Episode 192: The Devil She Called Dad: The Harmony Montgomery Case
Send us Fan Mail Harmony Montgomery was just 5 years old when she was murdered by her father, Adam Montgomery, in Manchester, New Hampshire, in December 2019. Despite multiple warning signs of abuse and concerns raised by relatives, Harmony had been placed in her father's custody earlier that year. After her death, Adam concealed her body, which has never been recovered. Shockingly, Harmony wasn't reported missing until December 2021, when her mother, Crystal Sorey, realized she had not seen or spoken to her daughter in years. During Adam Montgomery's 2024 trial, prosecutors argued that he fatally beat Harmony during a drug-fueled period of homelessness and then moved and hid her body for months with the help of his estranged wife, Kayla Montgomery, who later testified against him. Adam was convicted of murder and several related offenses in 2024, but in 2026 the New Hampshire Supreme Court overturned his murder conviction on procedural grounds and ordered a new trial. His convictions for abuse of a corpse, evidence tampering, witness tampering, and other offenses remain in place, and prosecutors have announced they intend to retry the murder charge. Harmony's body has never been found, and her case has prompted widespread criticism of the child welfare system for failing to protect her despite repeated reports of abuse. Send us Fan Mail In 1984, 22-year-old engineer Laura Black began working at ESL Inc. in Sunnyvale, California, where coworker Richard Farley quickly became obsessed with her. Despite repeatedly rejecting his advances, Farley stalked Laura for nearly four years—bombarding her with hundreds of letters, gifts, phone calls, and unwanted visits. He even obtained her personal information through deception, followed her to social events, and vandalized her property. After losing his job and just one day before a restraining order against him was set to take effect, Farley returned to ESL on February 16, 1988, armed with multiple firearms. He killed seven people, wounded four others—including Laura—and held police at bay during a five-hour siege before surrendering. Send us Fan Mail Timothy Ray Jones Jr. was a South Carolina father who murdered his five children—Merah (8), Elias (7), Nahtahn (6), Gabriel (2), and Abigail (1)—in August 2014 in one of the most disturbing family homicide cases in recent U.S. history. Prosecutors said Jones killed the children at his home in Lexington County after becoming enraged and abusing them. He later admitted to killing all five children and transporting their bodies in his vehicle for several days before dumping them in a remote area of Alabama. Jones was arrested after a traffic stop in Mississippi raised suspicions. During his trial, the defense argued that he suffered from severe mental illness and drug-induced psychosis, while prosecutors maintained that he understood his actions and took deliberate steps to conceal the crimes. In 2019, a jury convicted him on five counts of murder and sentenced him to death. In 2023, the South Carolina Supreme Court upheld both his convictions and death sentence, rejecting his appeal. Jones remains on South Carolina's death row while additional appeals continue through the court system. The case is often cited as one of the most horrific child-murder cases in South Carolina history due to the number of victims, the ages of the children, and Jones's efforts to conceal the crimes. Suzane, along with her boyfriend Daniel Cravinhos and his brother Cristian, arranged the killings while her parents slept in their home. The brothers beat the couple to death with iron bars, and the crime was initially staged to look like a burglary. Episode 175: Banita Jacks: A Mother's Deadly Secret
Send us Fan Mail Banita Jacks is a Washington, D.C. resident who was convicted in 2009 for the murder of her four daughters: Brittany (17), Tatianna (11), N'Kiah (6), and Aja (5). The case gained national attention due to the tragic circumstances of the girls' deaths and the systemic failures of local social services. In January 2008, U.S. Marshals arrived at Jacks’ southeast D.C. rowhouse to serve an eviction notice. Inside, they discovered the decomposing bodies of the four children in upstairs bedrooms. Investigators estimated the girls had been dead for several months, potentially since the late summer of 2007, during which time Jacks continued to live in the home with the remains. Jacks waived her right to a jury trial, leaving the decision to D.C. Superior Court Judge Frederick H. Weisberg. In July 2009, she was convicted of four counts of felony murder, three counts of first-degree premeditated murder, and four counts of child cruelty. In December 2009, Banita Jacks was sentenced to 120 years in prison (30 years for each child). The case led to significant reforms in Washington, D.C.'s Child and Family Services Agency after it was revealed that multiple reports of neglect had not been properly investigated prior to the murders.
