Clayface Review | DC Just Made Its BEST Villain Movie!

Is Clayface BETTER than Joker?! DC Studios has unleashed its latest DCU movie, Clayface, bringing one of Batman's most disturbing villains to the big screen in a superhero horror movie unlike anything we've seen from the new DC Universe! In this episode of SuperHero Homies, we're giving our full Clayface movie review, discussing the characters, performances, horror elements, special effects, action, story, DC Comics Easter eggs, and how the movie compares to the classic Clayface from Batman: The Animated Series. And we're making a pretty bold claim... Clayface might be the BEST comic book villain movie ever made! Yes, even better than Joaquin Phoenix's Joker (2019)! CLAYFACE SPOILER-FREE REVIEW The first half of this episode is completely SPOILER-FREE, so you can hear our thoughts before watching the movie! We discuss what makes Clayface such an interesting addition to the DCU, and why this Batman villain works surprisingly well as the centerpiece of his own horror movie. Our spoiler-free discussion includes: • The movie's story, plot and characters • The performances and casting • The terrifying horror elements and atmosphere • The special effects, CGI and creature design • The action scenes and body horror • The film's darker tone • The pacing and character development • How Clayface compares to other DC movies • Whether Clayface is worth watching in theaters Overall, we REALLY enjoyed Clayface! The movie delivers an engaging story, memorable performances, impressive effects and some genuinely disturbing horror. Our biggest criticism is that the pacing slows down considerably during the second act, causing the movie to lose some momentum before picking things back up. Fortunately, that's a relatively minor complaint compared to everything the movie gets right. CLAYFACE VS. JOKER: WHICH IS BETTER? Here's where things get interesting. We've seen plenty of comic book villains headline their own movies, but Clayface might be our favorite villain-centered superhero movie yet. We discuss why we enjoyed Clayface even more than Joker (2019) starring Joaquin Phoenix. What makes a great comic book villain movie? Does the character need to be sympathetic? Should the movie embrace its comic book origins or distance itself from traditional superhero storytelling? And how does Clayface balance its horror elements with the larger world of Batman and DC Comics? We explain why we think this movie succeeds where other villain-focused comic book adaptations sometimes struggle. FULL CLAYFACE SPOILERS IN THE SECOND HALF! After our spoiler-free review, we dive into the entire movie! We break down the biggest plot developments, character motivations, shocking moments, horror sequences, action scenes and ending. We also discuss: • Our favorite and least favorite moments • The movie's biggest surprises • Clayface's transformation and abilities • DC Comics references and Easter eggs • The movie's ending • What worked and what could have been improved • Clayface's future in the DCU • Whether this version could eventually face Batman CLAYFACE'S COMIC BOOK ORIGINS Clayface has a fascinating history in DC Comics, with multiple characters taking on the identity over the years. We discuss the character's comic book origins, his powers, his tragic history and the different interpretations of this iconic Batman villain. We also revisit Batman: The Animated Series, which delivered one of the most memorable versions of Clayface. How does the new DCU movie compare to the animated series interpretation? Does the movie capture what makes Clayface such a compelling villain? And which elements from the comics would we like to see explored in future appearances? WHAT'S NEXT FOR CLAYFACE IN THE DCU? With Clayface now part of the expanding DC Universe, we're excited about the possibilities for this character. Could Clayface eventually appear in another DCU movie? Will he cross paths with Batman? Could he become a recurring villain, or does his story work better as a standalone horror movie? We discuss what we'd love to see next from this terrifying member of Batman's rogues gallery. JOIN THE DISCUSSION Did YOU enjoy Clayface? Is Clayface better than Joker? What did you think of the horror, performances and special effects? How does this version compare to Batman: The Animated Series? And most importantly: Is Clayface the BEST comic book villain movie ever made? Let us know in the comments! Lanterns Finale Review | Did the Ending RUIN the Show?!

