Singer and songwriter Whitney Nichole started her teaching studio back in 2008. Over the past ten years, her studio has grown from a two-person operation to nineteen teachers, nearly four hundred students and for locations. As you can imagine a lot has been learned along the way. Whitney tells us her story, how she grew the business, helped her teachers get on board with the Songbird values, her process of finding the right teacher for the studio and what she loves about running a business this size. Ep.8 The natural entrepreneur with Gemma Sugrue
Gemma Sugrue is one of those natural entrepreneurs. She started her own wedding singer business at college and on finishing her degree joined forces with a friend to set up a singing teaching studio in Cork where they now have 300+ students, and are earning enough to employ a manager whilst she spends time on her own creativity as singer/songwriter. Gemma talks to Line Hilton about her journey from a naive 17 year old touring Australia with an Irish dance show, how she went about learning to sing in a contemporary vocal style, setting up her first business as a wedding singer, and the trials and tribulations of becoming a studio boss with 15 teachers. She also talks about how she has gone about finding a balance between her business and artist mindset. Ep.5 Losing my voice was a turning point with Mindy Pack
Mindy Pack hails from Salt Lake City, Utah. She began singing professionally from a young age, taking up teaching as it seemed the right thing to do. Like many of us took her voice for granted until the day it wasn't there. This event was a turning point for Mindy as it took her down an unexpected path. As a teacher, she was already exploring and building on her technique and teaching skills, but now she had to figure out how to get her voice back. As a result of this new journey, Mindy has become a go-to voice teacher for ENTs and Speech Pathologists to send their rehab patients to. Mindy works with pro singers from all genres and styles of music. Her clients have been seen on world tours, national Broadway tours, AMA’s, Grammy’s, Saturday Night Live, International Award shows, YouTube Sensations, College Scholarship Winners, Reality TV Shows, Cruise Lines, and local and national performances to name a few.
