An addition to last weeks show on Food Medicine: The Food: The seed meaning comes from an old Germanic word (hnutu) used for thousands of years to describe hard-shelled fruits. The Head: Around the late 1800s, people joked that a person’s head looked round and hard like a walnut or hazelnut. The Behavior: Phrases like “off your nut” meant your head or brain was loose, broken, or empty, which eventually led to calling an eccentric or unstable person a “nut.” Food Common Types of Nuts and Their Nutrition (per 1-ounce / 28-gram serving) Almonds: Contain 170 calories, 15g fat, 6g protein, and 3g fiber.