Did the Lanterns finale RUIN an otherwise great DCU series?! HBO's Lanterns Season 1 has officially ended, and we're breaking down the final four episodes, the Rushville mystery, Hal Jordan, John Stewart, the lack of Green Lantern action, and whether the season finale delivered a satisfying conclusion. In this episode of SuperHero Homies, Quinten and Caleb welcome back Homie Oz for our full spoiler-filled Lanterns Episodes 5-8 review and complete Lanterns Season 1 retrospective! We previously reviewed Episodes 1-4, and now it's time to answer the big question: Did Lanterns stick the landing? Unfortunately, the three of us don't entirely agree. FULL LANTERNS SEASON 1 SPOILERS! LANTERNS FINALE REVIEW After a fantastic first half filled with mystery, compelling characters, strong performances and intriguing DC Comics references, we had high expectations for the second half of Lanterns. But did the finale deliver? All three of us have issues with the ending, although we disagree about how much those problems affect the series overall. We discuss: • Lanterns Episodes 5-8 and the biggest plot developments • The resolution of the Rushville mystery • Hal Jordan and John Stewart's character arcs • Why the season finale felt underwhelming • The lack of exciting Green Lantern action • The limited use of Green Lantern constructs • Whether the finale played things too safe • Our favorite moments from the entire season • The incredible performances of the two leads • What comes next for John Stewart and the DCU • Whether the finale changes our overall opinion of the show WHERE IS JOHN STEWART'S GREEN LANTERN?! One of our biggest questions throughout the series has been about John Stewart's future as a Green Lantern. When will John fully embrace his role as a member of the Green Lantern Corps? How does the ending set up his future in the DC Universe? And why didn't the finale give us a bigger showcase of Green Lantern powers, constructs and superhero action? We appreciate that Lanterns approaches the source material differently, focusing on a grounded detective mystery rather than traditional cosmic superhero storytelling. But when you're making a show about GREEN LANTERNS, is it unreasonable to expect a little more Green Lantern action?! THE RUSHVILLE MYSTERY EXPLAINED The central mystery surrounding Rushville has been one of the show's most compelling elements. We break down the revelations, character motivations, major plot points and how the finale resolves the mystery. Did the writers successfully bring everything together? Was the conclusion satisfying? Or did the show spend too much time building suspense without delivering a sufficiently exciting payoff? Some of us believe the ending, while relatively safe, still provides a satisfying conclusion for certain characters and storylines. Others aren't nearly as forgiving. CAN A BAD FINALE RUIN A GREAT SHOW? This is where the debate REALLY gets interesting. If a television series is great for most of its run but delivers a disappointing finale, how much should that affect its overall quality? Does the destination matter more than the journey? Is the Lanterns finale actually bad, or did it simply fail to live up to the expectations created by the previous episodes? We have three different perspectives, plenty of disagreements and some surprisingly convincing arguments on both sides. Despite our criticisms, there's still plenty to praise about Lanterns Season 1. The casting is excellent, the two lead performances are fantastic, and the show's mystery, atmosphere and character development gave us plenty to enjoy. But was that enough? WHAT'S NEXT FOR LANTERNS AND THE DCU? We also discuss the future of John Stewart, Hal Jordan, the Green Lantern Corps and DC Studios' larger DC Universe. Where does John Stewart go from here? When will we see him fully become the Green Lantern comic book fans know and love? And what lessons should DC take from the first season of Lanterns? Ultimately, Lanterns gave us a lot to love and plenty to argue about. Whether the finale was merely underwhelming or genuinely damaging to the series is where we disagree. JOIN THE DISCUSSION What did YOU think of the Lanterns Season 1 finale? Did the ending ruin the show? Was the Rushville mystery satisfying? Did you want more Green Lantern constructs and action? And what should happen next with John Stewart? Let us know in the comments! Batman: Knightfall Part 1 Review | Bane Is Absolutely BRUTAL!

