Sarah's Story-Founder of Agape City Outreach

You will love listening to Sarah share her story of God's relentless pursuit of her heart and the journey that led her to the loving and safe arms of Jesus- a true redemption story. Sarah was rescued out of pain, partying, panic attacks and all the ways she sought to silence and stuff down shame and brokeness- and fully surrendered her heart to follow Jesus. Sarah could never have imagined the beauty, the joy, the purpose and provision in all God was inviting her into. At only 26, Sarah Reed founded Agape City Outreach, a Christian nonprofit serving underserved and at-risk youth and families in Logan Heights, San Diego. Sarah's passion for ministry grew through years of working with students and witnessing firsthand the challenges many families face. This year, she stepped out in faith to launch Agape City Outreach, which now provides after-school mentorship, weekly grocery assistance, and practical support to families in the community. Guided by the eternal values of faith, hope, and love, Sarah's heart is to see people move from simply surviving to thriving as God intended. Carried Through the Dark- God's Faithfulness In the Unthinkable

The most profound miracle I've witnessed, both in my life and the lives of those who have endured great loss, is the gift of hope. This year, June 3rd, will be 11 years since my son transitioned to Heaven. On this podcast I share my early journal entries; the raw beginnings -including the terror, the shock, brokeness, the time and strength grief demands, my nervous system, the not hearing God's voice, to finally hearing His voice..... the direction I received from the Holy Spirit on how to live and care for myself.... to finding hope. As a grief coach, I have witnessed the unmistakeable presence of God in the midst of unimaginable loss. Time and again, as I sit with those who are walking through profound loss, I see His nearness- His mercy, His patience, His unfailing love. I have watched Him pour supernatural strength into broken hearts, sustaining them moment by moment. What I witness can only be described as miracles- God Himself intervening when all hope seems lost. God is near to the broken hearted and saves those who are crushed in Spirit. Psalms 34:18 If you or a loved on is grieving, I pray this testimony will be an encouragement. Or if you know someone who is grieving and you want to better understand, I hope this will help. Marked By An Encounter - Forever Changed

I have recently felt it was important to share my testimony, in hopes to encourage someone out there- especially the youth and those younger than me (I am soon to be 62), to know that God is real and wants to meet us powerfully- right where we are at. I was raised in an abusive alcoholic home as well as a crazy cult. When I was young, I was tormented by anxiety and confusion and needed help. I was desperate to know if God was real. I sought Him, He answered and He rescued me. God relentlessly pursues people. He loves us. He likes us and desires that all would know Him. I know without any doubt that He is faithful and His word is true- He is our redeemer and takes what is painful, difficult, ugly and wrong and makes it beautiful. If you or someone you know is feeling uncertain about Him, about His love, who you are or whose you are, I hope you will listen and become encouraged to trust God with your life. He has a beautiful plan marked out for you. He is peace. He offers rest. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. John 1:5 And you will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all of your heart. Simon Bwayo-From the Fields of Africa to American Soil

My guest is my dear and life long friend, Simon Bwayo! In 2007, God blessed me and my family with meeting the Bwayo family of fourteen. They had just arrived from a refugee camp in Kenya and were living a few doors down from our building on 38th street. Bridge of Hope is celebrating our 20 year anniversary and Simon and his family were a huge part of what God was planning for Bridge of Hope. As well as His planting us in City Heights, San Diego, which is one of the largest refugee resettlement areas in the country. I had never met a refugee before meeting the Bwayo family. I will always remember the first time I talked with Simon under the big tree in front of what became Bridge of Hope. It was if the whole world stood still, and the earth was shaking under my feet- I knew in that moment, with complete clarity; a kairos moment.... Bridge of Hope was there to support and care for the refugees. At that time, many, many families, from all over the world, were coming to City Heights every week. God saw the needs and the radical adjustment people were making coming here- the trauma, suffering and the loss they had endured. Our Father God invited us to join Him in welcoming them to America. In turn, my heart was moved in a most profound way; forever changed. My new friends were now my family and teachers. Their faith rocked me! Their wisdom, their culture, love, and their joy.... it was all so beautiful and exciting. Their friendship and acceptance of me is such a powerful gift and blessing in my life. Simon and his family left San Diego in 2012, and moved to Iowa, which is where they live today. Simon shares his journey and the great blessing of now having land ( Over an acre) to grow their own fruits and vegetables, which is the food they missed since living in America, not to mention, is very expensive to buy in the grocery stores. Now they not only have land, but a business! It is called East Africa Grown Flavor! Truly a remarkable story of resilience and faith! I would love to hear your thoughts! sheribriggs.com

Melanie and Bruce- Powerful Sibling Bond and a Fight of Faith that Leads to Freedom

"I was reaching for my meth pipe, when God was reaching for me." This is an amazing story of God's relentless pursuit of Melanie and a brother's love and tireless pursuit to see his sister set free. Melanie shares what happened in her early childhood, coupled with a painful divorce, which lead to her addiction to Crystal Meth and becoming homeless on the streets of San Diego for ten brutal and very dark years. Melanie shares about the realities of being on the streets- bound by shame, guilt and abuse that drove her deeper into darkness, leaving her feeling completely unworthy of love. Her brother Bruce shares about the tension between hope and hopelessness during the time his sister was bound in her addiction, while remaining anchored by the constant reassurance of God's love for his sister. That love not only carried her while she was living outside, but gave him and their family the courage to persevere and believe for Melanie's return. In this podcast you will hear their story of God's great love and faithfulness to pull Melanie out of the mire, placing her on the rock of His love. You will also hear about Bruce's fearlessness and fight for his sister's freedom and the tender love Melanie and Bruce have for each other. They also share important insight that will help us understand what those who are struggling in addiction and living outside are facing and feeling everyday. Melanie and Bruce hope their story can help others find the courage to make life changing decisions and for family members to stay in the fight. They are also in the beginning stages of starting a non-profit to create sober living spaces for individuals transitioning out of recovery programs. A Prayer To Start the Year- A Prayer of Recollection

