Lights Out, ep 1, Cat Wife with Boris Karloff (06-17-1936)
Welcome to the second installment of my “Sci-Fi X Horror" channel... this week is an episode of the program Lights Out. One of the first horror and supernatural radio programs, Lights Out which ran from January 1934 and ended summer 1947. Created by Wyllis Cooper, then taken over by Arch Obler in 1936. This episode is titled Cat Wife with the great horror legend, the original Frankenstein monster -- Boris Karloff. Cat Wife is about a husband's feline-like wife who goes too far. His wife returns home being loud and boisterous with her friends. Learning she only married him for his money, an angry husband, John, accuses Linda his wife of behaving like a heartless cat and they experience unexpected consequences… murder… and more… Some websites say Cat Wife is from 1936, others say 1938 — I’m going to stick to the former… This episode aired June 17, 1936. Dimension-X | The Outer Limit, 1950
This inaugural episode is from Dimension X which aired from 1950 to 1951. In radio Sci-Fi dramas Dimension X was preceded by 2000 Plus and followed by X-Minus One, which recreated a number of Dimension X scripts. Dimension X was directed by Fred Wiehe and Edward King, with Norman Rose as both announcer and narrator. Well, let’s get to it… this first drama named “The Outer Limit,” was written by Graham Doar (and adapted by Ernest Kinoy) -- it aired on April 8, 1950.