Batman: Knightfall has FINALLY received an animated adaptation! DC's legendary Batman storyline comes to life in Batman: Knightfall Part 1, and we're breaking down the new DC animated movie with a full spoiler review and comparison to the classic Knightfall comic book storyline. In this episode of SuperHero Homies, we discuss the animation, art style, brutal action, Bane, Batman's physical exhaustion, Azrael, Tim Drake, voice acting, pacing, comic book changes and how successfully Knightfall Part 1 condenses one of Batman's biggest stories into an animated movie. Overall? We really enjoyed this one! FULL BATMAN: KNIGHTFALL PART 1 SPOILERS! BATMAN: KNIGHTFALL PART 1 REVIEW Knightfall is one of the most famous Batman stories ever published, and adapting such a massive comic book saga was never going to be easy. Fortunately, Batman: Knightfall Part 1 gets a LOT right. We discuss: • The animation and art style • The brutal action and gore • Batman's deteriorating physical condition • Bane as a physical and psychological threat • Azrael and his introduction • Tim Drake/Robin and the supporting characters • Voice acting and performances • Changes from the original Knightfall comics • The movie's pacing problems • What we're expecting from Knightquest and Part 2 BANE IS A MONSTER One of our biggest highlights is Bane. We've seen plenty of interpretations of Bane across Batman movies, TV, animation, video games and DC Comics, but this might be one of his most vicious portrayals yet. He's intelligent, calculating, physically overwhelming and absolutely BRUTAL. The movie understands what makes the Knightfall version of Bane so dangerous. He doesn't simply want to beat Batman. He wants to systematically destroy him. Watching Batman struggle against exhaustion while Bane's plan unfolds gives the movie a sense of impending doom, even when you know where the story is going. AZRAEL, TIM DRAKE & THE BAT-FAMILY The supporting characters also get opportunities to shine, particularly Tim Drake and Azrael. Azrael's introduction is especially important because the movie needs to establish his character while laying the groundwork for what's coming next. Unfortunately, that's also where one of our biggest criticisms comes in. THE PACING ISN'T PERFECT There's a LOT of story for Knightfall Part 1 to juggle. The movie needs to introduce Azrael, establish Bane's motivations, demonstrate Batman's worsening exhaustion, develop the supporting characters and keep the central plot moving. Sometimes you can feel the movie wrestling with all those spinning plates. Certain developments could have used more breathing room, particularly Azrael's introduction, Bane's motivations and Batman's deteriorating physical condition. Fortunately, everything else works extremely well. KNIGHTFALL MOVIE VS. COMIC How does the animated movie compare to the original Batman: Knightfall comics? The original Knightfall saga is MASSIVE, making a direct adaptation extremely difficult. Instead of attempting to include every subplot, the movie streamlines the material into something much more digestible. We discuss what's changed, what's been condensed, what works better in the comics and what the animated adaptation gets right. Despite our pacing complaints, we think Batman: Knightfall Part 1 is a strong adaptation that understands what made the original comic book storyline special. WHAT'S NEXT? KNIGHTQUEST! Now we're ready for Batman: Knightfall Part 2 and Knightquest. We're especially interested to see how the animated adaptation handles Azrael's evolving role, the fallout from Part 1 and the next stage of the Knightfall saga. If Part 2 can build upon everything that worked here while giving the story more room to breathe, DC could have something special. JOIN THE DISCUSSION What did YOU think of Batman: Knightfall Part 1? Did it live up to the comics? What did you think of Bane? Did Azrael get enough development? What are you hoping to see in Knightquest? Let us know in the comments! X-Men '97 Is STILL Great... So Why Does Season 2 Feel Off?

X-Men '97 Season 2 has officially come to an end! After an incredible first season, did Marvel Animation manage to recapture the magic, or did Season 2 bite off more than it could chew? In this episode of SuperHero Homies, we give our full spoiler-filled review of X-Men '97 Season 2 Episodes 5-9, including the season finale, Apocalypse, Nightcrawler, the incredible action and animation, our biggest criticisms, and what we want from X-Men '97 Season 3. But first, we've got a hefty 40-minute cold open! COLD OPEN: FIRST 40 MINUTES DRAGON CON 2026 We're heading to Dragon Con starting September 3rd, and we'll be there all weekend! We're excited to experience the convention and hopefully meet some fellow SuperHero Homies along the way. If you see us wandering around Dragon Con, come say hello! SODA CITY COMIC CON We also recap our trip to Soda City Comic Con, where we had the opportunity to meet Wilson Bethel, better known as Bullseye from Daredevil and Daredevil: Born Again, and the legendary Peter Weller, star of RoboCop. We share stories from both encounters and our overall experience at the convention. ARE THE FOX