyroid Health With McCall McPherson, PA-C

What if the GLP-1 conversation is bigger than weight loss? In this episode, I sit down with McCall McPherson, PA-C, thyroid expert and founder of Modern Thyroid Clinic. We have a candid, nuanced discussion about GLP-1 receptor agonists, the clinical questions that extend beyond the scale, and why safety, nutrition, medication sourcing, and individualized follow-up must stay at the center of the conversation. McCall shares the clinical observations that led her team to explore low-dose approaches with some thyroid patients, including questions around inflammation and autoimmune symptoms. We also discuss what is established, what remains under study, and why an episode conversation should never replace a personal discussion with a licensed clinician. Important clinical note: The episode includes discussion of microdosing and possible anti-inflammatory applications. These ideas may be outside FDA-approved uses and are not a plan for self-treatment. Do not start, stop, split, or change a prescription medicine without guidance from a qualified prescriber. 🔥What you will learn in this episode: 📍 What GLP-1 receptor agonists are designed to do and why product-specific labels matter 📍How McCall defines microdosing in her clinical practice and why this approach requires clinician oversight 📍Why inflammation, thyroid symptoms, nutrition, muscle health, and side effects need to be considered together 📍How to approach the thyroid cancer boxed warning with a thoughtful risk-benefit conversation 📍What the FDA-approved cardiovascular indication for Wegovy does and does not tell us about other health claims 📍Why the episode treats cancer, autoimmune disease, and brain-health topics as active areas of discussion and research rather than promises of treatment 📍Why unverified online sources and do-it-yourself dosing can create avoidable safety risks The FDA has approved Wegovy, a semaglutide product, for chronic weight management in certain patients and for reducing the risk of cardiovascular death, heart attack, and stroke in adults with established cardiovascular disease and overweight or obesity, when used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. The FDA also warns that unapproved versions of GLP-1 medicines do not undergo its premarket review for safety, effectiveness, and quality. Discuss your options with a licensed clinician and use a state-licensed pharmacy. About McCall McPherson: McCall McPherson, PA-C, is a thyroid expert, functional medicine practitioner, and founder of Modern Thyroid Clinic. As a former thyroid patient herself, she brings both clinical expertise and personal experience to thyroid, hormone, and metabolic-health conversations. This week, we break down the buzzword of epigenetics into something you can actually use. You’ll hear how daily inputs such as food, toxins, movement, relationships, and even the state of your nervous system can flip genetic “switches” that either work for you or against you. Founder of MindBodyGenes, Becca Roses, joins me to show how a guided genetic blueprint can replace guesswork with clarity. From stress resilience and detox capacity to carbs, fats, and protein needs, Becca reveals the surprising patterns that matter most without creating more overwhelm. If you’ve ever been told your genes are your destiny, this conversation will help you take back your health with precision and confidence. 🔥 What you'll learn in this episode: 📍 The simplest way to think about epigenetics and why your daily inputs can shift genetic “switches” 📍 Why hyper-focusing on one SNP can backfire, and the pattern-based approach Becca uses instead 📍 How the COMT “warrior/worrier/mediator” spectrum can shape your stress, mood, and even your relationship with caffeine 📍 The hidden detox “bottleneck” that happens when Phase 1 outpaces Phase 2 (and what most reports miss about Phase 3) 📍 How genetics can clarify your ideal carb, fat, and protein mix (and why many women feel worse on ultra–low-carb) 📍 The glutamate/GABA seesaw, what GAD1 variants may reveal about focus, anxiety, and “wired” kids, and how to support balance 📍 Why a cheek-swab blueprint can help families personalize nutrition and routines for each child 📍 When to use existing raw data from 23andMe or Ancestry versus when to get a coach, plus what a 90-minute guided blueprint session looks like About Becca Roses: Becca Roses is the Founder of MindBodyGenes and a Certified Epigenetics Human Performance Coach. 48. Could Your Airway Be the Root Cause of Your Child's ADHD, Your Exhaustion, and Your Sleep Apnea? with Dr. Hilary Fritsch, DMD

