Won't somebody think of the children?
A new voice on the pod this week. Chris in Belfast, Davie living his best life and Paddy Hoey laid low with the flu meant we asked Britain's number 32 tennis player, Keith Murray, to join us tonight. We discussed Saturday's game, what appears to be shaping up to be another transfer-window shitshow, and briefly previewed the next two games. The conversation then turned to the next generation of Celtic fans and Keith shared his experience and frustration as a father of two young boys whose chances of getting "the bug" are severely restricted. I think a lot of fans will sympathise, and we pose the question is anyone at board level aware of the issue? The Penance Episode (Take 2)
After the LASK shambles, your host and Paul are in their usual seats to discuss the game. Chris decided to lock himself in a bothy in the Hebrides, so we had to bring in The Fenian Red Adair, Davie Farrell, to cast his trained eye over the shi*show that was the defeat in Austria. Worryingly, the trained eye reveals that it was even worse than you thought, so as you can imagine, this is not an upbeat episode, and there is very little in the way of positivity. We are currently in negotiations to make this episode available as a potential penance for Saturday confessions at West of Scotland chapels. The Trackie of my tears...
It started with a message in the WhatsApp group: "There's been a purchase from JD Sports, but who for Kammy?" It ended with some spectacular grassing and an unconvincing attempt at an explanation, and that's before we got onto the events of the last week. There's a review of the game at the weekend, a look forward to the CL qualifiers, plus a discussion on transfer business. There is some positivity in that we're somewhat prepared but we should be in a better position. That said, we are confident we will get past LASK. We got a bit of a scouting report on Hassan from Sid Lowe that we can't broadcast, but it's generally positive. The RGC is an old "friend" who narrowly edges out another outstanding candidate. Cautious optimism is it? Ah''ll give ye cautious optimism
As you can imagine, there is something of a change in mood compared to last week's pod. It's a broadly upbeat recording with a soupcon of giddiness. Oddly enough, a convincing 90-minute performance, giving Neil McCann a bad day at the office, plus the potential emergence of a new hero will do that to men of a certain age. Obviously, events in Govan on Sunday are discussed and enjoyed, and we take some pleasure from the undoubted discomfort that Derek McKlopp felt at full time. Of course, it wouldn't be an RGC pod if there wasn't a degree of moaning, and that is largely centred around potential transfer activity both inwards and outwards. There's some concern about who might go and concern about what is likely to come in. Still, it was a great weekend, so let's enjoy it. If nothing changes...
It stays the same. Our man in the east was unavailable, so it was only right that we arranged for The Fenian Red Adair (© T Grieg) AKA Davie Farrell, to step in. We review Monday night's game, and it's not particularly uplifting. Davie casts doubt over our defensive strategy at set pieces in particular, plus he is very concerned about physical and match fitness. Our attention then turns to the transfer window and our strategy (no laughing at the back), or more accurately, lack of strategy. It's not an upbeat episode, so you have been warned. He's a DELuded follower of fashion
We're back for season 26/27, and we're as positive and upbeat as ever... Actually, there is a bit of truth in that statement, as we're not as grumpy in this episode as you'd expect. Only because we are still clinging on to a slim hope that it might all turn out right in the end. We discuss summer musical highlights so far. Discuss our transfer activity so far (No laughing at the back, please) and what might transpire in the coming weeks. We discuss our realistic expectations for the season ahead, which leads us nicely into a discussion about NAP. This was prompted by a listener email, incidentally. A bit of a one-off episode this. We asked (Dr) Paddy Hoey onto the pod to talk about a book about football, This Is Our Game. It's a collection of writing from fans in the great football cities around the world, and Paddy wrote the chapter on Glasgow. It's the RGC Summertime Special
The plan was to hold off on recording an episode until the full managerial team was confirmed. However, nothing involving the Celtic board is ever straightforward or professional, so we decided we could at least have a chat about Martin getting the job. Obviously, there's a bit more enthusiasm from some of the pod team than from others, but essentially, among the available options, we accept that he's the preferred choice. The transfer window is another cause for concern and we touch on that too. Obviously, we are not the only team in Glasgow that has a managerial issue and our man in the east has done some research on the Govan appointment. Our man in the west has also done some impressive research into his CV so he can make some cheap gags at the PTC's expense. To sign off we have a Summer RGC which gives Paul & Chris another opportunity to go in two-footed on one of their favourites. *Opens envelope* And the RGC Podcast PTCOTY is...