X-MEN MOVIES UNDERRATED? With X-Men hotter than ever, we revisit the Fox X-Men movie franchise and ask whether these films deserve more credit. The franchise definitely had some lows, but movies like Logan and X-Men: Days of Future Past remain among the greatest comic book movies ever made. So... have we been too hard on the Fox X-Men? THE BATMAN JOINS THE DCU?! Could Matt Reeves' Batman eventually be folded into James Gunn's larger DC Universe? We discuss the possibility of Robert Pattinson's Batman sharing the screen with David Corenswet's Superman, whether that combination could actually work, and what it would mean for the future of the DCU. We also discuss our excitement for Batman: Knightfall Part 1 and the chilling new Absolute Batman Mr. Freeze origin story. LANTERNS We're loving Lanterns! Unfortunately, we haven't had enough time to review the series weekly, but we give our thoughts on what we've seen so far and why we can't wait to give the show a proper review. X-MEN '97 SEASON 2 FULL SPOILERS After the cold open, we dive into X-Men '97 Season 2 Episodes 5-9 and the finale. There's still a LOT to love about this series. The animation, voice acting, superhero action, fight scenes, comic book references, and character work remain top-notch. Certain characters and storylines are handled exceptionally well, particularly Nightcrawler, who continues to be one of our favorite characters. But Season 2 also left us frustrated. We discuss: • Apocalypse and his Season 2 storyline • The disappointing conclusion to the overarching conflict • Why certain Apocalypse storylines feel half-baked • Nightcrawler's fantastic character development • The incredible animation and voice acting • Some of the season's best fight scenes • Our favorite and least favorite moments • The disjointed storytelling • Season 2's pacing problems • How Season 2 compares to Season 1 • The X-Men '97 Season 2 ending • Our theories and predictions for Season 3 Our biggest issue is that Season 2 simply needed more room to breathe. There are great ideas throughout these episodes, but important story beats sometimes move so quickly that they don't receive the emotional weight or development they deserve. The overarching Apocalypse storyline is especially frustrating because such an iconic X-Men villain deserved a more fulfilling conclusion. That doesn't mean we've suddenly stopped loving X-Men '97. Far from it. We still think this is an excellent superhero animated series with fantastic characters, gorgeous animation, phenomenal action, and a clear love for Marvel Comics and X-Men history. Season 1 simply set an incredibly high bar, and Season 2 doesn't quite reach it. We're still VERY excited for X-Men '97 Season 3, and we're hoping Marvel Animation slows things down just enough to let its biggest moments breathe. JOIN THE DISCUSSION Did X-Men '97 Season 2 stick the landing? Was Apocalypse handled properly? Was Season 1 better? And what do YOU want to see in Season 3? Let us know in the comments! D23 Comic News | Avengers: Doomsday & X-Men Just Got HUGE!

D23 delivered some HUGE announcements for Marvel fans, and we're breaking down the biggest news, trailers, casting reveals, and theories coming out of the event! In this episode of SuperHero Homies, we dive into the new Avengers: Doomsday trailer, the latest MCU X-Men casting announcements, Doctor Doom, Incursions, Mr. Sinister, Jean Grey, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Kingdom Hearts, and the premiere of DC's Lanterns! AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY TRAILER BREAKDOWN We start with the new Avengers: Doomsday trailer and everything it potentially reveals about Marvel's next massive crossover event. We discuss: • Doctor Doom's role in Avengers: Doomsday • Could Doom experience a heel turn during the movie? • Doctor Doom's potential motivations and master plan • Why Incursions may be the REAL threat • How Incursions work in Marvel Comics • Which Avengers could die in Doomsday • The movie's biggest trailer reveals • How Doomsday could set up Avengers: Secret Wars • Our theories for the future of the MCU Doctor Doom may be positioned as the movie's major antagonist, but we're theorizing that the true threat could be much bigger than any individual villain. With the Multiverse collapsing and Incursions threatening entire realities, could Doom actually become necessary to saving the MCU? And with the stakes this high, we're asking the painful question: Which Avengers aren't making it out alive? MCU X-MEN CASTING & THEORIES Next, we dive into the new X-Men casting announcements and theorize about Marvel Studios' upcoming 2028 X-Men movie. We discuss: • The new MCU X-Men cast • Which mutants could join the team • What Marvel's version of the X-Men could look like • Mr. Sinister's potential role • Could Mr. Sinister be the main villain? • Jean Grey's future in the MCU • Mutants finally becoming a major part of Marvel Studios • How the X-Men could connect to the post-Secret Wars MCU We also discuss Jean Grey's role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day and how her story could directly influence the upcoming X-Men movie. Could Spider-Man