The fact that Mia is sitting with me here today, as a confident, strong, well educated (and funny) woman is no mean feat, in fact, it’s a huge testament to her character and to the work she has done on healing herself.
Mia’s adolescence and young adult years were plagued by abuse. She was raped when she was just 16 and then when at her most vulnerable, she was preyed upon and groomed by an older man. This resulted in years of physical and emotional abuse, and ultimately a career in sex work.
On the surface, Mia was just like any other young woman, she was in college, studying art, discovering who she was, but behind closed doors, she was suffering appalling abuse.
She has written about some of these experiences in her memoir, “Any Girl”. Mia has since trained as a psychotherapist specialising in sexual trauma. But lately, she finds herself drawn back to the art world and on the cusp of a new chapter in her life.
It’s not easy to sit and talk to a stranger about these things, so I personally want to thank Mia for sharing this painful story with me. I know it’ll help a lot of people. x