The host returned from his holiday, meaning we could finally record the end-of-season pod. Paul and Chris talk us through their day at the cup final sponsored by Baby Guinness, it would appear. We then review the current squad and play a very sh*t version of Shag Marry Avoid. "Staying, Going, and Should Be Going" doesn't quite have the same ring to it. The outcome is that a major overhaul is on the cards, which leads us nicely into a discussion about who will carry it out. Media reports at the time of recording suggest the two main candidates for the job are Martin O'Neill and Robbie Keane. It's fair to say that there's more enthusiasm for one candidate than the other. Don't get carried away, "enthusiasm" is very much a relative term. We end the podcast with the announcement from the calm and collected Paul about who gets the honour of being our RGC of the Year. We should be back when there's news about the "new" manager, but in the meantime, we thank each and every one of you who have downloaded and enjoyed the pod this season. Just another league title
As the pod heid bummer, Paul was up that Italy over the weekend he takes the host's chair for this week's episode. Obviously, there's a huge amount of joy about Saturday, and it appears that the utter headloss from everyone about the Motherwell game increased the desire to win on Saturday. We discuss the game and the post-match scenes like the grumpy old men we are. Of course, we talk about the final on Saturday and the prospect of a domestic double. There won't be a pod next week, so we'll be back in a couple of weeks for a season review and preview of next season. What should be another incredibly giddy recording is somewhat derailed as we react to people absolutely losing their sh*t over what was a handball. The level of outrage has taken us all by surprise. Schrödinger's Celtic
That was the weekend that was... Our men in the East and West were both at Easter Road on Sunday and we get their views on a game that wasn't short of incidents. A game that we should have won, easing up, ended up in a nervy last ten. It's as if Celtic have forgotten they are based in the heart disease capital of Europe. We look forward to the Derby on Sunday and have a right good laugh at events at Tynecastle on Monday evening. There are a few tennis puns and some chat about the POTY awards too. In the week that ST renewals came out, we had a chat about the Collective's suggestion that fans wait until the last day before renewing. That leads into a discussion about the potential relocation of The Bhoys. Spoiler alert- We think the club have made a rip-roaring c**t of it. As you can imagine, there is cheeriness by the bucketload in this week's episode. We came within a bawhair of the perfect footballing weekend. An unconvincing convincing 3-1 win for Celtic, a hilarious win for Well and were it not for Hibs doing what Hibs do, we could have been in the box seat for the run-in. A bawhair from disaster...
You’d think a six-two victory in a semi-final against Premiership opposition would be a cue for an upbeat and giddy podcast. Well, no, it wasn’t. Podcast big boss and head honcho Paul is in Spain, leaving his two underlings to hold the fort. Davie Farrell steps in and, unusually, he gets to talk about a game we actually won. However, it has to be said, he isn’t entirely positive about Sunday’s performance. Without it being a spoiler, Davie has a fairly revolutionary idea that we should start the game with our best players on the park. Two good guys and a w*nk...
There was a full turn out of the podcast team at Saturday's game, so Chris has taken over hosting for this week's episode. We look back at Saturday's game and the post-game sesh before looking forward to Sunday's semi. Despite the win the mood in the camp isn't particularly cheery. We take the opportunity to look at each department of the team and in truth there's not a lot of positivity in that regard either. We hold our own POTY award and goal of the season and it's slim pickings and no mistake. There's a quick discussion about the Haughey Monorail proposal, and it's clear that for the two ST holders on the pod, some further details will be required before they are likely to get involved. A sneaky attempt to ambush the host when we get to the RGC nomination is thwarted by the host throwing himself under the bus. Finally, a win in Dundee means there's a bit of a change in the mood from the last pod after a game up there. We go over the events of a welcome win at Dens, look forward to Saturday's game, and discuss the potential post-split fixtures, too. Our man Paul chaired the most recent Collective meeting, so he gives a little update from Thursday's meeting. Martin's suggestion that he would be open to a longer stay gives us a reason to discuss his staying on for another year. It's fair to say there's not a lot of enthusiasm at that prospect. Paul and Chris go two-footed on the "media hoor" host who has been hawking his half-arsed opinions on various media outlets this week. It won't surprise you to hear that the mood of this episode is somewhat different from the last two weeks. Grifting The Night Away...
There's plenty of cheeriness to go round this week. A good result and a half-decent performance against the best-coached team in the league keeps everyone in a good mood. The mood is so good that Chris graciously allows Paul to take the second half of Saturday's game, meaning he didn't get the poisoned chalice for once. There's a chuckle about the game in Kilmarnock on Saturday night, even though it did have a whiff of Sophie's Choice about it, thanks to the respective managers of the teams involved. We have a chat about this weekend's fixtures, and there's some (muted) praise for the pod's favourite ex-Celt Steven Pressley. Incredible #scenes.