actually help lay the groundwork for Marvel's mutant era? MR. SINISTER We get particularly nerdy discussing Mr. Sinister, his comic book history, obsession with mutant genetics, and why he could be an excellent villain for the MCU's first major X-Men story. After years of Magneto dominating X-Men adaptations, is it finally time for another classic mutant villain to take center stage? KINGDOM HEARTS RETURNS! We also briefly discuss the surprising announcement of a new Kingdom Hearts TV series and a new Kingdom Hearts game. What could a Kingdom Hearts television adaptation even look like? How heavily will Disney characters be involved? And are we prepared to once again pretend we understand the Kingdom Hearts timeline? LANTERNS EPISODE 1 Finally, we jump over to DC Studios for our thoughts on the first episode of Lanterns. And so far... We really like it! We discuss our first impressions, the show's characters, mystery, tone, and why we're excited to see where the series takes Hal Jordan, John Stewart, and the Green Lantern mythology. JOIN THE DISCUSSION What was the biggest D23 announcement? What is Doctor Doom's real plan? Which Avengers survive Doomsday? Who should join the MCU X-Men? House of the Dragon Season 3 Review | An EPIC But Flawed Season

House of the Dragon Season 3 has come to an end! After an uneven second season, did Season 3 bring the Dance of the Dragons back to its former glory? In this episode of SuperHero Homies, we give our full spoiler-filled House of the Dragon Season 3 review, breaking down the second half of the season, the epic finale, Battle of Tumbleton, Rhaenyra's transformation, Sheepstealer, Rhaena, Ormund Hightower, and our biggest theories for House of the Dragon Season 4. But first, we've got a 20-minute cold open! COLD OPEN: FIRST 20 MINUTES We begin with a debate about comic book movie adaptations and how closely movies should follow their source material. Why can Spider-Man: Brand New Day drastically differ from its comic book namesake without receiving much criticism, while Supergirl was heavily criticized for changing elements of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow? Is faithfulness to the source material actually important, or does it depend on expectations? Nobody necessarily expected Spider-Man: Brand New Day to directly adapt the comics, while Supergirl was marketed as an adaptation of Woman of Tomorrow. We discuss whether expectations, rather than comic book accuracy itself, are what ultimately shape fan reactions. ICE CREAM MAN MOVIE We then discuss Eli Roth's Ice Cream Man horror movie... and we're already worried without even seeing it. We're big fans of the Ice Cream Man comics and praise their creativity, disturbing horror, mystery, thought-provoking storytelling, and incredibly unique premise. Unfortunately, we think the movie appears to be stripping away much of what makes the comic special in favor of something far more generic. We discuss why the adaptation feels disconnected from its source material and why we're skeptical of Eli Roth's approach. HOUSE OF THE DRAGON SEASON 3 After the cold open, we return to Westeros for our full discussion of House of the Dragon Season 3 Episodes 5-8. We previously reviewed Episodes 1-4, and now it's time to determine whether Season 3 stuck the landing. FULL HOUSE OF THE DRAGON SPOILERS! We discuss: • The Battle of Tumbleton and the finale's incredible action • Rhaenyra's increasingly dark transformation • Rhaena and Sheepstealer • Ormund Hightower emerging as a wonderfully conniving villain • The Dance of the Dragons • The season's biggest twists and surprises • Character motivations and development • The uneven pacing • Underdeveloped supporting characters • Our favorite and least favorite moments • Where the story goes in Season 4 • Who survives the coming war The action throughout Season 3 is spectacular, and the Battle of Tumbleton gives us some of the epic dragon warfare we've been waiting to see. We also loved watching Rhaenyra's heel turn continue as the war changes her, while characters such as Ormund Hightower brought some much-needed personality and scheming to the conflict. But we have one MAJOR problem with the series: Who are we supposed to root for? We love morally complex characters. Game of Thrones built its reputation on complicated, flawed people. But morally gray doesn't have to mean emotionally distant. At this point, we're struggling to find a main character we genuinely want to rally behind. The spectacle is incredible, but without characters we're emotionally invested in, some of the biggest moments don't hit as hard as they should. Despite those criticisms, we still enjoyed House of the Dragon Season 3 and believe it's an improvement over Season 2. Now we're looking ahead and hoping the series can bring the Dance of the Dragons to a satisfying conclusion. JOIN THE DISCUSSION Did you enjoy House of the Dragon Season 3? House of the Dragon Season 3 Review | FINALLY Back on Track? (Episodes 1-4)