In this episode, I sit down with Dr. Hilary Fritsch, DMD, an airway and biological dentist specializing in jaw development and non-surgical treatment of sleep and breathing disorders. We cover three audiences I care deeply about: parents of children showing signs of airway dysfunction, women in perimenopause who are exhausted and being missed by standard sleep testing, and adults who have been managing symptoms with a CPAP and want to know if there is a better path. Dr. Fritsch explains how mouth breathing, tongue ties, and underdeveloped palates are silently driving ADHD, anxiety, autoimmune disease, and chronic fatigue. She also shares the recent Harvard research on CPAP risks for low-risk patients that genuinely surprised me and why myofunctional therapy alone can cut apnea in half. I share my own journey and my daughter Elle's experience with palate expansion. This episode is packed with actionable information you will not want to miss. What You Will Learn: Why underdeveloped jaws and mouth breathing are a root cause of ADHD, anxiety, and chronic fatigue in children and adults The specific signs of early airway dysfunction in infants and children — and why acting early changes everything Why women are systematically underdiagnosed with sleep apnea and how perimenopause dramatically increases airway collapse risk How non-surgical palate expansion works for adults — no jaw surgery required Why myofunctional therapy is essential for lasting results and can reduce apnea severity by up to 50% What recent Harvard research reveals about CPAP risks for low-risk patients and what to do instead About Dr. Hilary Fritsch Dr. Hilary Fritsch, DMD, is an airway and biological dentist with nearly two decades of clinical experience specializing in jaw development, tongue-tied infants, and the non-surgical treatment of sleep and breathing disorders. 47. Are Mammograms Really Saving More Lives? With Dr. Jenn Simmons

What if everything you have been told about mammograms is wrong? In this episode, I sit down again with Dr. Jenn Simmons, founder of PerfeQTion™ Imaging, to break down what QT imaging actually is, why mammograms have no proven survival benefit, and what every woman needs to know about breast cancer screening right now. After a decade of mammograms and two breast cancer scares, I switched to QT scanning two years ago, and I am never going back. 45. Love, Loss, and Faith: How Grief, a Cancer Scare, and a Spiritual Journey Transformed My Life

Season 2 is here and I am starting it with the episode I have needed to record for a long time. The last few years have been the hardest of my life. My sister died of triple negative breast cancer at 31, I faced my own cancer scares, I went through toxic mold exposure and PTSD, and somewhere in the middle of all of it, I found my way back to faith. In this solo episode, I walk you through all of it honestly: the mammogram callback that started a two-year testing spiral, why I stopped circulating tumor cell screening, what EMDR did for my nervous system that nothing else could, and how Dr. Joe Dispenza meditations and clarigenic medicine gave me back a relationship with something greater than myself. I also talk about my daughter Elle and the bullying that quietly dismantled her confidence, and the school change that gave her back to me in less than a week. And I share what is coming: a revised The Autoimmune Solution™ with new sections on trauma, COVID, and long COVID; a new website; and the Dr. Myers Inner Circle. I have missed you. I am back. 44. From Carbon 60 to Anti-M: Exploring the Science of Cancer Support with Ian Mitchell