I have taken a beautiful prayer that Karin Esselstrom read over us in my latest podcast- Karin's Journey, and put it here for you to listen to. Karin's Journey; A Valley of Trouble, Becomes A Door Of Hope, Where Many Find Refuge

Join me in a transparent, rich and informative conversation with Karin Esselstrom- Karin has been a missionary, living in communities experiencing poverty for nearly 38 years. She is a master training facilitator with Trauma Healing Institute, holds certifications in Life and Mental Health Coaching with AACC, and a certified coach with the Clear Thinking Method through Clear Thinking Solutions. Karin shares her own journey, that began at a time of crisis and developed into a deep intimacy with God. Karin cried out to God in a time of deep loneliness, and He spoke to her from the book of Hosea. This is where her journey of truly knowing God's love began; God being a Father who isn't waiting for her to mess up-but a Father of love, grace, mercy and healing. Over the years, this and many other revelations about heart wounds and the healing process, has led her to help others and equip and train others how to hold space and become a place of rest for those who are struggling with the effects of trauma and grief and for those who are hurting. Karin will teach us and walk us through a Clear Thinking exercise that is incredibly helpful when dealing with tension and triggers. She also leads us in a powerful prayer, that has been hugely instrumental in Karin's life. Mental Health- A Real And Raw Conversation With Matt Kirk Part 2

My conversation with Matt was so insightful, I knew we needed to do another one! On this podcast, Matt shares from his own faith and experience, on the topic of mental health. Matt has become very passionate about the topic of mental health because of his own journey dealing with anxiety and depression. He addresses the question that he is frequently asked, "Do you believe mental health issues are spiritual or do you think there is purely a psychological explanation for it all?" His answer is yes. He believes it is both. Matt shares that If something we are battling does not come from the character of God, it is not from Him. The Word of God says, 'God did not give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind.' Yet, God allows us to go through difficulty in order that our faith will be tested, strengthened, and refined for a greater purpose that will bless us and and those around us. Matt and I also talk about our times of grief and suffering in this life, and the ways we have grown to know the nearness and love of the Father in a most beautiful and profound way, because of our struggles and seasons of suffering. We also discuss simple God given ways to help calm our nervous systems when needed, while clinging to Jesus throughout the storms of life. Matt is a pastor. He and his wife Maddie and their children live in Bali. (This recording may sound a little rough in spots.) A Real and Raw Conversation with Church Planter Matt Kirk

Matt and his wife Maddy and their two children, moved to Bali in 2019 and planted a church there in 2022. Matt shares about their journey through addiction- hitting a breaking point, which lead to a desperate cry to God for help. Matt shares about how God showed up in a powerful way; bringing healing, freedom and a direction which changed the trajectory of their lives. In this podcast, Matt talks about the personal struggles he has faced battling anxiety and depression. He has learned that revelation and understanding comes through trusting God in and through difficult and challenging seasons. "How can we be dependent on God, when we don't know our true need for Him? How can we receive His strength if we don't come to a place of complete weakness? There are so many treasures the Lord wants to give to us, and some of those only come through suffering." Matt also shares encouragement and wisdom about responding to the unique call of God on our lives, and taking steps of faith to where He is leading; areas that feel impossible in the natural. "If you feel it is impossible, that is good! You are now in the miracle zone. Now you are partnering with Him! He will make a way!" With Paul we rejoice in our weaknesses, for when we are weak we are strong. Under great pressure we learn to rely on God, who raises the dead. So as sons and daughters, we are prepared to embrace pain as well as power.- Roland Baker You can reach Matt at: https://kirk-family.epistle.org Kirk.matthewcc@gmail.com Facebook- Matt Kirk I would love to hear your thoughts! sheribriggs.com

Beauty In Tragedy- A Story of God's Promises Fulfilled in the Darkest Hours Part 2

Today I am continuing the conversation with my guest Jada Tjoelker. Jada talks about living in the dichotomy of experiencing both -the answer to her and her husband's prayers; their son Triston meeting Jesus in a powerful way before leaving earth, and living with the grief and sorrow of losing their son. In this podcast, Jada and I talk about what life is like now, knowing our children are in Heaven and the peace that that brings, and carrying the deep longing to have our children here and our families all together in one place. For those who have lost a loved one, life now is about learning to carry both grief and hope, sadness and peace- it is not one or the other but learning to hold all of it everyday. Jada and I also discuss finding (after some time), even a greater faith and intimacy with Jesus after tragic loss- which is clearly miraculous! We both testify that Jesus truly is near to the broken hearted and saves those crushed in spirit. His grace and nearness is tangible in ways we had never experienced before the deepest valley of pain. "I believe God will show me through this soul grief, how much He really loves me. How much He loves my children. It is a beautiful pain, a contrast of feelings and a contrast of good and evil; the goodness of God, the evil of death. But Jesus conquered the grave.... Jesus conquered death. If God is for us, who can be against us?" ~Jada Tjoelker If you didn't get to hear the part 1 of Beauty in Tragedy, please do. Jada shares about her son Triston's battle with cancer, faith, persevering prayer, and Triston's radical and transforming encounter with Jesus.