House of the Dragon is back... and after a divisive second season, Season 3 is finally bringing the fire! In this episode of SuperHero Homies, we break down the first four episodes of House of the Dragon Season 3, discussing the biggest battles, character arcs, political intrigue, dragon action, pacing, theories, and everything that has us excited for the rest of the season. While we had plenty of criticisms of Season 2, these opening episodes feel like a major step in the right direction. The story is moving, the battles are spectacular, and the Dance of the Dragons finally feels like it's building toward the epic conclusion we've been waiting for. FULL SPOILER DISCUSSION This episode contains full spoilers for House of the Dragon Season 3 Episodes 1-4. In This Episode We Discuss: Our full House of the Dragon Season 3 review Why Season 3 feels much stronger than Season 2 The incredible pacing of the opening episodes Massive battle sequences and dragon action The political maneuvering between rival factions Character motivations and shifting alliances Which characters impressed us the most Why some of the cast feels less complex than previous seasons Our favorite scenes and biggest surprises The strongest action set pieces so far What still isn't working Predictions and theories for the rest of Season 3 Who we think survives... and who probably won't One of our biggest takeaways is that House of the Dragon has recaptured much of the excitement that made us fall in love with this world. The first two episodes feature phenomenal pacing, outstanding action, and some of the biggest moments we've seen since the series began. That said, we don't think everything is perfect. While the spectacle has reached new heights, some of the characters don't feel quite as layered or emotionally compelling as they did in previous seasons. They're far from one-dimensional, but many of the personal conflicts and relationships haven't resonated with us as strongly as they once did. Even with those criticisms, we're having a fantastic time watching this season unfold. These first four episodes have us genuinely excited to see how the Dance of the Dragons reaches its conclusion, and we can't wait to see where the remaining episodes take Rhaenyra, Alicent, Daemon, Aegon, Aemond, Corlys, and the rest of Westeros. Whether you're a longtime Game of Thrones fan, a reader of Fire & Blood, or simply following HBO's biggest fantasy series, this episode is packed with in-depth analysis, theories, predictions, and spoiler-filled discussion. The Odyssey Review | Christopher Nolan Has Done It Again

Christopher Nolan returns with one of his most ambitious films yet, and we absolutely loved it. The Odyssey transforms Homer's timeless epic into a breathtaking cinematic experience, blending spectacular action, practical filmmaking, emotional storytelling, and thought-provoking themes into what we believe is one of the year's very best movies. In this episode of SuperHero Homies, we dive deep into Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey with a full spoiler-free review followed by an in-depth spoiler discussion, breaking down the performances, themes, action, cinematography, practical effects, IMAX presentation, and why this film deserves to be experienced on the biggest screen possible. SPOILER WARNING The first hour of this review is completely spoiler-free, making it safe to watch before seeing the film. The second half contains our full spoiler discussion, where we analyze the story, ending, symbolism, and our favorite moments. In Our Spoiler-Free Review, We Discuss: • Christopher Nolan's direction • The incredible cast and standout performances • Stunning practical effects • The breathtaking IMAX cinematography • The unforgettable musical score • Epic action sequences • Atmosphere and world-building • Why this movie demands to be seen in theaters • Our overall thoughts without revealing major plot details Full Spoiler Discussion Includes: • The adaptation of Homer's Odyssey • Odysseus' emotional journey • Themes of war, trauma, and guilt • How Nolan modernizes a timeless classic • Character motivations and arcs • The movie's biggest emotional moments • Favorite scenes • Minor criticisms and nitpicks • The ending explained • Why this film works so well emotionally One of the aspects we appreciated most was how Christopher Nolan doesn't simply retell The Odyssey. Instead, he uses Homer's legendary tale as a foundation for exploring the lasting psychological scars of war, survivor's guilt, leadership, and the emotional cost of returning home after unimaginable hardship. The movie is filled with breathtaking practical effects, gorgeous IMAX photography, incredible production design, memorable performances, and a haunting musical score that elevates nearly every scene. While we do have a few minor criticisms, including a handful of performances that don't quite reach the same level as the rest of the cast and action scenes that are excellent without quite becoming all-time classics, those nitpicks hardly diminish what is otherwise a phenomenal cinematic experience. Whether you're a longtime Christopher Nolan fan, someone fascinated by Greek mythology, or simply looking for one of the year's best movies, The Odyssey is absolutely worth discussing. Supergirl Review | Better or Worse Than Woman of Tomorrow?