For many, navigating a cancer diagnosis can feel overwhelming. While mainstream treatments like chemotherapy remain foundational, emerging scientific research offers exciting new ways to support overall health and wellness during treatment. This week, I'm joined by Ian Mitchell, a research scientist and pharmaceutical consultant. We explore groundbreaking insights into Carbon 60 (C60), a compound with unique properties, and how it may complement lifestyle strategies like ketosis for those looking to support their health during cancer treatment. Special offer: Get 25% off on Wizard Sciences Oils when you use this link: https://wizardsciences.com/?rfsn=9066297.c97a33&utm_source=refersion&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_campaign=9066297.c97a33 In this episode, you'll discover: What Is Carbon 60 (C60): C60 is a carbon-based molecule known for its antioxidant properties. When paired with lipids, it may interact with cellular membranes in mitochondria to reduce oxidative stress and promote energy production at the cellular level. "All of your inflammatory markers go down simultaneously while your energy levels are going up," says Mitchell. "And so you feel very robust." The Importance of Ketosis: A ketogenic diet, which emphasizes low-carbohydrate, high-fat nutrition, has been studied for its potential to support metabolic health. Mitchell shares how this dietary approach may create an environment that challenges cancer cell growth while supporting healthy DNA integrity. How C60 Fits into a Comprehensive Wellness Plan: C60’s unique properties allow it to promote healthy cell function while reducing oxidative stress. Mitchell explains how incorporating C60 into a broader health regimen, alongside a supportive diet, may help optimize cellular health and resilience. Chemotherapy Can Be Effective—to an Extent: While chemotherapy plays a crucial role in many treatment plans, Mitchell and I discuss why personalized approaches to wellness and treatment may provide better outcomes. "You have this type of cancer, but nobody is checking to see if in your very specific case, does this chemotherapy work or not?" shares Dr. Myers. 43. Unlocking Peak Health: The Healing Power of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy with Dr. Scott Sherr

Hyperbaric oxygen chambers have long been used for acute issues such as strokes and brain injuries—but can they be used for chronic conditions as well? This week, I'm joined by Dr. Scott Sherr, an internal medicine physician certified in hyperbaric oxygen therapy. We sat down to discuss what makes this chamber "a wound healer from the inside out" as well as the proper protocols one should follow before even considering oxygen therapy for chronic issues. In this episode, you'll discover: The Benefits of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT): As soon as you step into the hyperbaric chamber, your body works to reoxygenate the cells in low-oxygen tissue. In the long term, not only does the body rebuild damaged blood vessels, but you can also expect to see a decrease in inflammation and swelling, an enhancement of the immune system, and lymphatic and detoxification optimization. Having a Healthy Foundation Is Key: "You want to get some of that foundational stuff working before you start stressing the system with oxygen," says Dr. Sherr. This includes having the right vitamins, minerals, and nutrients required to detoxify and create energy or ATP effectively. "The challenge in the hyperbaric world is that we don't think about these things as much," he adds. HBOT's Role In Cancer Treatment: Dr. Sherr uses hyperbaric oxygen therapy in conjunction with other interventions, such as vitamin C IVs and a ketogenic diet, as a way to support and sensitize people for chemotherapy and radiation. What Methylene Blue Does: In terms of supplemental support, Dr. Sherr turns to methylene blue, which helps optimize the mitochondria—the parts of the cells that produce ATP—while promoting detoxification at the same time, which the internal medicine physician calls "very unusual." He opts for low doses of the supplement to avoid potentially causing oxidative stress in the body. 05:40 Integrative Approach to Hyperbaric Therapy 07:03 Understanding Hyperbaric Therapy Basics 15:41 Physiological Benefits of Hyperbaric Therapy 19:07 Hyperbaric Therapy for Various Conditions 22:58 Hyperbaric Therapy and Cancer 26:27 Types of Hyperbaric Chambers 35:06 The Importance of Foundational Health Before Hyperbaric Therapy 39:36 Personal Experiences and Protocols for Hyperbaric Therapy 42:10 Optimizing Hyperbaric Therapy with Other Modalities 52:19 Methylene Blue: Benefits and Applications Connect with Dr. Myers: Website: https://www.amymyersmd.com/ Newsletter: https://www.amymyersmd.com/ec/guide-to-leaky-gut Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/AmyMyersMD Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/amymyersmd/ Episode mentioned with Dr. Shai Efrati on HBOT: https://open.spotify.com/episode/1bwEfDrSU5RTpwOkMwYf3L?si=e96668253f504c10 Connect with Dr. Sherr: Website: https://www.hyperbaricmedicalsolutions.com/integrative-hbot/scott-sherr Health Optimization Medicine (HOMe) Practice: https://home-sf.co/ OneBase Health website: https://onebasehealth.com/ Methylene blue product: https://troscriptions.com/pages/team/dr-scott-sherr Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/drscottsherr/ Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/drsherr/

