Midnight Mass Episode 4 Review | Real Horrorshow Podcast What happens when a miracle begins to look more like a curse? In this week’s minishow, Real Horrorshow Podcast dives into Episode 4 of Midnight Mass, where Doctor Sarah Gunning discovers that Erin’s fetus has vanished without explanation—and that there is no evidence she was ever pregnant. As Erin travels to the mainland for a second opinion, Paul’s resurrection takes a horrifying turn. After discovering that sunlight burns him, Bev realizes that Paul is actually Monsignor Pruitt, returned in a younger body. Dani and Jamie leave for America to build a life together, but nine years later Viola’s presence begins to surface. December was a rough month off-mic, fighting illness and holiday chaos, but we’re back now to finally ask: What if the found footage was real…and the scariest thing wasn’t the monster, but the filmmaker? This week, we’re digging into Butterfly Kisses (2018), Erik Kristopher Myers’ razor-sharp found footage deconstruction that asks a deeply uncomfortable question: how far will an artist go to be believed? The film follows Gavin York, a documentarian who stumbles upon a box of tapes left behind by two film students investigating an urban legend known as Peeping Tom. What starts as a forgotten student project quickly spirals into obsession, as Gavin sets out to “prove” the footage is authentic—dragging his own film crew (and his sanity) down with him. Part found footage, part academic critique, Butterfly Kisses plays in the same sandbox as The Blair Witch Project, Paranormal Activity, and The Last Exorcism, then calmly turns to the camera and asks whether we actually want these stories to be true. Instead of reuniting, he uses her body to walk into the lake, drowning her and binding her to Bly as a ghost. Heartbroken and furious, Rebecca refuses to join his plan to possess the children—Miles and Flora,but Peter continues manipulating events to get what he wants. In the present day, Peter and Rebecca lure Dani to the attic as their scheme reaches its breaking point. The children appear to surrender their bodies to the ghosts, and when Hannah intervenes, Peter (speaking through Miles) forces her to confront her own death. But Flora reveals the truth: she and Rebecca have been pretending, and Rebecca has not taken her over. As Dani attempts a desperate escape with Flora, they are suddenly confronted by Bly Manor’s most fearsome spirit—the Lady in the Lake. Real Minishow Ep. 83 - Still Adjusting
This week on The Real Minishow, Sam and Stormy are adjusting to their new normals—Sam has a job she loves, and Stormy is finally free from nightly homework. Meanwhile, in Episode Four of The Haunting of Bly Manor: In a series of flashbacks, we learn that Dani was once engaged to her childhood friend, Edmund. During a tense dinner, Edmund realizes Dani doesn’t want to marry him. As he storms out of the car in anger, he’s tragically hit and killed by a truck. A traumatized Dani sees Edmund’s ghost for the first time at the hospital. Without telling anyone, she plans to leave the country. Before she departs, Edmund’s mother gives her his glasses. Back at Bly Manor, Dani joins the staff around a bonfire following Owen’s mother’s funeral. Jamie introduces a tradition called “throwing bones into the fire” in remembrance of the dead, but Dani chooses not to participate. Sparks begin to fly between Dani and Jamie. That night, Dani wakes up drunk and disoriented. Meanwhile, Flora notices a faceless doll in her dollhouse and, with Miles, prevents Dani from seeing a mysterious white-clad spirit wandering the manor. After putting the children to bed, Dani finally burns Edmund’s glasses. They also pick their next review: the new Fear Street movie on Netflix.