The DC Universe continues with Supergirl, but does Kara Zor-El's first solo film soar to new heights or fall short of the incredible expectations set by Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow? In this episode of SuperHero Homies, we dive into a full review of the new Supergirl movie with a spoiler-free first half followed by a full spoiler discussion where we break down the biggest moments, performances, action sequences, characters, and how the film compares to the beloved DC Comics graphic novel that inspired it. SPOILER WARNING The first half of this episode is completely spoiler-free, making it the perfect review to watch before heading to the theater. The second half contains our full spoiler discussion of Supergirl. In our spoiler-free review, we discuss: • Milly Alcock's outstanding performance as Kara Zor-El • Jason Momoa's debut as Lobo • The movie's action sequences and visual effects • The overall story and pacing • Whether Supergirl is a strong addition to James Gunn's new DC Universe • How it compares to other recent DC movies Then we jump into full spoilers to discuss: • The biggest story moments • Kara's emotional journey • Lobo's role in the film • The supporting cast • Favorite and least favorite scenes • The ending explained • Themes and character arcs • What worked... and what didn't • The future of the DCU One thing we all agreed on is that Milly Alcock absolutely shines as Supergirl. She brings warmth, vulnerability, strength, and charisma to Kara Zor-El, making her the emotional core of the entire movie. Jason Momoa is also a blast as Lobo, even if his role is relatively small. Where our discussion gets more interesting is when we compare the movie to Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, the acclaimed comic by Tom King and Bilquis Evely that we reviewed last week. While the film improves on a few aspects of the source material, including pacing, action, and a more restrained version of Ruthye, it also loses much of the emotional depth, nuance, and heart that made the graphic novel so memorable. Ultimately, we found Supergirl to be an entertaining but uneven superhero movie. It doesn't reinvent the genre, and a one-dimensional villain along with a familiar, trope-driven plot keep it from reaching its full potential. Still, if you can separate the movie from its comic book inspiration, there's plenty of fun to be had. Whether you're a lifelong DC Comics fan, eagerly following James Gunn's DC Universe, or simply curious about the latest superhero movie, this review has you covered. Spider-Noir Review | Better Than We Ever Expected

Spider-Noir may be one of the strangest Spider-Man adaptations ever made... and somehow, it works. Going into Spider-Noir, our expectations were fairly modest. A noir detective series starring a version of Spider-Man sounded interesting on paper, but we weren't sure how successfully the show would balance classic superhero action with old-school detective storytelling. After finishing the series, we were pleasantly surprised by just how much we enjoyed it. In this episode of SuperHero Homies, we give our full spoiler-filled review of Spider-Noir, discussing the story, performances, visuals, action sequences, comic book inspirations, noir influences, and why this series stands out in today's crowded superhero landscape. COLD OPEN (First 20 Minutes) Before diving into Spider-Noir, we discuss several major topics from the worlds of Marvel, comic books, and pop culture: • Breaking down the latest Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer • Our biggest Spider-Man theories and predictions • The possibility of Sadie Sink playing Jean Grey • Spider-Man: Brand New Day's massive opening day ticket pre-sale numbers • Why excitement for the next Spider-Man movie is through the roof • Spoiler-light discussion of the leaked Avengers: Doomsday footage • A guest host's experience binging the entire Daredevil saga • Thoughts on Netflix's Daredevil and Daredevil: Born Again • Why Matt Murdock remains one of Marvel's most beloved characters FULL SPOILER REVIEW After the cold open, we jump into a deep spoiler discussion of Spider-Noir. Topics include: • Ben Reilly's portrayal and character arc • The incredible black-and-white presentation • The equally impressive color version of the series • The show's noir detective atmosphere • How Spider-Noir balances crime drama and superhero storytelling • The cast and standout performances • Classic Spider-Man characters reimagined through a noir lens • Favorite episodes and moments • The show's biggest strengths and weaknesses • Inconsistent power scaling and character abilities • Plot threads that deserved more development • What a potential second season could explore One of the biggest surprises of the series is just how committed it is to the noir genre. Rather than simply placing Spider-Man in a different visual setting, Spider-Noir fully embraces detective storytelling, mystery, suspense, crime, corruption, and classic noir aesthetics while still delivering the comic book action fans expect. While we don't think the show is perfect, we absolutely loved its visual style, strong performances, unique atmosphere, and willingness to take creative risks. In an era where superhero stories can sometimes feel repetitive, Spider-Noir manages to carve out its own identity and offer something genuinely different. The Comic Behind The Supergirl Movie | Woman of Tomorrow Review