    42. From Diagnosis to Thriving: How Taylor Dukes Chose Integrative Medicine to Heal Brain Cancer

A free way to support your cancer treatment? Shifting your mindset and finding the positives in life. This week, I'm joined by Taylor Dukes, a family nurse practitioner, mother of two, and former colleague. We sat down to discuss her cancer journey—from finding out she had a brain tumor to entering remission—what she's learned in the years since her initial diagnosis, and how reframing her mindset helped her thrive. In this episode, you'll discover: Integrative Approaches to Cancer Treatment: When doctors found a brain tumor in Dukes' right frontal lobe, the mother of two didn't jump straight into surgery. Instead, she implemented a lot of integrative therapies such as coffee enemas, hyperbaric oxygen chamber therapy, wearing a red light helmet, and more. "In the five months between when I got diagnosed and when I actually had surgery, we were able to shrink the brain tumor in half," says Duke." The Power of Positive Thinking: Dukes, who currently has "no evidence of disease," believes that as long as you’re breathing, there is always hope and there are always options. "No diagnosis, no test, no statistic has the ability to figure out the number of your days," says Dukes, who credits prayer and meditation for her mindset. "Your mind is powerful and what you believe is so, so powerful." Maintaining Your Health After Cancer: Two years after her diagnosis, Dukes is now in maintenance mode and focuses on getting her immune system back on track. She keeps up with regular fasting, eats a lower-carb diet, and alternates between red light therapy, ozone therapy, and sauna. “I'm starting specific therapies to target the co-infections and Lyme markers I have,” she says. 41. Healing Through Hardship: My Experience with Toxic Mold Exposure, PTSD, and a Cancer Scare (Season Finale)

I am excited to say that I have wrapped up season 1 of my Take Back Your Health™ podcast. For the last episode of the season, I have finally recorded my first solo cast. This is not just any solo cast. This is so personal and vulnerable for me—I literally bared it all in this episode. I definitely saved the best for last this season. I share what ups and downs I have been through over the last three years and, most importantly, a big health scare. I hold back tears (for the most part) as I describe almost being diagnosed with cancer and all of the very outside-the-box treatments I tried to finally get the all clear. You will not want to miss this episode! As the season comes to a close I want to thank you all for listening and let you know how very much I appreciate all of your support. I love what I do, and if I’m being honest, so much has transpired in my personal life. I’m finding it challenging to envision a season 2. It can be tough to publish a podcast episode every week. Lately, I’ve been reflecting on the effort it takes to work on my podcast, and weighing whether to keep going. So, I want to hear from you! If my podcast has helped you in any way and you would like to hear a season 2, please let me know. I’d love to hear from you! 40. From Prevention to Treatment: Inside Dr. Connealy’s Integrative Cancer Solutions

When it comes to living a healthy, full life, you must take inventory of your daily routine—it can inform the current and future state of your health. This week, I'm joined by Dr. Leigh Erin Connealy, a leading expert in integrative medicine, who is known for addressing the root cause of disease, including cancer. We sat down to discuss cancer prevention, early detection, and how key lifestyle changes can treat and prevent disease. In this episode, you'll discover: Why Cancer Diagnoses Are More Common Today: Since 1990, there's been an 80% increase in cancer among young people especially. Dr. Connealy attributes this to a variety of factors—pollution in the air, water, and food supply, people leading more sedentary lives, and the rise of antibiotics—that weren't as prevalent decades ago. "It's toxic everywhere, and it doesn't matter where you eat, what you eat, it's present." How to Prevent Disease: In that same vein, there are steps you can take to help your body help you. It all starts with how you live your 24-hour day, says Dr. Connealy. As for what you can do to Take Back Your Health™? Address your emotional state, detoxify, go outside, exercise, boost your vitamin C intake, clock in quality sleep, eat a paleo diet, and limit daily stressors wherever possible. "Your body is miraculously made. It's constantly trying to take care of you," adds Dr. Connealy. Early Detection Signs: While Dr. Connealy says bloodwork doesn't typically reveal a cancer diagnosis, there are markers you should be cognizant of. If your C reactive protein ("a nonspecific marker for inflammation"), for example, is over 0.5, that is something to be weary of because "inflammation is the precursor to all diseases," says Dr. Connealy, who also emphasizes the importance of tracking levels of vitamin D, which influences over 3,000 genes. 39. The Terrain Approach to Cancer: Dr. Nasha Winters on Revolutionizing Integrative Oncology

