Religious Liberty and the Sabbath
The seventh-day Sabbath, properly observed, serves as a safeguard against idolatry. Its weekly celebration, as both a memorial of creation and a promise of God's power to redeem from sin, reconnects humanity with its Creator. Its injunction to stop working reveals a deeper spiritual imperative to recognize Christ, not our own effort, as the only hope of salvation. As the author of Hebrews wrote, "There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his" (Hebrews 4:9, 10). The seventh-day Sabbath is a sign of righteousness by faith. It is a weekly promise and reminder of God's power to grant victory over sin. Religious Liberty and the Division Principle
The principle of division is a fundamental law of both physical and spiritual life, as demonstrated in the Genesis creation account where God systematically separated light, water, land, and time. In the same way, spiritual vitality requires a distinct separation from sin and worldly influences. True religious liberty is not the absence of boundaries, but the preservation of them; when the spheres of church and state are conflated, as they were in the medieval era, the result is the erosion of conscience and the rise of religious persecution. Tolerance is Not Religious Liberty
Tolerance as a religious liberty principle is a worldly concept. It signals either blind and silent acceptance of all religious beliefs, or control and coercion against those religious beliefs that are considered dangerous. In the end, neither definition of tolerance attempts to free people from the power of sin, and neither definition seeks after truth. Religious liberty is a right inherent to the individual, while religious tolerance is a privilege granted on condition by the ruling authority. Should the Church Direct the State?
For over 2,500 years, no legitimate theocracy has existed on earth, and this means that God has never authorized the Christian church to govern the state. Jesus did not try to control human politics, but told the Roman governor Pilate, “My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight…To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice” (John 18:36, 37). The Church’s mission is not to fight—literally or politically—to establish a “Christian nation.” It is to live like Jesus—to help those in need and to teach and preach Bible truth. It is here that God's servants find an anchor for their faith and assurance that their prayers will be heard and answered. It is here that the principles of God's law of freedom are written on the mind and the heart. And it is here, in the heavenly sanctuary, that religious liberty is born, matures, and gains the victory. Without a Biblical understanding of the sanctuary, religious liberty cannot be properly understood. Deny the existence of a heavenly sanctuary, and the only reality that remains is slavery to sin. The warning applies to individuals and to churches. Any church that ignores or forgets the sanctuary will eventually lose the entire gospel and devolve into spiritual tyranny. The Prophetic Voice

The Word Was Made Flesh
The promise of overcoming would not be given if it were impossible. God's Word contains the same power today that it did at creation. It still calls forth light out of darkness. In the Beginning Was the Word
The power of speech reflects God's image in humanity. Freedom of speech is the first and primal freedom because it reflects the freedom of the Creator. The dragon hates God. He hates the image of God within humanity. And he hates freedom of speech. Let every Christian, and every Christian church that claims to serve and represent the Creator, protect the freedom of speech with their lives. Our very existence depends on it.