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is widely considered one of the best Supergirl stories ever written, but does it deserve all the praise? With the upcoming Supergirl movie drawing heavy inspiration from Tom King's acclaimed DC Comics graphic novel, we decided it was finally time to sit down and read Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. After finishing the book, we found ourselves agreeing on some things, disagreeing on others, and having a fascinating discussion about one of DC's most celebrated modern comics. In this episode of SuperHero Homies, we break down Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow in a full spoiler-filled review, discussing the story, characters, themes, artwork, pacing, world-building, and whether this graphic novel deserves its reputation as a modern DC Comics classic. COLD OPEN (First 30 Minutes) Before discussing Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, we dive into several major topics from the worlds of comic books, superhero movies, and pop culture: • The new Lanterns trailer and its detective-inspired mystery elements • Our thoughts on Hal Jordan and Jon Stewart's dynamic • Why Lanterns could become one of DC Studios' most important projects • The endlessly delayed Blade movie and why Marvel Studios can't seem to get it made • What makes Blade such a seemingly straightforward superhero movie to adapt • The surprising announcement of the Jimmy Olsen & Gorilla Grodd television series • Our theories on what that bizarre DC project could become • New casting announcements for The Batman Part II • Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, and Brian Tyree Henry joining the cast • Speculation surrounding Harvey Dent, Gilda Dent, Victor Zsasz, Harvey Bullock, and other Gotham City characters FULL SPOILER REVIEW After the cold open, we jump into a deep spoiler discussion of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Topics include: • Kara Zor-El's characterization • The story's themes and emotional core • Tom King's writing style • Bilquis Evely's incredible artwork • The strengths and weaknesses of the narrative • Pacing issues and storytelling choices • Favorite and least favorite moments • The supporting cast • The book's entertainment value • How faithful the Supergirl movie should be to the comic • Why our opinions on the story differ so much While all three of us agree that the artwork is phenomenal and that Kara is written exceptionally well, our opinions diverge when it comes to the pacing, character decisions, and overall effectiveness of the story. Two hosts came away largely positive on the graphic novel, while one host found himself far less impressed by the experience. Star Wars: Maul Shadow Lord Review | Better Than We Expected!

Star Wars: Maul Shadow Lord surprised us in the best way possible. Going into this new Star Wars series, our expectations were fairly modest. While Darth Maul has always been one of the franchise's most iconic villains, we weren't convinced that another Maul-centered story would bring anything new to the table. After watching all ten episodes, we're happy to admit we were wrong. In this episode of SuperHero Homies, we give our full spoiler-filled review of Star Wars: Maul Shadow Lord, discussing the story, characters, action sequences, major reveals, connections to Star Wars lore, and what the future could hold for Darth Maul and the galaxy far, far away. COLD OPEN (First 21 Minutes) Before diving into Maul Shadow Lord, we discuss several major topics from the worlds of comic books, superhero movies, and pop culture: • Why Absolute Batman by Scott Snyder has become such a massive success • Bruce Wayne's lack of an internal monologue and how it changes the character • Why readers are embracing a more violent, immature, and physically imposing Batman • The new Supergirl movie teaser and Kara Zor-El's first meeting with Superman • Our upcoming Supergirl review and discussion of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow • Lex Luthor's comic-accurate power suit from the recent Superman set photos • First impressions of the Lanterns television series trailer • The future of the DC Universe under James Gunn FULL SPOILER REVIEW After the cold open, we jump into a deep spoiler discussion of Maul Shadow Lord. We discuss: • Darth Maul's character development • The show's fast-paced storytelling • The impressive lightsaber duels and action sequences • New Star Wars characters and villains • The shocking reveal in Episode 9 • Connections to The Phantom Menace • What happened to Maul after Naboo • Star Wars canon and lore implications • The future of Maul's criminal empire • The next chapter of Star Wars animation and television While Maul Shadow Lord isn't necessarily groundbreaking television, we found it to be one of the most enjoyable and cohesive Star Wars projects in recent memory. The series expands Darth Maul's story in meaningful ways, delivers exciting action, introduces compelling new characters, and leaves fans with plenty to speculate about moving forward. Then it's time for our full spoiler discussion of The Boys Season 5 finale. We analyze Homelander's ending, Butcher's final arc, the fate of The Seven, and whether the conclusions for the major characters felt earned. We discuss how the series may have been spinning its wheels for the last two seasons, why parts of the finale felt rushed, and whether the show's biggest themes ultimately paid off. We also look back at the entire run of The Boys, celebrating what made the first two seasons so incredible while examining the creative decisions that left us disappointed in the final stretch. Did The Boys become a victim of its own success? Did Homelander's story repeat too many familiar beats? Was this a satisfying ending for one of the most talked-about superhero shows ever made? Finally, we discuss the future of The Boys universe, including Gen V, Vought Rising, The Boys: Mexico, and where this franchise could go next. If you love superhero podcasts, comic book discussions, TV reviews, movie reviews, Marvel, DC Comics, Invincible, Gen V, comic book adaptations, nerd culture, gaming discussions, and pop culture commentary, you've found your people.