When it comes to cancer care—from the specific diet you follow to the type of treatment you subject your body to—quality intervention is key. This week, I'm joined by Dr. Nasha Winters, an integrative oncologist and cancer "thriver" (she was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer at age 19), who is pioneering the future of cancer care. We sat down to discuss the root cause of the illness, the importance of doing a self-audit of your home and habits, and why there is a time and a place for conventional cancer care. In this episode, you'll discover: Cancer Goes Beyond Genetics: Cancer was originally believed to be genetic, but recent research demonstrates that it's a metabolic disease. A common denominator among cancer cells is that they all have very damaged mitochondria (known as the powerhouse of the cell), shares Dr. Winters. "We were just looking at the wrong organelle all these years when the real organelle of interest was the mitochondria and the environment in which the mitochondria is swimming in and being exposed to," she adds. Why a Self-Audit Is a Non-Negotiable: An easy first step to change your terrain is knowing what you’re putting on, in, and around your body. This can be anything from skincare products and kitchen utensils to water filtration systems and air fresheners. "The more we're exposed to at a younger age, the more our nervous systems, our immune systems, and our metabolic systems are wired differently to make us more vulnerable to disease in general and cancer in particular," says Dr. Winters. Making small lifestyle changes can lead to a big, sustainable impact. Blending Two Types of Care Is Vital: Despite her lifelong mission to educate patients and practitioners on the transformative benefits of integrative medicine, Dr. Winters isn't here to villainize conventional cancer treatments. She does, however, stress the importance of marrying the two—based on your individual needs and diagnosis. It's important to ask yourself, says Dr. Winters: "How can I make the standard of care effective with as few toxins as possible while simultaneously protecting the healthy cells and strengthening the environment, the terrain in which cancer happens?" 38. The Inflammation Epidemic: How to Heal Your Body From the Inside Out with Dr. Will Cole

Looking inward is the first step to enhancing your overall health, from putting gluten sensitivities at bay to keeping autoimmune flare-ups dormant. This week, I'm joined by Dr. Will Cole, a leading functional medicine expert and dear friend. We sat down to discuss why some people are more sensitive to inflammatory foods and environmental toxins, the role of trauma in autoimmunity, and the importance of spending time in nature. In this episode, you'll discover: Why Every Body Is Different: Have you noticed how certain people can eat inflammatory foods or live among mold with no side effects? Turns out, this resilience comes down to genes. "The more gene variants you have makes your body slower at detoxing, slower at methylating, more prone to being sensitive to an environmental toxin, a virus or a mold, chronic stress, or trauma," says Dr. Cole. What Contributes to Inflammation: The way food is grown and processed has an effect on well-being. "We're seeing food reactions that 15 years ago we weren't having," says Dr. Cole. "And I think every few years, we're seeing people with more sensitive systems. So it's not the food's fault per se. It's what we've done to the food supply and what we've done to the human microbiome." Find the Right Diet for You: "Don't focus on all the things you 'can't have,' but you can have whatever you want," says Dr. Cole, who recommends making hearty, easy-to-digest stews and soups if you're looking for soothing, gut-friendly recipes. " I want to shift someone's mindset away from this sort of dieting culture to 'I love my body enough to nourish it with things that love me back.'" The Link between Trauma and Autoimmunity: While environmental toxins and microbiome health can result in autoimmune issues, so can psychological trauma. "The higher one's ACE (Adverse Childhood Events or Experiences) score, the more likely that that's a component to things like autoimmune conditions and metabolic issues," says Dr. Cole. 02:19 Discussing Food Dyes and Health Activism 06:17 The Impact of COVID-19 Vaccines 10:48 Understanding Inflammation and Autoimmunity 11:22 Genetics, Epigenetics, and Health 18:45 Empowering Health Choices 24:13 Parenting and Healthy Eating 30:31 Personal Diet Journeys: From Vegan to Paleo 42:45 The Role of Trauma in Autoimmunity 48:21 Practical Tips for Better Health Connect with Dr. Myers: Website: https://www.amymyersmd.com/ Newsletter: https://www.amymyersmd.com/ec/guide-to-leaky-gut Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/AmyMyersMD Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/amymyersmd/ Connect with Dr. Cole: Website: https://drwillcole.com/ Podcast (The Art of Being Well): https://drwillcole.com/podcast Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/drwillcole Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/doctorwillcole/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/user/DrWillCole

