A Conversation with Matt Adams
Subscribe This week, Matt Adams, the newly appointed Head of School at Circle Christian School, talks with me about his life, his mentors, his family and his vision for the school. Critical Race Theory-Part 2
Subscribe After over six months of weekly episodes, we are diving into the deep end today to talk about Critical Race Theory. We discuss an overview of its underlying philosophy, its assumptions, and its aspirations. We explain the philosophy of Karl Marx and his view of the oppressed versus the oppressor. We look at socialism and communism in the context of CRT, and we contrast this ideology with biblical Christianity. In this second episode on CRT, I discuss BLM and their agenda. I address whether Christians should support this organization and if we should support CRT ideology. We cover some challenging truth in this episode of Relentless Truth. Black Lives Matter and Their Agenda The underlying challenge in many discussions of this topic is the definition of terms and the underlying assumptions. The CR Theorist believes that the oppressor is incapable of important clearly seeing the institutional oppression in the world. We refute this claim in this episode. Equity, Equality, and Hegemony We define terms like “intersectionality,” “equity,” “equality,” and “hegemony.” We explain that the assumption that we are in a post-truth world underlies Critical Race Theory. This big idea is important to understand as we attempt to carve out the appropriate response to those who embrace this heretical view. Finally, we explain some of the nuance of racial biases. We discuss loving our neighbor in a complex world, and we are also candid about the threats to family that are inherent in CRT and Marxist ideology. My Rant About Politics and Crypto
Subscribe My students have suggested for years that I am most effective in class when I “let it rip.” I’m not sure what letting it rip looks like on a podcast, but I push the limits of my comfort in this episode by discussing politics and the polarization of our great nation candidly. I tell the truth about the political parties, Congress, and the Executive Branch, and I describe the fundraising and re-election mindset that prompts our leaders to bankrupt future generations in their effort to maintain robust economic indicators today. I explain that this isn’t “the Biden economy,” and last year wasn’t “the Trump economy.” Wall Street and Washington I also discuss the link between Wall Street and Washington in this episode. The circle is a tight one and it impacts our nation significantly. These seemingly incestuous relationships happen somewhat naturally, I think, but they alarm me, nonetheless. I’m a fan of the watchdog organizations that hold government accountable at all levels. Crypto Currency Finally, I discuss crypto currency in this episode. Although some of my friends and students are advocates for investing in crypto, I struggle to embrace investing in this “currency” because values appear to me to be arbitrarily assigned. Further, these values won’t hold up without a “greater fool” coming along who agrees to pay more for a currency that doesn’t really have objective value the way equities do. Value Proposition and Repentance
Subscribe Biblical Instruction for Living Effective Lives In this week’s episode, I discuss Psalm 51 and the biblical instructions for living effective lives. David’s prayer of repentance gives us insights into the importance of knowing God and his character, knowing how to deal with our sin, and then knowing how to be used by God to teach others. Psalm 51 I discuss Romans 12 and Paul’s instructions for us there as compared to David’s prayer in Psalm 51. Our desire to live an effective life is only possible when we experience the metamorphosis and complete renovation that Paul describes in Romans 12:1 and 2. Interestingly, Psalm 51 captures David experiencing this very transformative and renovating of his heart. This episode of Relentless Truth will remind us all to focus on the object of our faith.