    37. How Habitat Optimizing Plasma Exchange Could Change the Future of Brain Health with Dr. David Haase

While cleaning up your closet can clear your mind, cleaning up your cellular habitat can change your life. This week, I'm joined by Dr. David Haase, who specializes in integrative holistic medicine and is the founder of the Maxwell Clinic in Tennessee. We sat down to discuss neurofeedback, diagnosing head injuries, and how plasma exchange (aka "an oil change" for cells) can help optimize your brain health and enhance your well-being in the long run. In this episode, you'll discover: The Science of Brain Injuries: "When the brain gets injured, the blood vessels get damaged… You no longer have the amount of vascular supply to the neurons," says Dr. Haase, adding that around 80% of people suffer from a "meaningful head injury." Fortunately, an isolated injury doesn't necessarily mean your entire brain is hurt. "One area of the brain getting injured may not come out as a deficit, but you have decreased your brain ability to be maximally resilient and maximally efficient." This is where neurofeedback comes in. What Is Neurofeedback: "Neurofeedback is a way of retraining the brain to be more electrically efficient," says Dr. Haase. This brain training, which involves measuring the electricity coming off your scalp, shows how your brain reacts to certain stimuli. This feedback can help train the brain to adjust its learning pattern naturally, thus improving focus, mood, migraines, and seizures. "If the brain gets more efficient, everything else can start to improve," he adds. Why Habitat-Optimizing Plasma Exchange Is a Game Changer: Dr. Haase is a pioneer of Habitat-Optimizing Plasma Exchange (HOPE), an intravenous treatment that cleans and replaces your plasma to improve your cellular habitat. "This process of 'oil change' for the blood decreases the rate at which Alzheimer's proceeds by over 60%," he says of the highly individualized method. "It is the single most powerful single therapy, especially for moderate Alzheimer's disease that exists." 05:46 The Role of Brain Function in Health 15:44 Understanding Neurofeedback 24:06 Diagnosing Brain Injuries and Their Impact 28:25 The HOPE Program and Cellular Health 30:23 Understanding Toxins and Nutrient Deficiencies 30:35 Aphoresis: The Oil Change for the Body 32:12 Mechanism of Action: Optimizing the Habitat 33:55 Clinical Applications and Success Stories 36:16 Procedure Details and Safety Measures 37:33 Plasma Exchange for Various Conditions 50:39 Insurance and Cost Considerations Connect with Dr. Myers: Website: https://www.amymyersmd.com/ Newsletter: https://www.amymyersmd.com/ec/guide-to-leaky-gut Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/AmyMyersMD Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/amymyersmd/ Connect with Dr. Haase: Website: https://maxwellclinic.com/ Phone number of the Maxwell Clinic: (615) 3700091 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/maxwellclinic/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/maxwellclinic YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCQq0FWvHt95ItFuVvpfMvbA X (formerly Twitter): https://twitter.com/maxwellclinic Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/davidhaasemd/
